Untwinked Barb

I've played barbs before (frenzy and ww) and I was always frustrated at how equipment dependant they are.

What would be a good build for the new ladder season that doesn't rely on godly equip, that can be done untwinked?

A singer/conc & zerk barb could be good

Max BO, Shout Conc and Zerk... could be interesting you'd be deadly in hell with a group... solo you'd have problems with mobs in hell but norm/nm wouldn't be a big problem. All you'd really need is a good maul and high def eq with plenty of res. A little leech goes a long way :p mana leech wouldn't be as important with Conc only costing 2 mana no matter the lvl.

I'm thinking of making a Zerker for the new ladder, but I'm looking for an arsenal of cheap weapons to use while I level, ie so I know what to look for, this would include decent low level runewords.

I just started nightmare on hardcore with an untweaked barb. I used Rixot's keen (unique short sword) through most of normal, and then upgraded it and I'm using it in nightmare now. Obviously the damage is quite low, but it's a nice quick sword, the bonus to attack rateing is nice, and the crushing blow is pretty much the only reason it's still serving me well. :)

All barb builds are gear dependant. I started ther current ladder with a ww barb and it did preety well; i also found some nice sorc/caster gear along the way wich was high priced in tradings due to high numbers of sorcereses and so i could equip and make him effective.

Barbs are hard to play untwinked. Not too hard, though. Be the man behind the scenes until Hell, where you can spend a few horus shopping a cruel, then step up and put the hurt on some stuff.
