A botter is someone who uses a bot, a 3d party program which runs a script, so that the player (if you could still call him like that) doesn't even have to sit behind his computer screen to play. The most currently known ones are the MF bots. Botters run a script to have a character run Pindleskin, Mephisto or Andariel a whole night while they are asleep, or at work.

They screw up the economy, they provide huge lag - because of the amount of games they create in short periods of time - and it is a cheesy style of playing.

Someone who uses a bot.

j/k =P

To my knowledge (which is small indeed) a botter is someone who uses an outside program that basically plays diablo for them. For example, Andy bot uses a sorc to tele to nm Andarial and kill her. Then the bot picks up any unique ring that drops. Rinse, repeat and collect sojs as necessary.
Basically the bot just keeps making new games and doing this over and over again while you're elsewhere sleeping, making dinner, picnicing on the Rio Grande or something like that.

So the official rule is "We hate all botters" with the #1 reason being: The ruin the game economy.

Have you ever been in a public game, and seen someone enter, then spam the same message for selling/buying d2 items at some website over and over and over and then leave ?

Thats one example of a bot.

Others run bots or magic find runs all day, like andybot and the like.

Edit : fixed the word bot above, I said "boos" :)

That was a good one!

on another note, when Usufruct or myself referred to the banable actions of someone in another thread, he was saying :
"Banny Potter, Banworts Express, Banworts school of Bancraft and Bannery"

And I continuing it said : "the Village of Bansmeade, And Bannerin house of Banworts"
