The 'A-Team' for season 2

Does anyone remember the old TV show, THE A-TEAM? It was awesome for many reasons, but the one that has stuck with me is this:
A group of men vastly different, together to work for a single purpose. They all had different strenghts, yet they worked together by balancing their strengths and weaknesses off each other to be one unbeatable force.

Ok so I've been tossing this idea around, I briefly let out the idea in a different post. But I'm curious to find out who here would be interested in building a team to take on the new ladder?

These are my thoughts:
1. Each character strong enough to play untwinked himself / herself.
2. Each character having strong 'team' skills that would further enhance the play of each of the other characters.
3. The characters only leveling with each other, no play outside of the team play to ensure similar levels.
4. This would be for USEast SC Ladder (season 2) whenever it begins.

So who, if anyone, would be interested in something like this? It's just an idea for now, but one that I think would / could be very fun.

I like the idea immensely. I feel I meet the criteria, but as I have said before, I'm rarely on; only on weekends, and even then only 3 hours of play, if I'm lucky. Great idea though.

Ok so, this wouldn't be a nightly thing. I mean I know that everyone here has friends they have to play with and such, and we all have demanding schedules too.

I'm talking like a real life 'team'. Say...

Tuesday 8:00pm cst
Thursday 8:00pm cst

Then leave an open slot, where we can post on the forum and say 'In game xxx looking for more teamates'.

Make a rule where 4 players must be there to actually go out and advance.

its just an idea for now MM, but there would be specific builds requirements.

As in the following (just an idea at this point):
1. Necromancer - Might Merc (of course)

Max Mastery
Max Warrior
10'ish CE
all curses, 5+ into dim vision

2. Sorceress - Prayer Merc

Either meteor or blizzard

3. Druid - Defiance Merc

Wind Druid

4. Paladin - Blessed aim Merc

Max Zeal / Fanatacism

5. Assassin - Holy Freeze Merc (stays intown until the skel's are up)

Phoenix Striker

6. Amazon - Barb Merc

EITHER
pj / lf javazon
or
fully synergized lf / cs javazon

7. Barbarian - Barb Merc (might taken already)

ww / bo / shout

The 8th slot could be open, or unused. Either way, I think something like this would be extremely fun. None of the builds are dependant on great gear. We could share item drops based on necessity (the barb wouldn't keep an occy) in the games we play together.

With all the mercs, aura's, etc...I think this build would waste the entire game easily!

those guidelines dont have to be followed to the tee, but those are builds I think fit into the theme of strong solo, and great team players.

gimme some input as to what you think would work as sub-builds.

Depending on the final build ideas, I just might have to call it quits in this stage. Since I do not like the Paladin or the Amazon I have never played anyone of those. As all of us, I’m good with the Necro. But I have not yet played the more cookie cutter builds of the other classes.

Rogue builds are interesting. They are the reason I haven't played the cookie cutter builds.

Ranged Meleemancer will make it easier to incorporate CE.

My preferred builds would be an Enchantress or a Meleemancer with either an IG (these can actually be effective) or a Clay, depending on Artic's choice.

Again I assume that it will be common courtesy to refrain from using such items as Demonlimb.

i'd think jav to be the best since the real damaging skills aren't dependant on weapon dmg. that way you can throw anything, and still get impressive dmg. whereas with bow skills, you need a nice bow.

2 necros would be great...I can handle curses, CE, and get a clay golem for slow. A summoner could have skellies and maybe an attack skill like poison or bone? Curses wont be needed so a hybrid poison/summon or bone/summon could prolly work.

Hammerdin = one of my best non forum friends. He has given me sooo much and I see him now as a hammerdin cause that char is his baby on ladder. I played one once, it was ok, but too slow for me at low lvls.

Trapper = I don't know her yet, just that it really is a her and her name. She likes trappers, so meh.

Zealot = An older, but cool guy. Very passive, but loves his pally. He is on the east ladder right now I think... lil_brotha is the pally at lvl95.

If you want to be a melee druid that is non item dependent I would suggest a fireclaws bear/wolf. Bear is better IMO from shockwave and the ability to get a faster attack with 110 IAS phaseblade, but both are viable. They do around 4.5k damage with only 20 in Fireclaws and 4 maxed synnergies. If you want oak sage, then just drop one of the fireclaws synnergies. I tried one and liked it, but like spellcasting classes better.

Other option is wind druid with maxed Oak sage. They're pretty fun too. Hope this helps.

Fire Claws druids are BAD choice for PvM. Fire immunes abound. I have had one. Tempted to do Fury//Rabies.

One character to consider for the 8-slot would be an Avenger. On their own, they are not very effective, but considering they more than double the elemental damage output of the party, I think they're a worth-while addition. Just my $0.02.

Depending on the amount of time Patsy plays, he could be an extra member. It will probably be pretty uncommon for all of us to be online at the same time. When it happens we can decide who gets booted temporarily. Probably the highest level char.

My main thing is to have fun and to level up as much as I can...would really stink to only use my druid in this group only...and have to start a new character to use away from the group.

I agree with the clear each area...and also the wp's.

But...with something like this group going on...It's going to be a little tough for some because they won't be on as often as someone like...me,slipin,and nc(didn't mention the kbob because he's in his own personal group...though he's on alot also).

From what I read in this thread...that kbob is off doing his own little group thing...though it would be nice to have kbob in the mix...it will be kinda difficult(I would think) to have him split his loyalities to his invite-only group and us. And I woould sugggest having him as a sub(only cuz of his group) and bump Patsy or Slipin to a slot.

Hopefully...Patsy will bring his Mother build into this and have Slipin be his WindyThePooh.

Some of the rules should include:

Can't leave a difficulty without a majority of the group...and help the others catch up that are not with the first group(which I never mind doing anyway)

No pubby games period(defeats the group plan)

As for items found during game play...they go to the class that is in need of it before they can be sold( learned that one with NecromancerLord in 1.09 when I did the group thing with him and a few others)

Must get all the wp's before moving on to next act(another NecromancerLord 1)which is how I play to this day anyway.

An how many people should be in a party when it's time to move on to the next act? Since I see Slipin and NecroChild313 on all the time

We are with ten people IIRC. So it would be nice to the other party members if you go the next act when six of the party members, yourself included, are able to advance to the next act. They don’t have to be ingame. Just able to go the next act.

So 6 pm your time would be 1 am over here. That time is feasible in the weekends for sure and on some week days. It depends on my roster.

A group of men vastly different, together to work for a single purpose. They all had different strenghts, yet they worked together by balancing their strengths and weaknesses off each other to be one unbeatable force.

Seeing as how we are all busy men (don't contradict me! :rant: ), it will be very hard to get a time when everybody can be online. It is best to set-up a general time-frame in which the chance the see another person from the group is the highest. Kind of like an orbital.

That is what I remembered from the Legendary Necros. It seems best to just give a time-frame and make sure that the levels of the chars do not spread out too much.

If that's so...can't ask him to split his loyalities between both groups...wouldn't really be fair for kbob to be placed in that situation. That's why I suggested to have him as a sub...so that when he does have time he can join us(no matter how often it may be)

Even g has said that he was willing to share his spot with Patsy...due to the amount of time that he has.

Give me a group of 6-7 other people besides me...that want to have fun bs'n while doing this...and can show up(at whatever time they can) each day and just do this.

It is also nice to have extra people in case some others are not on at the same time as others...because having a full game is always nice to have.

My goals for this is thing are not too difficult...clear out each area(like MM suggested)...get all the wp's in each act before moving on...and no pubby games with your "group character"(kinda defeats the group concept) until hell baal is beaten.

It would kinda suck to have a level 50+ in norm helping others that are 20+ or so...so that's another reason why no pubby games for this.

Otherwise, alot of us will be higher than the rest of the group...for those that have alot of time to do that...like myself and Slipin compared to G and anyone else that don't have alot of time.

I have not been in a clan since 1.04...and won't start now.

If you want to call this group(or any other if this one fails for some reason) a clan then so be it. I look at this as a chance to hang with some of the others that have been on the boards for as long as I have been...to to have fun(and possibably learn something) from people that know their stuff.

It makes me wish I was a noob in a way...just to be able to hear and see first hand what each other "long-timer"S has to say and offer about the builds they like.

Sorta like the "biker build off" show...where you get the top 10 builders and they go head to head...with it ending up as all 10 working on 1 bike(and dealing with 10 ego's) and at the end of it all...pick 1 of the 10's bike as best overall.

That kinda thing...only without the ego trip.

NC and Slipin are on before me most of the time...so since it seems that most of us have a 10:00am start time it seems....just make it that then and we can always help the others that come in later in the afternoon catch up.

Most of the time I will be able to play on the weekends. But once in a great, great while (frequency is determined using lunar cycles and stonehenge) I actually do something on the weekends. Originally...that's what I thought it was going to be or at least mostly Necro's. But...after making 4 Commando's I needed something else besides a Necro to be...and after finding Mep's Fire Druide thread wanted to try that.

Besides...any group should have at least 1 Druid in it anyway.

Well...if G went with freeze...he would give you the chance to raise your army regardless.

I would think that MM could go with both...since the stat points are basically they same anyway for both ranged and melee.

g decided to go with fanatic zealot. it's a standard party friendl build that is also pwnage solo style. here's the layout:

Skills:

20 - Sacrifice (syn to zeal)
20 - Zeal
5 - Holy Shield (more added here late game)
20 - Fanatacism
1 - Holy Freeze (helps in certain situations)
1 - Prayer / Defiance / Cleansing / Vigor / Redemption / Salvation
rest in blessed aim for hidden ar bonus

Stats:

Str: 110-120
Dex: 100-110
Vit: Rest
Nrg: Base

Obviously Fanatacism helps the entire party, and that is the main aura. But holy freeze is there when needed (flayer jungle) and of course the bevy of defensive curses is very helpful to everyone!

This is the basic setup i've used since 1.08, less the synergies of course. Works extremely well like I said in either parties or solo play.

When you find a build that works...stick with it. Besides...it gives me the best of everything really...a Summoner(cuz to cause lag is always important)as well as the chance to melee if I feel the need to.

After making almost every build in the game...the Commando is my favorite.

But...need a well deserved break from it...and liked what I read about Mep's Fire Druid to want to try it.

I don’t think I’m going to use ES. I’ll get a few points in Lightning Mastery and Shiver Armor. And maybe some in T-storm.
The LM will allow me to deal with FI’s and the SA will boost my defense. Together with Defiance and Shout that should give me a lot of defense.
T-storm is fun and I want to see if it is semi-helpful. The idea of an attack I do not need to watch is appealing. If anybody has ideas on T-storm do tell me.

Alternatively I could max TK, put a point or so in ES and dump the remainders in SA.

I'm looking forward to the new ladder season (and currently saying goodbye to my current ladder characters), and this seems to be an interesting way to start the season. I'm interested in that Magic Arrow zon that was recently posted on the Strategy Compendium, and I'm not on that frequently anyways, so I won't be around that much to cramp into this group.

AIM me on Holy Rabite (not on that much right now), and I should be on around the weekends on the afternoon. I'm in the Eastern Daylight Time (ie. GMT -4 hours).

Well...you did try to go over to East with the Trang's build thing that was happening at that time...but ended just going back to the West.

Even if this doesn't work out somehow...I'm going to have a small group of my own to do this with...because it seems like whenever these group idea's come around...they seem to fall apart some way after a short time.

And I actually want to see it through...with very simple rules:

1) We clear out each area...like Mad Mantis said ealier in this thread.

2) We get every wp in each act before killing the boss and moving to the next one.

3) We only play these characters in our group *until the goal is reached of killing hell Baal. Otherwise...it defeats the purpose of playing as a group.

Other than that...it's about having fun...leveling..and alot of bs'n.

I just collected a runemaster back from a friend, bought my Lad Freezer a Beast Zerker ( I made it :drool: ) and 4 offensive aura charms on non, has 2 shapeshifters on non lad waiting for lad druid, has a +22 life summon charm on that said lad druid for Commandomancer. Will prob buy some more offensive and ss charms.

Remade barb in hopes of 4xShael Griz caddy now. Put Death Clever on paladin.

Now it's a waiting game.

Things are picking up right now. The bonuses are increasing and the duration is 5 minutes. I just didn't expect the character to be this weak. And since I was accustomed to two-handed Meleemancers with a lot of BA this demanded a small change in playing strategy.

Kinda defeats the whole purpose to level a merc in a solo game when it is low...that happens to be one of the toughest parts for the merc...since everyone knows that the more people in a game the more exp the merc will get "from the owner of him's kills".

What I've noticed so far about this group idea...as difficult as it is for everyone (all 8) to get into a game...a some in totally different time zones...that getting all of us in 1 game probably will never happen. Most we have had in 1 game was 6 and that was good for the time that it happened and was alot of fun with Patsy doing what he does best.

Seems like we can get between 3-5 online at the same time most of the time...which would normally be ok for leveling purposes and for moving onward because of the 3 person rule. But seems that we can't get the entire people in a group to do so...for whatever reason there is.

And that makes it even tougher for some to move on to the next act...and for that reason I myself had to make a new character since it was almost impossible to get 3 into a game at the same time.

This does make you see why other groups like the Kbob's Trang's group and the others in the past have failed...everyone wants to do it but when it's time to "put up or shut up"...most just shut up. The rules (and everyone agreed to) are not that difficult...what has proven difficult is actually getting the people that are on in a game with the rest of those that have decided to make this group work.

The inactivity in the group is bad, when some are on nonlad when could be helping the group and leveling thier characters, so we don't have to go so far back to catch them up.

I'm tempted to say that the 3 rule needs revising to two, since that seems to be more of a handicap than a guideline with so few active members.

We play only WLoK...and do have mfer's in the group(myself and nc) and whoever else there is also.

Well...I manged to get someone that will be more active and be on longer also out of his retirement and even had him switch over to East as well...my good friend(and Road Dawg) LyteHammer.

So at least now when there's 4-5 people on...there will be a better chance of getting 3 people into the group game instead of being off doing whatever it is that they have been doing(be it Ladder or Non) and it's not just any 1 person.

I was told that my 'prayer' merc was aptly-named for he had a 'prayer' for surviving NM at his level.. which was proven true.. so painfully, expensively true..

My Merc needs some AI transplantation. I believe the AI of a Tomb Reaver Revive would be nice. Sometimes he just refuses to move. Maybe he likes looking at the pretty Hydra's.
