Hi i found Demonhorn's Edge the unique destroyer helm the other night mf and i noticed the 'attacker takes damage' mod 72 on this one, and it got me thinking about how 'attacker takes damage' works exactly and if a build based around this mod could work. Looking through arreat summit i would all the items with "attacker takes damaage", working with theses items gives around 419 'attacker takes damage', Razortail, toothrow etc. So i was wondering is this mod useless or could it be viable?
thanks

I don't think it would be. All Hell monsters have thousands of hit points, and the attacker takes damage is halved, like all physical damage. Besides, a build that relied on that would quickly use up all the gold on the realm buying health potions.

the global 50% physical resistance in Hell was removed in 1.10, so the dmg from that is no longer halved. However, you are right, it wouldn't do much with the monsters having 1000s of hp.

attacker takes damage of x when hit. i just love that mod on sigons, such fun running through carver camps and seeing all of them falling down as you hit them!! :flip: rather useless in the rest of the game though :/

I agree... attacker takes damage x is rather useless in most cases... however if for some odd reason you could come up with a viable design I'd be interested to see it in action.

I like the non-conformist style chars that not everyone would play.

Humph I would really like to tell you the build that use it but it negates all possible suggestions that other have given you.

It is possible to build a build that relies heavily on "attacker takes damage of" , "%chance to cast on striking", "thorns aura" (only from bramble runeword since your talking barb characters) the build is slow and needs to be backed up with lots of life and loads of reduced damage. The attacks have to hit you to deal damage but they do not have to inflict damage on your character for the enemies to take damage.

I have seen builds for a necro, sorc, pally using these type of items but I have yet to see a "Iron/natresist vita barb" using these types of items. They are all novelty build that are not ment to tackle all of the game.

I heard about a meleemancer in cows that use decrep and a bunch of dmg reduced by items. He basically could stand in the center of a bunch of cows and take no dmg whatsoever or so I heard...

I know people who have Energy shield sorcs who can stand in a fight and take no damage. They however have a problem with mana drain enemies. if you can get a char to take not damage when hit then you can use ctc when struck as a nice little bonus attack. I am not sure if these types of attacks get synegries or not but I know mastery works on the ctc spells. Imagine 100% chance to cast frost nova with a sorc that has -100% cold resistance.

interesting... but I say ditch the DR and load up on death rainbow facets as well, I call it the kamakazie (sp) build. softcore only lol, very sado-masachistic.

Addition to light radius is the most useless IMO

Yeah, light radius makes it so you can see more enemies and more enemies can see you. It rocks with a LF zon in hell cows whose dmg only improves with more enemies. I gotta say that's probably one of my favorite parts of the game as there isn't another character that can level 30+ cows in one attack in under a second as there isn't another attack in the game that scales like LF.

so "attacker takes dmg of" dmg still suffer the pvp penalty?
