Now seriously. I thought it would be cool to get together a group to start/run the new ladder season with. We'll be going untwinked (surprise), so everyone pick a char...

There should be at least one summonmancer, simply coz they are one of the most powerful untwinked builds (imo), and will be doing massive killing for us. :D

Yeah we really need to sort our play time out, however if it's too intensive I'm out I'm afraid. I'd be cool with something like 2 (maybe more) hours a night (can't do friday or saturday though) but a serious 10 hours or something a day is just far too much for me.

Heavily dependant on what comes up, but I'll be up during every free moment from 10:00 - 23:00 CET. ...I just hope ladder 2 starts before the 13th of July. Thats basically when I'll be out.

To achieve what? High lvls, nice items faster than other people, its like a competition, with everybody starting from scratch. Though the main idea is basically to play,for the fun of the game. :)

Well I mean sure. What we can do is divide ourselves based on our levels.

Some notes on organisation: For the first few days we'll be playing normally. After that, when there's someone left behind, one of the higher levels will create a game with those left behind, help them quest and lvl and then rejoin the rest - so as to keep up the pace.

Whoever is much farther behind (so called ....casual...) , you guys'll just group up with each other. Feel free to call the higher lvls for help, of course.


As far as item sharing is concerned, if we just stick to the idea of "help each other" then we should be, for the most part, quarrel free. Don't expect items from others and no begging! ...But there's rarely been problems like that with etf members. :-)

Definately. Keeping stuff for other chars or for trade shouldn't be allowed if someone in the party can make use of the item.

I'm pro item sharing, what about rune-drops? Will they be stored for group use, or are those items for the killer or grabber? Will there be a final blow char for a tad extra magic find?

For me, I'm used to miss a lot of drops cause I play always with a full inventory and use Cube for grabbing. Hence my favour for item sharing! :lol:

I would be in support of sharing our items at the beginning, so as to run through norm and nightmare as best we can. I don't think this'll be a problem for most people (its just sigons belt...etc.).

One exception: I call tir ral ort and sol! :teeth:

Later on, once the more valuable stuff will begin to drop, you won't be expected to share it. Whoever gets the item will be agreed at the beginning of the game - be it whose kill or whose grab gets it.

What do you guys think of this sort of setup?


Ultimate team blend. My single player experience in /players 8 mode tells me this will be the ultimate setup:

-One summonmancer
-One sorc with frozen orb
-The rest

We've got two necros :clap:, now all we need is two people to declare themselves as sorceresses with frozen orb. Once we've got those, the rest can choose chars as they want. Basically, pick who you want to play.

...if that doesn't help then: Since we've got all the tanking we need (haven't forgotten about ww barb, zealot, etc.) more distance-damage dealing sources would balance things out more. Ie. a bowazon, trap sin, etc...

As I stated earlier there will be no limit to players. And now that I see how many are interested, we'll have to figure out a way to organise all this.

The way I see it, the best way to arrange stuff would be through a d2 chat room. There's the "Public Chat Etf" channel up, but I don't know whose bots are running those and if we'll be able to use them ourselves. If thats a no, someone here will have to volunteer to set one up.


No need to panic though, we're only at 13 (?) so far. And it's not like everyone will be on at the same time.

Im all for giving to the ones who can make use of the items which are in the group, and not ending up like a public ninjalooting contest like ive sadly ended up in most of the time :yep:

I think I make a separate account for this, so the friends list is more like a member list. I have a laptop with a 2nd CD-key and Diablo installed, which can be used if the game isn't full.

As for the drops, there should be agreement. Otherwise people will be annoyed later on when 'missing' drops. The threadmaker (UserMathias) could have a 'vault' account to store, and people can take stuff from there when needed to upgrade and for trading.

Otherwise the group-thing isn't going to work and we'll end up solo-MF'ing and pub baalrunning.

Any thoughts on this?

Basically i think its a trust issue.. especially in this game its easy to be a sceptic when it comes to other people.

Personally I hope ill hook up with a few people ill enjoy the company off with this playgroup..and item sharing will be more of a "standard" thing for me to do...

But having people you enjoy playing with is 90% of the fun for me in any game online. But im not naive when it comes to trust either :)

Well, I figured that with the flexibility of agreeing drop-calls we'll have a fairly even distribution, and, these evenly distributed would be appropiately shared with however else.
In this setup, say there's a situation where A gets the item, but doesn't need it and knows B wants it. Then out of his kindness, he'll give to B.

What you guys pointed out was quite true - this just might not work. So, as proposed, all items found during our team games would be like considered to be owned by this "guild", and will be distributed to whoever needs what.

This needs organization.

Point 1. Characters in the team.

a) Tanks.

-1 Summonmancer
-At least one of the following: Hammerdin, Zealot.
-One barb. Conc/singer, whatever you want (all I know about barbs is that they BO, which is what we want them for)

Prefferable/Limit: 4

b) Elemental

-As we say, "all thrown into one bag". All the (powerful) sorceresses, javazons, trapsins, etc. We have to of course make room for these, having so many that are declaring themselves as them.
-Avenger paladin for his conviction.

Preferrable: 3
Limit: 4

c) Support/Keep the rest alive group

-Frost Zealot: Slow monsters means less damage. Need i say more?
-Cleric: The character designed for party play. Gotta love that heal :D

Preferrable/Limit: 1


Point 2. The when and how.

I'd like everybody to do three things: 1. Pick your character. 2. State what during which hours you will playing. and 3. Declare yourself as a casual player, or as a hardcore 10 hours a day player. Do you plan to mf, or to reach lvl 99?

This will let us split up into two groups. ^^

Here's me: 1. Fire sorc. 2. Every free moment between 10:30 and 23:00. 3. Non casual. I plan to do plenty of mf'ing, and lvl99 is not my main goal. - will aim for ~85 or so.

Be sure to keep track of who has chosen what. And... try to organize yourselves into the two groups.

There will be a maximum of 8 players in the non-casual group. Should we meet up in 7 people I or someone else will just call a friend over.

I'd like someone else to be the leader of the casual group. For starters the limit will be 12.


Point 3. Sharing.

Share your low level items so we can level through the blood moor as quick as possible. :yawn:

Afterwards, the possesor of whatever drops during our group runs will be agreed by the members of the run. Whoever needs it most will get it. If you can't come to an agreement (which I hope won't happen, come on now, Team Spirit!) then the leader of the group will do the dealing.

What you find on your own is yours and you can do what you want with it.


Hope this should (start) help(ing) get us together.

I'm sure that will work out. Think its more to plan alittle.. If a group of 6 HC will play 10hours straight.. then they have 4 to choose from, 2 more HC or 2 who only got 1-2 hours.. might be better to keep a team for the 10hours etc.. Pretty sure stuff will come in the way for some..

But i think a chat for the group is needed, i'm sure Mathias or someone has it comming so wont nag about it anymore :bow:

Yes atleast in the beginning. In the beginning i think most are motivated to play, my expirience with ladder games in general is that the motivation for alot fades abit after a week or 2. And once ppl are at hell baal, the difference shouldnt be all that big.

Anyways, lets call it a luxary problem;P

rumor has it the reset is happening soon so can someone decide what the game name and password is we will use for our team games.

i assume we will continue to use the public chat etf chanel in d2 to meet up,
and also the #ladder2 Mirc chat channel to arrange to meet online ?

game name needs to be summit simple that can have a number added to the end as we make new games and as more peps join we may have several games on the go at the same time.

I'm back after a few days of moving stuff in. We'll be having guests as of tomorrow, and I'm leaving the 13th.

Oh, ladder reset is "tommorrow"? About time. Bad timing, nonetheless.

I'll be on no more than 2, maybe 3 hours a day for the next few days :(

And I'd also like to encourage everybody to cash in some of their stuff for sojs after the reset (theyre not very expensive nonladder) and take part in what the other group is organising, a "3-4 sojs in exchange for the ip address", ran, if I'm correct, by Ivasar. This would make for a real good start.


Also, make sure you have no pul, mal or gul runes. Upgrade them asap! They're not worth much non-ladder.
Many trades go like: Need runes um+ (no mal and no gul).
