I'm a pretty poor (item-wise) axe ww barb, without the possibility to get a good runeword-axe, and I just wondered: is a shael'd hellslayer useless on a ww barb?
I found one on an old mule yesterday and have been testing it a little bit, without coming to a real conclusion. My current weapon is an eth gimmershred.
Thanks in advance. :)
It's not called HellSlower for nothing. :D So yes , it sucks for a barb.

Gimmershred is better, even if hellslayer is socketed with a shael (or two :P)?
Gimmershred feels so...toothpick-y :P

Yes hell slayer is sloowww. Really for a barb for only using ww or a fury werewolf. What you could do is make a leap attack barb. That would actly work for you wile using that hellslooowwwwer. Read the guild if you diside not to do that cool but I bet you will still have some fun reading it.

as others have said, its slow. the only real useful hellslayer requires a very rich player: an ethereal hellslayer with a zod used on a fury druid or perhaps some sort of variant like a charge paladin or leap attack barb. the mod on hellslayer multiplies damage by % and so when it is ethereal the damage becomes super high.
at level 85, an eth zod hellslayer does:
147-1140 damage
an eth BotD thunder maul with +375% dam does:
235-1282 damage
so you can see that, when ethereal, the hellslayer does do quite a bit of damage, and also adds a lot of strength and vitality (which is balanced out by the +30 to all on BotD). obviously, anyone would prefer a BotD over an ethereal hellslayer, and since they both cost a zod rune to make, you dont exactly see a lot of werewolves running around with eth hellslayers. its slow, no matter what, and it doesnt have any crushing blow either.
