Dawn of a New Era: IRONMAN OPEN LEAGUE

This is an experiment. If it works, and continues to have participants, it may become more steadfast.

The Ironman Open League:

-What is an ironman?
An ironman is a competition in which every player involved creates a new character. These characters play together to level 9, and then duel eachother, in bracket form or in FFA (free for all). The last man standing usually wins a prize.

The Rules:***NOTE: THESE WILL BE ENFORCED, THERE WILL BE A REFEREE ON HAND, WHO WILL KILL ANY CHARACTER THAT DOES NOT OBEY THESE RULES TO THE LETTER***

1: Once leveling commenses, no character is allowed back into town for ANY REASON. Once you leave town, you stay out of town until you reach level 9. Once the party reaches level 9, everyone will go back to town. If you reach level 9 before your party or any of its members, you may go back to town BY YOURSELF.
2: AFTER the party has reached level 9, players may buy from vendors, and trade amongst themselves. No help will be given in any way by the referee.
3: Dueling will be held in bracket form for IOL, meaning players will be matched up randomly with another player. The two said players will then fight to the death, should one player return to town or leave the game for any reason, that player will be disqualified. While a duel is in progress, all other players, save for the referee, will remain in town. Once the duel is over, the player still alive may return to town and repair, or heal, etc.
4: LIFE REPLINISH OF ANY KIND IS NOT ALLOWED. This means Prayer, health potions, rejuvination potions, skulls in armor/helmets, etc, is NOT ALLOWED.
5: Health potions and rejuvination potions are strictly prohibited. Stamina Potions, Antidote Potions, and Mana Potions are however allowed.
6: Any spells which eat away at a characters life slowly, such as the holy fire aura, or poison creeper, etc, are not allowed. Summoning is not allowed.
7: If you leave the game for any reason, you will be disqualified. If you time out, this does not count, you will be allowed back into the game, granted it doesnt happen excessively.
8: POISON JAVAZONS ARE NOT ALLOWED. These builds were found to be entirely too powerful, and won every time.

Now that the boring stuff is over, heres the when/how/who/what stuff

This will take place on USEast, HC Ladder. It will take place once a week. Entry fee will be 2 pgems of any kind. The entry fee will be collected 1 hour prior to the event, if not sooner. The entry fee will be collected by the specified event referee. The events will take place on Thursday nights, at 9:30 P.M. EASTERN TIME (thats 8:30 P.M. central). We will meet in channel Op IOL. Everyone who is participating will be expected to show up in the channel ~5 minutes early. We will wait until 9:35 P.M. Eastern time to begin. Should there be more than 8 players, a second referee will be utilized and two games will be made. !!!YOU WILL BE IN CHARGE OF CONTACTING THE REFEREE BEFORE THE EVENT TO PAY YOUR ENTRY FEE!!! The winner of the event will take all of the PGems collected as entry for their prize. This means that if you win 1 in 8, you come out even, if you win more than 1 in 8, you come out ahead.

So, information for the first event:
Thursday, June 24, 9:30 P.M. Eastern Time, USEast realm, HC, Ladder.
The referee for this event will be Matt, account name *Trickytrout

The idea of an entry fee feels very self serving to me... why not just do it for free. If you dont there are plenty of other places that hold them fr nothing ie. clan honour etc.

ok heres how it goes. 8 people each start for an ironman, but they each mule 1 or maybe 2 items like a bsod or bfist. they dont party though. the first person to kill andariel wins. of course, you can hostile and duel the other people so you can get their peice of nice muled gear.

mn_swe4 organized ironman tournament with an entry fee of 5 pgems and the winner got them all. it was great fun and the winner had some cubing stuff afterwards

well its east ladder hc and i am on europe. i even cant pay 2 pgems then ;)

is there a sponsor out for me in east? :D

I liked one i did a while back, you leveled as much as you could until everyone was level 9, a pally got to levle 15 i believe.

Its not really self serving sense the PGems are the prize. Matt and I are getting nothing from it except fun.

Yeah.. theres nothing self serving about it. I'd just as soon remove the prize, we firgured with a low entry cost (only 2 pgems) where the winner gets all of them, we would get more intrest in it. If you all say you would play, but for no entry fee, thats fine, but keep in mind, its a two way street. Dave and I are not exactly the richest (I chronically die, and he is just returning) We can try to provide a weekly prize, but as of right now, both our highest characters are about level 30.
Basically it comes down to this:
A. No entry fee, either no prize or a small one.
B. A small entry fee, winner takes all.

To restate, there is nothing in the "entry fee" for Dave or I, it all goes to the winner. We just figured that option B would be more appealing than option A, but if thats not the case, we can just as easily do option A.
I know Casey mf's a lot, maybe he can keep an eye out for a titanslike prize or something.. Ill ask him.

So, if people could let us know what you prefer... option A or B, that would be cool. Either way works.

One thing I would be willing to do would be to (once i got a character capable of nm cows) do about 10 nm cow runs and get enough pgems to pay for 1-3 people from another realm to come play, because I agree, one thing thats fun about ironmen is that its completly untwinked, no gear needed, so anyone can do it, regardless of realm. So jedi, I cant run nm cows now, but I can sometime soon, so I'll be sure to do that and support our fellow ironmen on different realms, maybe some of the other "regulars" want to help me a little bit?

Matt, maybe you (or another regular) could make mule for the purposes of holding prizes, I mf a lot and some items, while nice, just don't seem popular or easy to trade for p gems to feed my cubing habit. I could donate things like djinn slayer, ik boots, griz armor, death's set, ammy/rings, medusa's gaze, LoH, etc that are just sitting on mules. Granted, these aren't titans/occy but it's an offer.

I don't have a problem with the 2 gem entry fee, even though my best winning strategy is to get everyone elsed killed by rakinishu.

Here is the way to get pgems... Make a level 1 char and go into cow game and pick up flawless gems and mule them to a char with a cube, get around 10 p gems and you are set for 5 meets of iron man gaming, of course alot more if you win :D, this is pretty much what I did last night. (I used a classic char for reference)

Tooie, that sounds like a great idea. How would I do that? Get a list of rich people or people who MF a lot, and give them all the password to an account for just that purpose, and all of us/them put donations on that account?

Also, Like I said, I'll be willing to put some of my pgems towards some non east people playing in them, its only 2pgems I've got probably 10 sitting on a mule, and more coming in through the trade forums... I'll donate them to this. Also, when I win my first match, if we are in need of gems for this purpose, I can donate mine to that.

Basically, heres what I would like to see. A system where there is a prize for winning, but where people who cant afford it or dont play east are helped by those with a little extra, so we can all join in on the fun. After all, if someone from, say, Europe wins, they dont want a bunch of pgems on east, so they could give them back to us, and we could use those pgems to help other people from different realms participate. Just an idea....

if you win you get all 6 7 or 8 players 2 pgems each. for net gain of like 12, if you lose, you get nothign for net loss of 2

And the whole referee thing is kinda shady.. not accusing anybody of being a cheat mind you but maybe give prize only after winner/s commit suicide so we know no one had any uber items on their person? :scratch: I made my acct. on east and i got a newb sorc to 40 but i died!! So i'll keep tryin to get some pgems and i do still wanna play my new acct. is *ironmania

Poison is generally not allowed (no chipped emeralds either), not sure if you find a rare weapon which has +6 posion dmg over X seconds is allowed

From another thread, I added chars as I remember em. I never made to the duels since I was viciously trapped and PK's by Matt (actually, he just led soem monsters to the exit of the underground passage and ( walked into them while on the phone with no pots - wasn't his fault, I'm just giving him some abuse) Necros with bone armor are pretty tough, I didn't get to see Dave's strategy, but I assume it involved amp and a bow?

"The first ever IOL Ironman was held tonight, and it was a great success! A wonderful time was had by all! I, Dave, ended up winning. I donated the gems to the "fund a different realmer fund". this means that all the pgems i won will go towards sponsoring folks from other realms so that they too can play in out ironmen. It went down like this:

First match: Me (Dave - necro) vs. iol-budlight (Barb)
it was a great fight, and i escaped with literally only a few hitpoints. the match lasted at least a good 2 minutes until bud finally fell.

Second Match: Me (Dave - necro) vs. HowsYourTea (Pally?)
Another great fight. this one fell a little bit faster, but thats mainly because i didnt have to run quite as much he fought extremely well and had me quite scared towards the end when i was slowly being eaten away by the poison from his mace.

Third Match: Me (Dave - necro) vs. Tomato (Zon or necro, I forget)
this wasnt really a fair fight sense tomato was lagging terribly. he was generous enough to donate his gems to the fund as well, and dueled more honorably than anyone else, myself included."

if its on tonight im deff in again, last time was a blast...

i havnt been around the forums to much latley so i dont know if we ever got around to discussing any rule amendments? last time i believe the ones who made it to lvl 9 and wernt slain by the trapped passage to darkwood stairs were me (zon), a nec, barb, and 2 sins. the nec ended up winning it with a poison dagger/bone armor build. as i recall the recastable bone armor was a major problem for us other meele chars. by the time you broke through it you were poisoned and the nec had run away to recast bone armor and it was a rinse and repeat situation. although the bone armor did seem quite overpowered, i dont believe the a nec shouldnt be able to use it because it would severly cripple the nec as a viable character in the ironman... although maybe the ref should put a limit on the number of recasts.. say 5 or even 10 :lol: :rant:. that or either do away with poision dagger completly as was done with all the other poison. i dont believe either one alone poses a problem, but together it just becomes that "rinse and repeat" of cast, land a hit or 2 untill the bone armor was cripled, run, cast, ...

not complaining on how it went though, it was a blast and i had a great time participating. and it was kind of funny to see the nec beat the s*** out of all the "stronger" meele characters.

anywho, i hope its going on tonight i'd love to give it another shot.

so i guess just reply and we'll see... :clap:

edit: oh yeah, and i just cought this btw
