hi, i've made a blizz sorc to kill meph. she's currently level 74, still doing nm baal runs, and her stats are as follows:

base/with items
str: 60/112
dex: 25/59
vit: 80/112 -> 586 life
nrg: 35/57 -> 525 mana
~250 extra skill points

skills:
1 in static and teleport
maxed blizz, glacial spike
1 frozen armor (is shiver better?)
lvl 15 ice blast (w/o skills)
lvl 13 cold mastry with skills

13 extra skill points.

items:
shako (will ptopaz it soon)
tal's armor, ammy, belt
occy/wizspike
whistrans/rhyme
bloodfist/magefist/crappy chances
2 nagels, (until i trade for an anni, i'm using a +20 str, 117 mana ring)

my plan is as follows:

go the dex route, use whistrans and wiz to teleport down to meph wearing bloodfists, with 6 frames block, 10 frames hit recovery, and 9 frames cast.

when i get to meph, weapon switch to occy and rhyme shield, put on chances, and blizz him.

whatever is left over from dex, put into life and mana. how much life and mana will i have if i go this route, and would it be enough?

i figure i'll put more points into cold mastry - take it to -100%... how much cold mastry is good against meph?

so i guess my major question is how much cold mastry, but i'd like to hear suggestions or views on whether this setup will funtion well. thanks!

Meph has 75% cold resist, so you'll need -175% CM to bring him down to -100% res

you can do the math yourself and figure out the exact skill level of CM in the game.

I'm not sure I understand going for blocking if this is a meph runner. FCR and resists will get you to meph and from there I don't see the need for blocking. Meph's attacks are magic based unless your that close to him he can hit you which would be very rare.

Now if you were going to do pindle then I could understand going for blocking. And don't get me wrong... my present sorc has blocking... its a personal choice really.

I'd say at lvl 74 with the gear you have you shouldn't have a problem getting to durance 3. But usually the council is far worse than dealing with Meph himself. Unless you plan to teleport over to him. I always just kill the council since they can surprise you with a cool item drop plus it gets them out of the way. You have good gear so you should be able to take them out fairly quickly.

with whistrans and wizspike, the dex input really isnt that bad, especially since i'm too cheep to get good cold charms. i can just have a few dex charms. i figure a similar investment into life at my level would only yield something like 150 or 200 hp, which, while it is not negligible, is not as helpful i believe as 75% vs 5% block, especially with a block rate faster than my hit recovery. if i tank meph, then i'll be using block, and if i don't, i'll be using the moat trick.

i still have about 50 points saved. i think i'll eld my whistrans and put them into vit. so far, i've put none into mana. while i wouldn't say mana is a problem, it is annoying to have to buy so many blues.

well this is just my 2 cent: eld in whistan doesnt save much dex as far as i know. i think using the formula the amount of block has diminishing returns based on the amount put in dex and also the block of the shield. since whistan already have 75+ block, i think it would only save u like 10 dex ^^

not so many mana, use pots, life is more important, leave magefist on, occy + rhyme + tals set is MF enough, and after practising your tele skills, you are ready for meph HELL, 1 tip, use moat trick, quick and safe!

just use the moat trick...
i just tele to meph witout other following..
then tele to the other side of the moat where blood lords can't get c u.
then blizz away lol
