I know this is pretty late, but it's been on my mind for a bit now. As most of you well know, the last episode of Friends was aired in mid may. As I watch the networks now all i see are hours and hours of reality TV shows. It's a cheap way for the network to not hire script writers, directors and actors, but to make money and get ratings. It seems like TV has gone done the drain recently. Good shows like NYPD Blue, Law and Order, ER are going down the toliet. Replacing them are obsurd reality TV shows such as survivor, Real world, the swan, the Bachelor, Big Brother, Outback Jack, Toddtv, Jesus Christ the list continues on and on.
Shows like Seinfield, Cosby show, Cheers, Fraiser, Friends, Everyone loves Raymond, Fresh Prince of Belair (not sure whether this one was a great or not, but i loved it), Rosanane, Home Improvement. They're all gone, replaced by endless replays on cable network TV.
It seems like TV stations are getting lazier and lazier, and making MORE money in the process by putting out TV shows that they know is crap, but can't help but air and love it. Even SNL, one of my favorites is going down the drain.
It just saddens me that TV has evolved into this huge, big... piece of reality TV trash that just keeps going... and going... I recently saw a commerical for ANOTHER American Idol the other day. I mean come on... how much of this crap can you possibly take?
Smart Comedy has been replaced by normal people just trying to get on TV. Just look at that new show with the Hilton Sister on it (i'm not sure what the name is, and I sure as hell dont feel like looking)
This is my just trying to get some things off my chest, if you enjoy watching reality TV, I'm sorry. BUT IT SUCKS!
Friends.... never saw a single episode, never had any interest in it.

I live in Mexico city, and I really dont see tv anymore coz the reality shows, not only the ones in cable, but the ones in open tv, to be more precise the big brother mania hit Mexico really hard.
At least I can read and play Vampire with my friends.

All those sitcoms have run dry, atleast reality T.V. was a newer rehash of an old idea (Let's face it, America's Funniest Home Videos with Bob Saget was the king). It's all been done before, Shock Jocks are no longer shocking, comedies are no longer hilarious, etc. How many comedies of overweight, lazy, drunk, loud dads can we have?
edit: The true end of television was in 2001 when Walker Texas Ranger had it's last episode.

Friends blew. All it was was people living above any means they could possibly afford with the same old situation every week... (x slept with y, z's ex comes to town.)
Now what we should all be outraged about was the fact that Joss Whedon doesn't have a show on the air right now. Buffy was ended voluntarily, Firefly kinda blew, but Angel was cut out in its prime.

I'd rather watch crappy flash animations on my computer then watch t.v. every show sucks accept for a couple like various animal planet shows like croc hunter, other then that I only like wildboyz :cheesy:

Yes, Fresh-prince was a great show, a great vehicle for Will Smith, and did wonders for race relations in North America. But back to the topic at hand, TV does suck now but I'm going to go over Baltozers list of watchable (new) TV shows anyways;
The Sopranos - easily the best show on TV right now, Tony Soprano is the most well developed character in television history. The last season was a tad weak but still heads above everything else.
King Of The Hill - great show and they have in Hank the most likeable character on television.
Conan O'Brian - The best of the big 4, he actually does comedy instead of the others who just read jokes
John Stewart - takes political coverage, dumbs it down, and makes it funny
Family Guy - I hear they're making new ones so it counts.
Friends.... never saw a single episode, never had any interest in it.
Same here.
In fact, besides CNN and occasionally the History Channel, I rarely ever turn my tv on.
However, that's going to change in October when the Horror Channel (http://horrorchannel.com/) begins broadcasting. I can't wait.

Gogo reruns!
I tune into the Discovery channel sometimes. Some of the new shows are actually kind of interesting. Last week I learned how those hard candies are made :)
Methinks true tv ended when the X-files (with mulder and scully as lead characters) did. But that's just me.

Reno 911 is finally making new episodes again so that's good. There are tons of good things on TV is you know what to look for. Some good shows are Bernie Mac, South Park, Everybody loves Raymond, Insomniac, Tough Crowd, and many others.

Is the Simpsons the oldest running TV sitcom now? (That isn't just reruns)

No, it's not.
First, there WAS a show that ran longer. I forget what it's called. Simpson's just had it's 300th episode last year. Which isn't that many.
Second, despite what people think, and hate to admit, Simpson's is a CARTOON!
So, yeah...

I like Animal Planet too. The Jeff guy and then the Crocidile Hunter is pretty entertaining.

w0rd man. That is all I ever watch, except Adult Swim at night...

Since we are on the subject of old sitcoms and yesterday news, I didn't enjoy that last episode of Cheers.
Seinfield sucked, except for Kramer.
Cosby Show was okay.
Cheers was okay, then sucked.
Fraiser sucked.
Frends fellated barnyard mammals most powerfully.
Everyone loves Raymond sucked.
Fresh Prince started cool, then turned sucky.
Roseanne? See above.
Home Improvement was okay pretty much all the way through.
SNL? It went like this... cool, cool, cool, great, awesome, KICKASS! Uh-oh, the good cast with Adam Sandler and the rest left. Bad, worse, suck SUCK SUCK SUCK.
24 generally sucks, but has its moments, I guess.
X-Files ruled, except the final season, which totally sucked. Come to think of it, that whole "alien hybrid slave invasion" theme was horrible.
Law and Order was excellent, until they cam out with the 10 thousand spin-offs. Thank Jebus for TNT.
ER always sucked.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a great movie, and the first season or so was nice for its novelty, but it just went down hill fast. Don't even get me started on that Angel drivel.
About 98% of all "reality tv" is complete and total crap. I think I can count the exceptions on one hand.
Come to think of it, nowadays pretty much everything on tv is crap.
I pretty much only watch Comedy Central, Cartoon Network, and the varied knowledge-type channels like History, Discovery, Animal Planet... SciFi and AMC get pretty good coverage, too, for their unending stream of horror movies. And Fox, when the Simpsons or King of the Hill is on.

What about the Shield? That's the best show on tv

I only watch TV nowadays for the Seinfeld reruns. The 80s was the best time for TV, with great shows like MacGuyver, Knight Rider, Greatest American Hero, Misfits of Science, Cheers, and Magnum P.I. These were shows with great writing and/or great style. The 90s had some greats, like The X Files, Seinfeld, and Raven. Doctor Who reigned supreme in the 70s. What do we have now? Reality TV. :-(

No. I know that Doctor Who ran new episodes for almost 20 years, and there may be others in that range. EDIT: Nevermind, you said "sitcom."

Only shows on adult swim i watch is futuramana and Aqua Teen Hunger Force. The other shows i never really got into. 24 is okay, the shield is overdone. Hey look! A cop that uses unconvential techniques to get results, where have i see this? In every single movie about a police officer that ever existed.

The Dead Zone is the greatest show. If you don't like The Dead Zone, feel free to get bent.

And most of them never have a bad hair day.
Go figure.
Sopranos is the only thing on TV I watch.
TV can suck it for all times under all circumstance.
The only good is has done for society come in the forms of:
Salute Your Shorts
Pete & Pete
If anyone could hook me up with information reguarding a source for these two shows, I would be very appreciative.

Anyone here watch "Just Shoot Me"
Has anyone watched Arrested Development on Fox? Now that my other shows are in reruns Ive been watching that and its pretty dang funny. Its got David Cross and Hank from Larry Sanders in it.
re-Just Shoot Me-That was a funny show, David Cross had the best character ever in that show-Little Donnie. I still crack up about that.
Has anyone watched Arrested Development on Fox?
That show was pretty wicked. Very funny from start to finish. It's the only thing I watch with F1. The rest blows. Futurama was good, too bad Fox canned it, but hurray for the DVDs!

Are you inside my head? Because I was thinking about those two shows the other day, like Friday I think it was.

The Dead Zone is the greatest show. If you don't like The Dead Zone, feel free to get bent.
Agreed. Nothing beats a great series started by a great Stephen King novel. The second best show would either be Simpsons or Seinfeld. AND YES SIMPSONS IS A SHOW, EVEN THOUGH IT IS A CARTOON!
Futurama (created by Matt Groening (the creator of the Simpsons)) is probably the next best show. ATHF and Family Guy are great cartoon shows also. King of the Hill is ok, I just don't like the Bobby kid because he's ***. X-files was an awesome show until Molder was replaced by Doggett (the Evil Liquid Terminator from T-2).
Friends is probably the worst show ever invented, and The Shield and 24 are overated.

Everyone on friends has had sex with everyone else on Friends. Jennifer Anston is so hot.
Other than sitcoms all I watch is sports. I'll probaly watch anything expect baseball.

I was going to mention Arrested Development. I think that's the best new show on TV. I'm glad to see it's coming back for another season. The plots rather remind me of Seinfeld, but instead of the show being about nothing, it's about dumb rich people.

I remember reading an article that was saying how this "doom and gloom" talk of current tv is unfounded. It said that people were saying the same thing during the end of past tv eras, such as when Family Ties and the Cosby Show went off the error. The tv industry might be in a slump now, but it will pull out soon enough.
If anyone has HBO, I highly encourage you to check out Curb Your Enthusiasm. The first and second season are on DVD also. I would also recommend tuning into BBC America and checking out reruns of The Office and Coupling (both also available on DVD). The Office was a great, great show. Its more of a mockumentary than a sitcom, though.
Another great non-sitcom is Mythbusters.
