View Full Version : Max Revive = Waste of Skill Points?

Just wondered what the general concencous on this is.
I just build my first summoner necro (cheasy TO Summoner) and maxed Skele, Mage, Revive and Skele Mastery.
From reading through a few builds a lot of people think maxing Revive is a waste.
I have to ask why...

wel if u got many revive they start disapearing when u run a long distance and they get stuck behind someting.. second they cause loads of lag... And there not great killers...
imo not worth maxing just a few points to tank when ur skeleton gets IM casted...

Plus the revive AI is shall we say....... challenged. I mainly use revives as support, or if I feel the world must see just how large my army can get.

revives lost a lot of their power in the new patch. they no longer carry large damage, their AI has always been horrendous, and now they are greatly overshadowed by their cousins the SKELETON WARRIOR.
the one good thing about revives, is that some of their mods transfer over to their revived selves. perfect example is the blunderbore / gorebelly and his wonderful crushing blow. (<------- forgot who originally posted this info, but it wasn't me)

revives are great army filler. if you have a lot of +skill items then 1-3 points is enough. I only put like 2 point or so with them and with my gear I have like 11 revives.
I like to revive bone archers and baddies with good mods. They help take the heat of your skellies.
Summary of why I don't like 'em:
1. Too much of a pain to keep them alive. If you run someplace, your skeleton warriors and magi teleport to your side whenever you get too far away, as do your merc and golem. Your Revived just drop dead. This is a colossal nuisance. I suppose you could wear Enigma and teleport everywhere, but otherwise it's not worth it IMO.
2. They take up a lot of space and don't do enough damage. This makes them worse than useless in many cases, because they keep your skeleton warriors from packing together to deal concentrated damage. They also lag like nobody's business.
3. Even if you nursemaid them enough to keep them alive, they still die after 3 minutes; as a result, they need constant maintenance.
Now, this does not make Revive a worthless skill. On the contrary, certain monsters (Blunderbores, Gloams, Frenzytaurs) make splendid Revived and can be very handy. However, if you're a summoner, you should have at least +5-6 to your summoning skills, which would give you 6-7 Revived. This is plenty. Maxing Revive means you'd have 25-26 of the things, which is ridiculous--you'd spend all your time trying to find new worthwhile stuff to Revive, because by the time you got number 26 raised, number 1 would be timing out and dying.

Personally I believe it is a matter of choice and proper equipment, I have a necro with an Enigma he has maxed revives +8 to skills and about 50 summons in total, I just revive **** and tele around. works great for me , deadly in fact but it's equipment for me, i like revives just cause they look cool and they distract anything from actually coming after you, cause my necro's kind of puny, also if you have like 10 moon lords in hell doing frenzy they're ****ing deadly, i use them for pvp enigma-ing around and letting them run it's fun, try it out
yes revives are dumb they only last a few mins and get killed and they dont keep up but having a few is a good idea because when you get swarmed its nice to have have back ups and they help fill out your army.
Unless you are going for a pure summoner dont put more than 5 skill points into it.
Who cares if they lag other people. most people act like they hate the summoner but in fact they need them.
i played a NM cow game a while ago and I had 12 warriors 6 mages and 10 revives up and everyone was *****ing at me because I lagged the game so I left and did a trav run while they did cows and sure enough most of them died and were begging me to come back and help them so I did and once I reentered cows everyone in the game were hiding behind my army..
Yeah, I went to cows, and I asked "why is everyone following me?". "Cause you have minions", "For safety". Who cares if you lag others? I have a really crappy computer, so I have no sympathy for those who don't lag like crazy for no reason at all, like me. Besides, what's more important? That you don't lag others or that you don't die? End of story.
But maxing Revive is usually a waste of points. Skeletons are enough. I only Revive when going in a tough battle (Ancients, bosses). Even then, they're completely optional. I just don't like losing skeletons, so I get the Revives in order to provide the enemy with something else to hit other than my skeletons. I don't think you even have the mana to summon all your Revives at once. Which means that instead of cursing and CE'ing, and generally supervising your force, you spend your time looking for something to Revive and juggling mana potions. The vast majority of the monsters are far better CE fodder than Revive candidates. And even if they're good to Revive, you probably don't need them anyway. If you Revive 30 monsters, they'll be constantly dying, forcing you to constantly get new ones. Focus on the battle instead.
Edit: And it's spelled "consensus". And "cheesy". Sigh.

1 Pt is all you need in revive, you would be better off maxing CE instead
