Okay, I'm starting my first ever MF Character, a Sorcoress.
So far I have no MF gear, I'm still in normal at lvl40.
What way do I go about earning some MF Gear from drops? I have no Magic Find on any of my items, so do I socket loads of topaz's into gear ? Or do most people find MF gear from thier first few (or lots) from Drops in hell ?
Why dont you collect some perfect gems and get all you need from etf. Thats what I did since mf-ing is sooo boring.

My advice would be to find a socketed helm and some socketed Topazs and put them into that like you said. Another thing to look at is some valuable items are actually easier to find with no mf then with alot. You could level yourself up to about 75 and start running "The Pits" the cave in Act 1 Tamoe Highlands. Start collecting socketed items and start trading those for mf gear that you need. There is a vlaue list posted in the US East trade value forum you could uuse to learn what items have value.
Hope this helps

Do nightmare council runs for flawless gems (cube them to perfects) and skill charms. Trade those for MF gear.
You can take advantage of looking for items that you actually find MORE often when you have 0 MF... socketed items.
Socketed items only come from non-magical drops, so the more non-magical drops, the more socketed items.
I saw someone in Hardcore ladder offering an UM rune for a 3 socket archon plate yesterday, and that's probably just the average value.
You'll need to get yourself into Hell difficulty, but then look at all the socketed items for trade values. Here are some things to look out for:
Ethereal Colussus Blades (with either 6 or NO sockets)
Ethereal War Pikes (with 6 or No sockets)
2 socket ethereal elite armors (look for high defense like 700-900... sacred armor, hellforge plate, etc.)
3 and 4 socketed elite light armor (dusk shroud, wire fleece, archon plate), non-etheral
4 socketed flails, non-ethereal
3 socket phase blades
6 socket phase blades
if you are playing solo mainly and questing through rather than rushing to hell...
I'd say that you should run Mephisto and Baal a few dozen times in normal and upgrade your equipment with what they drop...once you max out your frozen orb or get it to about level 15 (you didn't say what build you are)
move through and do the quests in NM you can fairly well solo nm with maxed Frozen orb and continue to gather the goodies that drop from the unique bosses...you'll see a lot of rares and in my experience a lot of them will have some MF along with the other good mods..
once you find that you can survive NM meph run him and gather the things that he drops that have value to other people...trade those for mf items...and hope that in NM you get an Um from the hellforge since you can trade that for an occy/shako/tal armor, and belt/etc...if you find the right seller.
