melee double-standard?

well, i have always noticed this in games, just wondering if anyone else has. In a lot of games people say "melee only", pallys use zeal all the time, and if a barbarian for example uses ww, all the pallys spam "that isnt melee noob". so barbarians are forced to use the uber-slow concentrate or berserk, in some cases frenzy, which are all pretty underhanded compared to a 5 hit zeal. smiters, and zons also face this bias. Technically shouldn't everyone use normal attack if its "melee only" so theres is no bias? or let everyone use any attack where a weapon is struck to an enemy (or physical projectiles)

Basically to be "melee" in most people's eyes, the attack needs to meet these standards:

1) You don't move when using it. (rules out charge and ww)
2) Requires AR to hit. (rules out smite and CS)
3) Cannot be used at a non-melee range (rules out ranged like bows)

BTW do you play on East? Your name sticks out in my mind.

Anyway I have not heard anybody tell me that FireClaws isn't melee.. Well in the pubs anyway. Do private games restrict FC at all?

Melee is any attack that uses your weapon range. So, no spells or missiles (bows don't have weapon range). Ppl compaining about ww/fireclaws/smite are just silly. There's a reason why barbs are the king of melee :thumbsup: .

i agree.. ill end this conversation rite now.. ww smite fc charge ARE melee and if u dont beleive me then why dont u get a zon with maxed "dodge" and see why she dodges those attacks

now ive never dueled fc bears but i no for a fact ive dodged wws so ya.. they are melee attacks. but not considered melee in the d2 world :P

dkay I guess it depends on how you define melee. I think you are correct in what you wrote but for some I think melee = fairness.

Example- Smite is using a weapon.. Sort of but it's itd. Taking ar out of the equation = not melee for some/many.

I have seen 154,457,001 of these threads and I am pretty sure we won't find an answer that makes everybody happy.

And if that was a question dkay, yes your zon will dodge my attack.

Melee by dictionary definiton - Confused, hand-to-hand fighting in a pitched battle

Melee by game engine definition - Any non ranged skill dealing physical damage. (the physical portion of rabies/charged strike/fireclaws type skills too)

Melee by 12 year old kiddies on bnet - Zeal or Fury
