View Full Version : Weapon for a Meleemancer?
My Gimmershred idea fell through, because it needed a bit too much micro, which is something I'm not specifically good at. So... I'm planning on just using a 1-h weapon.
I've been running through the Arreat Summit looking at stuff, and I can't seem to find much good to use that's cheap enough that it won't break the bank to get. If I were on Ladder, I'd probably just upgrade my Butcher's Pupil and use that, but alas, I am not. I'd like to keep to using axes, if at all possible. If it'll make it any easier, I can post my equip.
Any ideas are appreciated, since I have none.
MM's sure to be great meleemancer guide should be out after he's done with a few final touches. I've made a few in my career and I have to say(IMO) fleshripper Is THE best meleemancer weapon.

A Crescent Moon weapon is also good and not too expensive. An IK Maul will also do the trick.
He Slipin, I don't have a twinked section yet. That will be done in a later upgrade.
Hmm... Crescent Moon does look nice, but what would be the ideal thing to put it into? It's just too bad it has to be in swords or axes.

It can also be made in Polearms. A Giant Thresher is a good weapon if you want to go two handed.
For one handed a Phase Blade or a Mythical Sword will be fine. If you can stand the look of it, a Berserker Axe can also work.

I would suggest ribcracker for its amazing crushing blow, super fast attack speed (+50ias) and low strength requirement (even elite version Stalagmite require only 63str and 35dex), you can even up it and have huge dmg. I got an eth +300%dmg one, I'll keep it and if one day I have a zod, I may up it and zod it. Dmg should be 480 - 707.
Meleemancer won't put many points in dex because of the poison dagger bug. Being low in dex means any shield won't block. So I would rather make a stone armor, then enjoy the +100 def and +100% def of the ribcracker!
I want to do it for a long time, hope you success and tell us your story.

Not everyone abuses bugs. Not even if they are in the game for a long time. Raising your Dex is important IMO, because you will want a shield and the ability to block in some circumstances.
Nevertheless, Ribcracker is a really good weapon. It has a high CB and a lot of FHR.
I don't plan on using the bug, and I'm going 1h weapon with a Homunculus and max block. With the Demon Limb and one angelic ring and a Ravenfrost I hit over 8k AR (over 10k with two angelics), and I don't need any of it except for bosses if I use Crescent Moon. For the armour I'm planning on using Duress, (ugh... TWO Ums) just because it has almost everything I'm going for.
I end off with 68% open wounds, 15% deadly strike, 30% crushing blow, and 7% static, and resists in the 50-60s in hell. I've tried it in single player, and despite only doing around 600 damage with a Crescent Moon Phase, things drop fairly quick.

I would have to 2nd the Fleshripper idea. On my concentrate barb who was planning on using swords, I let him try fleshripper... my oh my it was tasty ;) He killed faster with fleshripper than with Headstriker. If you gear your necro as you would a Barb or Pali, you will see for your self. Also with -50 monster defence your Ar does not have to be that high..
While a Fleshripper would be nice, even low ones cost an arm and a leg, and I'm already dealing both legs for two Ums, so I don't have an extra one.
I just picked up some crafted gloves that look interesting. Currently, I'm planning on using Trang's gloves, but one of these could be more promising.
Raven Claw
Vampirebone Gloves
60 def
lvl 48
5% life leech
5% crushing blow
4 dex
15 life
22 light res
PLR 25%
Ghoul Claw
Vampirebone Gloves
120 def
lvl 73
3% life leech
6% crushing blow
13 str
13 life
29% fire res
Half freeze duration
Any good at all?
Sorry if these are not up to the high levels that some of the weapons mentioned can get you, but I am poor. I do not trade and only use self found items. These are some of the things I use.
My personal favorite is:
The Butcher's Pupil
+150-200% Enhanced Damage
Adds 30-50 damage
35% Chance of Deadly Strike
25% Chance of Open Wounds
Indestructible
30% Increased Attack Speed
Can also be upped on Ladder.
Also for a really cheap set up, Cleglaws sword and gloves.
Cleglaw's Tooth
+50% Deadly Strike
30% bonus to attack rating
Wearing 2 Items: +1.25 Max damage per clvl *
Cleglaw's Pincers
Slows Target by 25%
Knocks Target Back
Wearing 2 Items: +15% Resistance To All
Have used both to good effect on a meleemancer.

Both are rather nice. I would choose the second pair.

Eh? Fleshripper is exspensive? They are fairly common as far as I know.. As far as gloves go, as Mantis says the 2nd is better but Dracs or LOH would also be good choices..Have funs :)
Dracs or LOH would also be good choices.
Yeah, except that Dracs cast Life Tap on striking, and the low physical damage on the Phase does nothing for the damage to demons on the Hands.
Have funs :)
I shall, I shall.

Dang, if you were on Ladder I'd give you a Fleshripper free just for being one of the few to venture into the realm of melee necros. ;)
Anyway, I was giving your build some more thought and I wondered if Passion would be of any use. I haven't experimented with meleemancers much, but the possibility of using Zeal and Zerk doesn't sound half bad.

The problem is the HBT-mod. That mod does not matter when you are using Berserk, but it does when using Zeal.
Meleenecro's are rather well suited for using Berserk. We have our nice BA and Curses to cope with the loss of defense.
