I didn't see this in the FAQ, but I noticed that when my SM made kills, XP was being added to my Merc.

I am using a Normal Act 5 merc and saw the XP rise with him isolated and not attacking (closed him off in a room with me, while the SM was killing in the next room)

Dude, if you've seen it with your own eyes, than why would you ask us?
It's probably true.

I'm asking because I haven't had a chance to try it out with other mercs. Plus, it looks like something that should be noted in the FAQ if it is global across all the mercs and difficulties.

Previously, I was concerned that the SM was taking away kills and therefore slowing my merc's advancement. So, I'd dispell my SM for a lot of fights so my merc could get all the action.

Now, it appears like it is the exact opposite: The SM speeds up your merc's advancement.

Its better to get other people to help confirm it. So I'm glad he posted about it. I agree, I've never seen that in the FAQ or in anything else. I wonder if a Valk works the same way?

I know for a fact that anything yourself or your merc kills gives your merc exp. Naturally a shadow is your own creation to help kill things with you so it would figure anything he kills also gives exp. Think about it , traps are considered minions ..and trap kills give joint exp to you both, so why not shadows
