newbie druid question: which melee druid build is best for PvM?

I'm referring mainly to the wolf or the bear?

There's like 23423434 factors to factor in. Any idea on your choice gear?

You dont really need to know gear for this, because there is only 1 melee druid build that completely owns PvM, and that is a Shockwave bear of some kind (Shockwave / FireClaw, Shockwave / Maul or even Shockwave / Grizzly).

Im sure there is a guide around for one.

Dunno bout "owns", but I have been nurturing a werewolf with windhammer for a little while now, he's about lvl75 now and just started hell. With gear, he has just over 300 str and pretty OK life at 1400-ish. He does absolutely monster damage, trouble is he doesn't actually hit stuff that well, so this area needs to be improved. :) In order to get str up quick I sacrificed dex, this wasn't a problem with all the AR bonuses the wolf gets from his skills, but in hell it seems he needs some dex too.

Mauls are rather fast on the druid, and the windhammer is DAMN fast with fury. I had the bloodtree stump before, and while a pretty decent weapon, it doesn't touch the windy hehe. The windy's min damage is just a snippet below the stump's max, and it swings way faster too. It's so fun to see him clobber a whole horde of enemies with one slap of his paw on each monster! :)

My guy's big problem is resists, as in not having much of any. :P Since he doesn't really need leech on his gear (feral rage + hunger takes care of that), I should be able to dedicate rings + ammies for that, but I haven't found any good such items. No shield means it will not be possible to go the el cheapo route and pdiamond whatever it is he holds in his left hand. :(

owns as in 1 attack of Sockwave and everyone is still as a stone....

for an untwinked build, I would have to say a bear is best because of the shockwave and defensive bonus provided through defense and stun capabilities. For twinked play, both are highly viable, but you have to plan carefully. And yes, a wolf is far easier to plan than the bear because of better offense through fury.

I have a hardcore fury wolf using 5 parts IK (Maul, gloves, belt, boots and armour), kiara's guardian, dwarf star, dual leech ring with resists and +2 skills ammy with resists. He seems to handle most things ok, mana burn can be a problem but feral rage helps, PI is not a big problem with a reapers toll might merc and the elemental damage from IK. Decent resists (still not max yet, working on charms), nice fast hit recovery (45%).

A neat build that took me all the way through to to hell act 5 is the Tank build from 1.09. The literal ton of life helps and spirit of the barbs turns you into a literal "poke me and die" type of char. I had no problems and i was wearing total welfare gear.

I like a Fury WW, I originally used a IK Maul but changed to a upgraded Ribcracker (A 40/15 is the best to socket it with though a shael is still nice)

well take this into consideration, conviction acura amp dmg and mana burn all on u and u r surrounded by some maulers and snakes in hell, well if u can survive that, then u build is the best pvm druid. just died when those things r on me, i was like dead instantly u can see why.

so if u want a good pvm druid, then u will need extremely fast attack speed like 5 fram or maybe 4, high dmg around say 2500, very good life and mana leech, and at least 70 resis all. well u can probably archieve this by either ww druid or ww bear. but i just like wolf, haha. have fun.

Yeah yeah, we hear that many times. Sound like the raëlians about having cloned a baby: we'll show the proof at the proper time (never in this case).
