Anyone know how Poison Creeper's damage really works? I keep on hearing that its real damage is significantly higher than the listed number.

I've not heard anything about it doing more than it's listed damage, but I can tell you it's very effective throughout normal difficulty. The only thing I can think of about it doing more damage than listed is the fact it can be doing that much damage to pretty much everythihng onscreen at the same time, which can add up to alot of damage.
I dont think i've heard it doing more damage either ....
Check out this old guide (http://www.rpgforums.net/showthread.php?t=132437&highlight=alram) by Alram, which was one of the first to delve into the secrets of the Poison Creeper.
It's a guide for 1.09, but some of the insights concerning the Poison Creeper should still be valid enough.
Hope that helps a bit.

PLEASE:
Someone sticky this thread!!
thats one of the best build descriptions ever. or THE best.
To answer questions about creeper, yes it does do more damage than you would think. Not a lot more, but more, and on a summons/fire build, it can stop regen for most things. plus, if you glass cannon your Bear, it adds to the fray, having your bear hit less and living.
good points in this guide. most would put 1-10 or max a spirit. Not necesasary to get the good effect as a level 7-8 does a decent job. im goign to tinker with one of these happy builds :)
oh, by the way, I was wondering what you people think of using Fissure instead. the KB of the bear and chasing of the poison would cause more fire hits.
im just nervous about volcano plus bear KB.
anyone ?
The problem with the builds is that 1.09 builds don't cut it on 1.10 battle.net, especially Ladder where the difficulty is raised.
Poison Creeper is a nice thing to have around, but you may as well combine it with a Rabies wolf build.
Can anyone do some testing to see how the poison of PC interacts with Rabies?
Rabies is a very interesting skill in that the duration of a rabies attack has one timer, so if it lasts 5 seconds, and 3 seconds into the rabies, another monster gets infected by the first, the 2nd monster will only have a rabies duration of 2 seconds. It seems to operate independently of other poison sources, unlike Venom which alters other poison sources, and poison nova which adds to poison sources, but then shortens the duration.
At least according to chippydips calculator, the poison creeper/rabies synergy adds up to a lot of damge on the rabies side. Apparently it is infectious too. Someone also suggested using a carrion ring with such a build. I dunno what that does, but a rabid wolf could be an interesting (if slow) alternative build.
carrion wind gives +21 to synergy for the shapeshifting poison skill. more than max of 20 if you put into PC alone. hence, its usage.
its not a slow killer in shifted form, rather fast.

anyways, the 1.09 builds are still viable just not as good. however:
consider this:
theres more +skills items to choose from in 1.10. belt, HoTo, Annihilus = +3 all more skills than ever possible.
+4 if you use mang song. too bad ladder isnt collapsed, id be using mine.
Also, if you want a fire/bear/PC, youll be like level 82 or so by the time it starts to turn up the power. Twinked? well yes, thats the way you get it work powerfully well, untwinked, eh i wouldnt on ladder (ladder sux btw)
Consider my build:
1 base in oak and HoW - I agree about either being one point wonders, I used to max them, but this limits your build and isnt needed if you ahve loads of +summons like I would be using.
20 fissure
10+ firestorm - depends upon level
20 griz
10 spirit wolf
10 dire wolf
20 Creeper - this guy is REALLY cool, do not doubt it. in a multi game you wont be the focus of damage no matter what you do besides wind or max volcano. so just make a build thats neat I say.
Gear - typical twinked plus mf, i have it so, dont knock it :) old old player...
4 Elemental gcs with some life
4 summon gc's, 2 with runwalk
Magefist +1 fire
Arachnid sash
Lidless with 5/5 fire facet
Shako with 5/5 fire facet
Mara's - 25 res - could get a better rare here
Wartravelers boots
Heart of the oak - 33% res all - legit vex in it from 109
Enigma dusk - legit one completely and 1290 defense, pride and joy
A bow for a switch I am guessing, if needed be.
I could do Volcano, however, I like the idea of fire from spell, damage from griz and so on. A might merc may be the best idea, I might put something that has KB on the merc, i noticed that having both dudes kb'ing is better than just one, but I will have to see. Defensive merc might be even more insteresting since I have some decent gear, but im wondering with +2 skills on it, what would the defense level of my bear be? be nice to make him more tank like.
