ok, just to say, i am a total newb with assassins. i have been bored with diablo and i thought i'd try something new. i always thought assassins were only good for pvp. still unsure though, so if someone knows a good pvm,hc, sin build plz let me know. i am looking to play in large parties and to also be effective in hell. i do not have "godly" items though, so if the build is built around items that will not do. thanks

Generally, I would presume that Trappers are good builds for HC considering Assassins can be pretty fragile characters if a big monster gets its hands on one. Try pumping up
Lightning Sentry and Death Sentry,
Shadow Master for tank support,
some Lightning Sentry synergy skills (Charged Bolt Sentry, etc)
and some general 1-point-wonder Shadow skills like
Weapon Block,
Cloak of Shadows (a MUST have!),
and Burst of Speed (affects trapping speed).
This is generally a pretty easy build to make, and it isn't TOO item dependent. The only thing you really need to shoot for it increased attack speed, resistances, and +skill items (as many as possible).
The basic idea is to walk up to a crowd, drop a Cloak of Shadows (blinds and lowers defense), lay down a few traps, and watch them get the **** blasted out of them with huge lightning streaks.
It's pretty fun, and definately effective when you lay multiple traps (a great killer in the throne room).

Probably Fade rather than BoS if items are an issue. The only trap skill that benefits a lot from IAS is Fire Blast.
Otherwise this is what I would have recommended as well. The cool thing about trappers is you could outfit them with all shopped blue gear, and still do pretty well. Just get all the +trap skill items you can get, and you're set. JRichard has a nice guide in the strategy compendium.

I suppose you have a point about the IAS and Fade. Speed doesn't really matter much with LS and DS - especially true with a Cloak laid down.
Also, don't be a lamer and use a shield. TWO CLAWS ALL THE WAY BABY! :yep:

That guide i wrote is focused on solo play. If you are always going to be in large parties and have support for lightning immunes, you could move 19 pts from fire blast and put them into a lightning trap synergy for more damage.

If you're going to be in parties a lot, why not try my build, the Ghost? Virtually guaranteed-survival with very cheap equipment (most expensive being Skin of Vipermagi probably).
