Urlan the WannabeDruid
Note: This story/guide is inspired by Urlan from Gladius. Urlan is a barbarian who can shapeshift into both a bear and a wolf.
OVERLY DRAMATIC INTRO
No Tail, No Tail!
No Tail, No Tail!
The cruel taunts followed Urlan. He quickly ducked into the janitors closet, hoping to avoid another beating. The young druid pack would be torment him longer than usual today after he had gone and complained to the mods again.
The thought of the upcoming pain reminding him of how much life sucked as a barbarian among druids. All his life he had been a misfit, a freak. All he ever wanted to do was fit in, but it was impossible. While the other kids were practicing shapeshifting and summoning cool pets, he was making disgusting bone pillars with his food and horking potions out of roadkill.
Urlan reflected upon the last meeting he had with the mods complaining about the abuse. Garbad had not been overly sympathetic…
“As you may be aware, Druids are exempt from all legal action against them, and besides, you clearly brought it on yourself. The young druids were probably just trying to play with you and you failed to recognize it because of poor social skills and a generally low IQ.
Still, the Druids might have gone a little overboard when they stuffed you into the locker and left you there over the memorial day weekend… Hmmm… As punishment, I will suspend OT privileges for 90 seconds.
But as for you, young barbarian, this provoking must stop. If you continue to provoke the pack, you will never fit in. Two weeks banning and one more warning and you are out. Case dismissed.
A sudden clang brought me back to the small room. A unique Fury Visor had fallen from some unseen shelf. Picking it up, I wondered what this might do…
****2 Weeks Later****
Garbad: Have you seen the new kid?
Mememememmememememe173: God, he is the man. He can go wolf and bear style, extra long tail or super soft chest fur. He gets all the girls. :/
Voice: I’m a sexy 13 year old girl!! Really, I am!!!
Bob_theMadCow: I heard he can can summon all three spirits, and can even summon ravens, AND dire wolves, spirit wolves, or a grizzly.”
TheUnchosen: I hear he is a herbmaster like me. Level 21 vine -_-
~Kazama Fury~: They say he can even use crazy paladin auras and even revives too…
Dolph: Its just not fair, some people have it all….
Beowulf: HUK REDWINGS PWN YOU ALL!
TheKbob: Quote=Beowolf: cool.
Tor: Quote=Beo=Kbob:
Proudfoot: Quote=beo=kbob=tor: You guys are such spammers
Asheron: Shhh, here he comes. I hope he notices me *giggle*
Urlan walked into the room with a smile and confidently took his place among the pack. It was good to be home.
THE BUILD
As you will see, this is very much a theme build. The purpose was to make a barb that tries to imitate druids as much as possible. We all know the barbs have tail envy and all secretly want to be like us.
Although this build is not cheap and burns through gold at an impossible rate, it is quite fun to play. The comments you get are worth it, in particular in Druid pk games.
GEAR:
W1: Beast Zerker Axe
W2: Eternity Etheral Zerker Axe
W3: Crescent Moon
W4: HOTO or Canebeak
H: Wolfhowl
A: any
R: Wisp Projector
R: Carrion Wind
Ay: any (try metal grid + stone on ladder for even more fun (golem + syner)
G: any
B: any
B: any (dracs is good for the LT)
Stash: Wind (cast cyclone so you look like a druid even more)
Merc: Act 2 Might merc
Doom Cryptic Axe
Bramble
Delerium (pyrotechnic fun)
SKILLS:
20 BO
20 Shout
20 axe mastery
1 Battle Command
1+ into natural resists, increased speed, increased stamina, iron skin, etc
CHARMS:
Whatever fits your needs and budget. Resists, life, and warcrys are great. Greed charms would probably help also :o)
As you can see, the point of your gear and skills is to get as many Druid themed summons (and your revives) and great aura support. Your barb will be using Feral Rage or Maul as a primary attack.
All in all, you can summon:
Up to 8 revives (level 8)
Your choice of 5 spirit wolves (L 18), 3 dire wolves (L15), or a Grizzly (L 13)
A vine (L 21)
5 Ravens (L 8)
Your choice of Oak sage, Spirit of the Barbs, or Heart of the Wolverine
Your Auras Will provide:
~ Level 21 might (depends on merc level)
Level 9 Fanatcism
Level 15-21 Thorns
Level 12 Holy Freeze
Plus your warcries
Remember too that Crescent Moon, Wolfhowl, and Beast will synergize to create a fairly strong summon pack. You bear will do roughly 2k damage which isn’t bad considering he is only level 13. Perhaps more importantly, he will have 4.5k life range in hell, more than enough to avoid frequent recastings.
Hell Viable? Sure, once you have leeched in hell long enough to wear all your gear. Your feral/Maul will do solid damage/ar (Etheral 276% ed Zerk) when multiplied by fanat, how, might, and weapon mastery. Your defense/life should be very high (shout, iron skin, werebear. Lycanthropy) and you have a summon pack that can rival most Summon necros.
You can easily beat the hell out of any summon druid I know of and probably can compete with some other 2h builds pvp.
CONCLUSION
I do hereby reclaim my title as the creator of most strange yet effective build! Long live the variant druids!
Have a blast kids, I know you guys will love the official barbarian who wants to be a druid. If you guys really like this guide, I can polish up and put it in the sticky for all the druid haters.
