Unique paladin build here-some suggestions/help wanted.

Greetings, I am making what strikes a resemblence to a Warcraft paladin. I am going to use a big 2 hander maul, and specialize in defensive auras. This is the skill template I have so far.

Max zeal
Max sacrifice
Max fanat
Max prayer
Rest into defiance
1 into every defensive aura (except for the individual resist auras)


This is what I have in mind for items
Weapon: Bloodtree stump. This maul has nice damage, huge crushing blow, even some res all. And it can be upgraded. When I get high enough level, I may give Ik maul a try, and @ 87 cranium basher looks very sweet.

Helm: Guilliames. Nice crushing, deadly strike, FHR, decent def.

Armor: I am going to need the DR without a shield-so Im going to slap on shaftstop and see how it works. Eventually I may upgrade it too.

Belt: Either perf string or xx/15% verdungos. Will probaly test both, but my limited resources may prevent me from getting a good verdungos soon.

Boots: Goreriders. No description needed for these monster boots.

Ammy: 2/2 Seraphs. Perfect amulet for this build without a doubt.

This is all I have figured out for gear so far. I will have an anni, and a bunch of defensive aura charms. 100% crushing blow with a 6 frame zeal with the big maul will be good direct damage, plus I have nice defensive aura backups. Meditation slapped on will be around a good 600%+ mana and over 50 life healed. Defiance, salvation, cleansing, vigor are all good situational auras I will have use for a lot. May or may not put 1 into redemption. I will probaly probaly shael the maul along with a IAS jewel somewhere for a 6 frame zeal. Was also thinking about a nice 120+ resist all shield on switch along with a 6 socket 1 hander with a bunch of elemental damage for areas Ill need them. Oh and Ill probaly throw in like 2 FHR GC's just to get over the 50% breakpoint.

Some comments/suggestions? Also I wanted to make a 'World of warcraft' party, but noone seemed interested in it at all when I posted about it. I want to get a few people that play characters that resemble classes from WoW and see how far we can get through the game. If anyone is interested in that let me know-Ill obviously be being the paladin of the group.

Not truely unique.. sorta lika a Zealot/Medic.. but different. Sounds like fun at any rate.

Since you won't be using a shield, I'd say defiance over prayer (since you'll get hit alot) and preferably some faster hit recovery to reach the 2nd bp.

Your overall equip choice seem fine, although may I suggest using a upgraded Steeldriver (even double upgraded), you can really skip out on alot of Str if you use that, although you might need 110 str for the gore riders anyway. Also, a pair of draculs would help your overall survival alot. Then again, it all depends on wether or not your playing hc, and the need for the extra vit.

And this might not coincide with your concept build, but Conversion also helps alot, especially in hell against boss packs. Just convert 1-3 monsters and you have instant easy access tanking ability.

Hmm well I looked at a lot of the mods on all the unique mauls, and the 50% crushing blow just beats out everything else-cept maybe IK maul when I get to that level. And cranium basher-but thats lvl 87. Maxed prayer before defiance because Im going to be using fanat when Im fighting anyways.. unless the rare instance of another fanat paladin in my party, which probaly wont be often enough to lose some of my good healing abilites.. and to clarify-Im not looking to 'power rush/level' this character and do endless Baal runs-Im looking to play through everywhere with a fun party. (8 people too many though, 3-5 people would problay be the most fun) And about your suggestions-i MIGHT decide to throw 1 into conversion but I dont know yet. And without a shield you have made me realize I should go for that 80-something FHR breakpoint which I will.

Hmm another problem Im now facing-AR. I want to leave dex base being mauls dont need any and Im not using a shield. With max fanat and zeal, would some AR from charms be sufficient?

Might want to get the Angelic ring and amulet?

PS: Not much to add, but I must say it looks like loads of fun, always wanted to make a maul paladin. MAD STYLE POINTS TO YOU! :clap:

Hmm, Ravenfrost adds quite a bit, and you can get some nice rares with ~100 AR and dual leech?

Um, almost all of the defensive auras are one point wonders with enough +skills. Im planning on having at least 11'ish +skills to my defensive tree.

Hey Im on east ladder hardcore, but I want to start this character on softcore, which means Ill be untwinked. I may look for some 100+ar/res all rare rings too, dual ravens doesnt seem like a bad idea either along with a few AR charms here and there, .. hopefully my ar isnt tooo much of a problem

Including Fanat you need 32 IAS to hit 6 frames.

Hmm, can't decide if I want to move to one of the US. servers, I'd love to try the build in CH. ;)
--Tho server swapping would force me to rebuild my D2 economy. :rant:

I haven't started on him yet, as he's still in SP testing stage, leveling it seems will be rather easy due to Holy Shock being a synergy for FoH, or if going for hammers - with hammers, being, well duh, hammers.

Something that'd be awesome, was a 2-hander paly team, that'd look so infinity sweet, well save the occasional Pike amazon teams. :D

Well I only have any items on HC east ladder anyway, and theres no way I want to build this paladin on hc. So I have to start over anyways, I think i may just build up a sorc to like level 60 or 70, and throw topaz gear on and run normal baal. where is CH? on europe?

Jek-my dream gear outfit for this paladin, can you rate it? This is what I had in mind

Weapon: cranium basher, definitly Hel this
Helm: veil of steel, big def,res,str,vit, IAS/res all jewel for this
armor: upped shaftstop, IAS/res all jewel in this
Ammy: seraphs
rings: 1 near perf raven, 1 rare with AR/res all
belt: xx/15 verdungos
gloves: steelrends
boots: upped gores

Should have between 2-3k def with this outfit. 45% dr. res should be around 20-40 in hell. 100% cb, 6 frame zeal. res all shield/elemental dmg weapon on switch.
charms: 1 anni. at least 6 def aura charms, enough FHR from charms for either 48 or 86 breakpoint. Will also need some AR from charms. Want to leave dex at base.

What do you think?

Well, it was designed for pvm, and I didn't create a character for it, but the template was:

Max Zeal
Max Sacrifice
Max Fana
Max (depending on +skills) HS
Rest open

I'd imagine ideal gear would be a good javalin (really, pick what you want), cruel or whatever, with a HoZ. A shaftstop for the DR /w shako for the looks and its mods. Charge would be used to chase, and I'd imagine using two Angelic rings for the Ar and the replenish, Highlords and gores (for obvious reasons), bloodfist, and any sort of belt. Any bow does, although Kuko and WF are pretty tempting. Anyway, it was supposed to be a pvm build and I imagine, would be quite fun to play (being able to use a bow, melee with zeal, and throw your melee weapon at things). Patented build :)

I definitly got our healing and defensive buffing taken care of along with a good physical beatdowner, although I will be kind of fragile myself. We could use a tank, a sorc, and then another specialized character of some sort. Right now im on east hc ladder.
