well.. i believe shout would be better. when playing in parties it would not only benefit you like ironskin + i think it gives more defense.. not sure though.
u can start dumping into ironskin when all your other skills(including shout) are maxed.

If you could afford to max both that would give you a ton of defence. But a high level shout combined with a low level iron skin will give you a better boost than a high level iron skin with a low-level shout.

past one point in each, both give you the same amount of defense per level. the benefits of shout are 1) it helps your party, and 2) each point also gives a greater duration to shout, bo, and battle command. since the they give you the same def per point invested, and since shout has these two benefits over iron skin, it is better to put points into shout.

Likewise, each point of shout gives +10% damage to berserk, which you need a point of anyways.

Besides:

level 20 ironskin = 220%
level 20 shout = 290%

Might as well get your extra 70%.

Well after 1 point in both it doesn't matter which one you max for the defense boost itself. As both skills get 10% def per lvl. The only 2 advantages of maxing shout over ironskin is more duration for BO and Bcommand , and that your party will benefit from it too.

True, but it's still better to have 1 point in iron and a longer duration for shout, than 20 in skin and a short-duration shout ;)

The key here is that if you're going for defense, you have at least 1 point in iron skin.

this is off topic but it my barb not suited for pvp? he has 146 base stre.

Shout would be better to max first. It helps groups, And is a synergy to other important skills.

My barb has a base str of 105, his str with everything on is 3** something i cant remember. Lower str needed = more vita :P It just depends on the items you need.

I could of actually cut his str to 77 and had it worked out but hey o well. When i remake him to be statistically perfect (wich ill never do im to busy) then ill have a bit more hp heh.

The only way is to do 1 iron skin and the rest in shout. Until then, leave iron skin at one, but do that one point for sure (nobody mentioned that clearly) because it'll do about 100% extra defense after +skills with 1 point instead of a 10% add for shout. 1 and only 1 unless you maxed shout and need more defense/got plenty of spare points.
