how does it work in PvP? does it blind other players, lower their defense and raises yours?
if so, are there any caps to the defense raising and lowering properties of CoS?

players screens will turn dark (just like yours) but they won't be neccessarily blind and yes the +def and -def bonuses work and no I don't believe there is a cap. If you do a search I'm sure more interesting threads will pop up (maybe this is even in the FAQ =/) I can't remeber if CoS was deemed too effective for PvP I'd still use it anyway as its bound to help :) (hmm I remeber people saying that CoS -'s def% so lets say you had a baba with 1000% enchanced defence - through shout and iron skin [not really a realistic ammount but easy to deal with] and then lets say CoS is of a level where it does -100% enemy defence then that barb will still have +900% enchanced defence). But anyway I'm sure this has been discussed before in more detail - please do a search (far more useful than listening to my babbling)

Cloak of Shadows
No there are not caps or diminishing returns to CoS. It will keep going up with more points put into it. The reason people don't normally put a lot of points into it is because the timer before it can be recast goes up with more points into it(which also means the effects last longer), but at higher levels you'll have killed all the monsters on the screen affected and want to affect the next batch and be unable. -- This affect works for you in PvP however where you don't want to recast Cloak very often.
The caveat is that I'm not sure how helpful this would be in PvP. Its significant extra defense, but most assassins have pretty poor base defense to multiply with the CoS. Thus its not making you impossible to hit, and their are other classes that are far better and getting insanely high defense requirements.
Second Caveat, it may not make other uber defensive classes that much easier to hit. I don't know if it subtracts % defense increases or if it is a negative multiplier.
I just a quick test with my upcoming DTaloner and my Zealot - lost maybe a bit over 1k defense from lvl9 CoS, so it's rather useless when you're dealing with ~20k+ defense...

But even still, their screen darkens. It will make it infinitely difficult for a teleporter to keep track of you if they can't see ****!

I also find the darkened screen helps hide traps e.g. lets say my DTaloner can't get a stun lock down on a tough melee char I may run away and when they approach hit CoS and lay down a few traps, traps are damn hard to see without CoS but with; you won't know that they are there untill they fire which (if you have set them up correctly) is too late. Also if your using fade and CoS you becomme practicaly invisible and the enemy has to just go off on radar (they can no longer do both) and this makes it more difficult for them to click on you. I think CoS has its uses for PvP (but not really for the +def -def abilities :)).
