View Full Version : Help a Pally build a Zon ;)
K, I'm sick of pallys...I think I've made 14 now, pvm and pvp.
Well I actually found a 198 Eth Titans, so now I'm thinking of making a Javazon. I've read as much as possible, but still have questions ;)
So my thoughts are a melee PvP Lightning Javazon...
1) Are these effective pvp characters? Looking at the skills, I'm assuming one would want to use charged strike? Any pvp stickers help me out here...
2) Stat distributions...pretty similar to pallys? I noticed they gain the same life-per-level and the same 3 life per vit point pallys do, so I'm assuming 3000+ life is possible? At first glance, I'm thinking no, cuz it looks like they'll need a lot more dex to max block not having holy shield...
3) Exactly what do d/a/e counter? Some said they avoid other attacks...do they dodge smite, hammers, or bone spells? Or do these d/a/e skills just get you into trouble in pvp with excess animations?
4) Is Impale a good skill? For those that stack lightning in pvp/LI's in pvm? Looking at it, it's bonuses are huge...200% in damage and AR more than charge. As in, at level 42 (where I plan to have my java skills), it's a whopping 1125% AR bonus and 1325% damage bonus. Combine that with a high level CS, I'm thinking it would hurt? I'm assuming that durability thing is no issue with an eth Titans...correct me if I'm wrong.
In a nutshell, I'm thinking of maxing charged strike, lightning strike, lightning fury, and impale, with a point in penetrate, everything else in crit strike. Unless d/a/e is more helpful than harmful in pvp, then I'll adjust.

1. They do quite a lot of damage, but it is rather difficult to play as a CS Amazon in public games. If you're dueling in a private setting then these characters are incredible.
2. They gain the same life/level, but as you said, it costs a WHOLE lot more to get max blocking.
4. While it looks good on paper, Impale is much too slow in practice to be any bit effective against any character. Durability would not be that great of an issue.

i thought it was the other way around for pubby/priv dueling. .cuz in priv dueling people will use 4 ptopaz shields and absorb to negate the lightning dmg while in pubby the people are too lazy to switch gears constantly so they die easier, or am i wrong?

Pubby players are usually ranged characters (Necromancers, Paladins, ~Wind Druids) that either do a ton of damage or lock you up at close range. Even with max resistances, CS can still do quite a bit of damage. 5 - 3213 damage with 9 bolts (+12 skills) with only two synergies completed is nothing to sneeze at. It does about 700 average damage with 95% resistances, if all 9 bolts hit.

Impale may look good, and probably IS good if you actually land a hit, but it is sooo incredibly slooooow that you will never hit anything in a pvp environment.
D/A/E: I use a Tankazon which is built specifically for pvm (+ dam to demons and undead equipment), because of space considerations the only equipment change I make for pvp is to swap my Laying of Hands for Dracul's Grasp. Iirc, because of + skill items, she has 20+ in each of these skills (I think its 28, 25, 23 but I can't check because my cd dive is dead :(). These are the core skills of a Tankazon and allow for some amazing feats, frequently leading to people saying "FFS STOP DODGING!!!!!". While it does not dodge Smite, because that always hits, it is possible (but not frequently so) to MELEE a Hammerdin to death. I have even once retrieved my body while a Hammerdin camped on it hammering away. WW barbs are so used to killing in one WW that they tend to cry when they still havn't landed a blow after the sixth WW. I have beaten Bone Necros by knocking down BP while dodging spears (one of the most cowardly tactics around). Teleporting sorcs (and whatever else these days) are a problem, as they are for any melee char, but still beatable with slow missiles and some luck. I can dodge lvl 20+ multi shot and Teeth. The only char that I have never killed is a lightning zon, maybe some absorb might be useful but I very much doubt it. Now this is my character, she uses a sword so has her own issues to deal with (while I have never had a real problem with it, there is a slow blocking bug with sword zons), and does not do a great deal of damage. I didn't build this char for pvp so I rate success as survivability, the time it takes for certain characters to beat me and whether I can successfully kill them, even once, when they are going all out.
For you, however, I would expect that maxed Jab and CS (with its synergies) would make you a formidable opponent indeed with near maxed D/A/E (they have harsh diminishing returns after about lvl 14). D/A/E DO interrupt whatever you are doing at the time that it kicks in, however, so you have to weigh up the benefits with the risks here. Jab should be fast enough for you to get a few hits in before your D/A/E or block kicks in though.
Anyway they're my experiences with, and thoughts on, the matter, I'm sure others can give you better more precise advice.
will ur jab ahve enough ar to hit barbs and pallies? doesnt look like jab gives too much ar bonuses =/

I was kinda goin on the theory that max penetrate was a given, I mean if I can hit and kill barbs and palas with a sword, a javazon certainly can especially with equip like Ravenfrost or Angelic rings, maybe a demonlimb on switch. Inner sight can also help if you have the time to cast it. I cannot (unless I am VERY lucky) do a 1 hit kill, but I have the luxury of max+ D/A/E, the average javazon with jab or Charged Strike (which is what I meant with CS, sorry about any confusion) seems only to need 1 hit.
oooo ok penetration clears everything :) thanks
for ur skill distribution. did maxing jab riase the damage significantly? some people call it a 1 point wonder.. if so woudlnt maxing another synergy be best? (no offense im not critisizing.. just trying to develop a good build with uguys)
Ok cool...so impale suxors ;)
Hmm...I need SOMETHING to beat stackers, though. Frankly, a simple GA and TGods is all that's needed to counter charged strike.
I mean, if each bolt DID 3500...well, 3500 in pvp is 595. Against 95% resists, that's 29 damage per bolt. TGod's absorbs 20...net result is they heal 11 points per bolt. And I KNOW this is how it works, cuz that's exactly what my pally does in pvp...puts on GA and Tgods, and lets trappers or lightning zons heal me.
So what other skill? Jab?
Oh, and Soker, that is good to hear that bone spells and hammers can be dodged. My question now then is, exactly which one of these skills is responsible for that?? From what I can decipher from Arreats, it's Evade that gives a passive bonus to avoiding spells? Is this true (as in, dodge and avoid do nothing for making bone and hammer spells miss?)?
ya i know atcha mean.. i saw impale and i was like o_O and had ideas much similar to urs but i moved on. i think jab isnt worth maxing imo cuz its more of a 1 point wonder. i doubt the dmg will raise significantly and those skill points can be invested in more passive skills which can save ur life in pks but if u have left overs then i guess adding it into jab wont hurt
awts ur build again?
