View Full Version : Socketing M'avinas set
Hi there..
I'm playing a zon that use M'avinas set. The attack skills i use is : Freezing arrow - Multi shot - Guided arrow.
Non of the items is socked yet, and i found this nice juwel with 26 to max dmg.
Now i wonder if it's totally a waste to sock that juwel in m'avinas set (in any of the items)?
I'm pretty happy with the set, but i have some mana leech problems. I don't have that much mana leech (12%) and i probably should get some more, but i do think it could be better if i did some more phs dmg or am i way off when i think like that??
My main question is regarding that juwel. The other 2socks will probably be used to reach some bp. Since i have 70% allready from the set, and i will get 20% more from juwel i'm at 90%. Haven't checked the breakpoints yet, but i'll search the forum for that..
Cheers

You're right about your mana steal, it is based on physical damage and 12% is pretty good. You may need more at lower levels, or if you don't do much physical damage. Be aware that you can't mana steal from certain monsters such as skeletons and ghosts.
The attack speed breakpoints are more important for Strafe Bowazon builds, but faster attack speed is always nice. What seems to be the most popular (or best within achievable* range) for a Strafezon is getting the 9/2 breakpoint, which you will need 120% IAS if using a 10 WSM bow (like M'avina's). However, since you don't use Strafe, there's no point in getting 9/2 instead of 9/3... Which I think you get at 90%, I may be off though.
Your jewel is decent, but I would probably aim for a jewel with a second mod myself, or maybe a rune depending on what I needed.

Hehe.. Like that last comment.. So basicly.. I should aim for 90% and not use that juwel.. But i'm not that rich and would problably not be able to get any über runes. But i could shael the bow and that's leave me with diadem and armor to socket. I could use a cold facet in it for more cold dmg and less res on the monsters, but i'm pretty satisfied with the cold dmg, so that leaves me with adding phy dmg in that 2sockets.. Would ed juwels be a better choice than a max juwel like the one i listed.. got some 35+% ed juwels, but none with 2nd mods..

Shael is always a good choice. Depending on how much damage your bow does, +%ED jewels might be better for you. I find that in most cases it is. As for über runes, I like to keep those for making runewords rather than stuffing them in random sockets. Unless I won't be taking said socketed thing off, ever... ;)

That 26 Max damage jewel has a 2nd mod already ... the most you can get on a max dam prefix is +15 and most on a suffix is +15 so your jewel has both :) It is a nice jewel indeed and could be worth socketing in your Mavs set since it gives just what your build needs. One of the generally acknowledged weaknesses of the Mav's set is the fairly low physical damage of the bow.
As Yumi says it is physical damage that leechs mana back and you can boost that by hitting harder and by hitting more often. I find War Trav boots give a very nice boost to a zon's bow damage. Try adding some "sharp" charms with the +max damage and +%AR mods. I have a nice ring that gives leech and +9 min damage so look out for similar. And as you boost your Dexterity stat you'll find that increases damage and accuracy.

For his particular build shael is the best option in my opinion since that reaches the 90% IAS and gives a 9 frame shooting rate with MS, GA and FA and only uses 1 socket. He'd need 2 IAS jewels to get same shooting rate ... and the difference between 10 frame and 9 frame shooting is effectively 10% more damage over time.

Oops yeah, sorry there. I was a little fast on that one, I'm afraid. :scared: I guess I'm too demanding when it comes to jewels, always wanting more mods. :innocent:

What I meant when I said that the +%ED jewels might be better, is that they would be better than +max damage jewels. Not the Shael. :) Shael is wise, Shael is good. That said, I've already agreed that the jewel he currently has of +26 max damage is nice. He has a few slots to fill though, so those +%ED jewels will probably come in handy. :)

Bah, I forgot to mention amulets :(
If you can get hold of a Cat's Eye or Highlords amulet they would be a better way to get to 90 %IAS than the shael and both would boost your mana leech indirectly. The highlords would be particularly good with it's deadly strike.

~Yumi%ED jewels are good if on the bow as they boost both max and min damage of the basic bow. A 40%ED jewel would add 40% of the Grand Matron bow base damage of 14 to 72 so that would be about 6 min and 28 max which is an average of 17 bow damage. This bow damage is obviously boosted by dexterity, might aura and critical strike ect...
%ED damage jewels are not a good choice for armour or helm though as they only add %ED like Dexterity and not to bow damage. The 26 Max damage jewel will add to max damage whereever it is placed. So I would tend to put it into the Diadem since that could then be used easilly on other builds (if desired) and the jewel is too nice for being resricted to the armor.
The bow socket is in some senses more valuable than the other sockets since it gives other useful options ... shael (if no 20% IAS amulet is being used), nef rune for Knockback, perfect skull for dual leech, the %ED jewel or Ohm rune (for the effect mentioned above).
Hope that helps... it is complicated and I tend to get carried away :)

Thanks alot for the help. It really helped me i think.
So this is how i think i will do it :
Bow sock - Ed juwel or even perfect skull for some more leech.
Helm sock - Max juwel
Armor sock - up for suggestions, but things i don't need is res and ias.
Amu - highlords
Boots - Using Nat's boots, but will change to WT.
Rings - Raven and Manhald (will be changed if i put a PS in bow or find a nice either dual leech or mana leech ring)
That would leave me with 90% ias and descent res (around 40-50 res all without charms) and some leech. The dmg would be abit higher also..
Any comment about this?
Cheers

wow so there is such thing as a +30 max dmg jewel. would that spawn as magic or rare? What would the char lvl requirements be? I have been collecting +15 max damage jewels, i have made a 3 soc Mask +45 max damage available at L18!. (I am making gear to rush myself through normal)
So theoretically I could find a 3 soc mask and fill it with +30 max jewels for +90!. But I think the clvl would require L 50 or so I bet.
I want to make armor as well, does anyone know what the lowest srt/clvl require armor spawns with 4 sockets? (4x 15 max jewels @ L 18)

Gothic Plate, Req Str = 70, Req Lvl = None.

hmm. k well then there is such thing as a 4 soc Ghost Armor, it has a 38 str requirement and a clvl req of 20. Since I have a clvl req of 18 on the plain +15max jewel, then that would seem the most ideal.
Should I look for a 4 soc Ghost Armor in late NM somewhere?
Can I socket a white Ghost Armor for the 4 sockets using the cube somehow. or must I use my larzuk quest for that?
Where is the best place to find more plain +15max damage jewelz?
I just think it would be sweet on many character builds to have +90 max damage at lvl 20.

I Nef'd my bow, 30max in the diadem and 15ias in the armor. Gonna go 15max/15ias in the armor as soon as I find one. If I find another close to 30max, I'll put that in the armor because I don't use strafe and the ias didn't seem to do me much good.

Ghost armor can have only 2 sockets and is Req Level 22.
Dusk Shroud can have 4 sockets but has Req Level 49.
Thus, best low level would still be that Gothic Plate I mentioned earlier.
Thanks for bringing up that socket question.
Having another 40 lv to go until I can use my set, and my only ED jewel is a 23% ed, 19% fire res one, I was more thinking along the lines of getting 15 IAS in armour and helm, 20 IAS from Cats eye or Highlords and Nef the bow.
Thats 120 IAS if I got it right, and knockback..which I learned to love on my Strafer.
Then again, I already build a WWS Strafer that uses FA as second skil...and I should try MS this time..in which case much less IAS might be okay..
..decisions...decisions..
