Its alright, its a nice smite shield that it is, but Herald of Zakarum is much better w/ its better stats and it does alot of smite damage when upped

Why would it not be? a perfect alma with +2 skills gives a hefty AR% bonus and 7x% enhanced damage is nothing to sneeze at plus it has good blocking, defense and low reqs.. And he asked if its good for melee dueling u dont need resists in that.

yes, it is good for melee dueling. decent defense, nice smite damage, plus skills, big ar and damage boost, etc. It is a fine shield for melee. Yes, there can be better for melee dueling. I myself prefer stormshield because of its 35 dr, but it is a good choice if you don't have a stormshield or need the other mods. If you use it, I highly suggest a shaftstop for damage reduced. Have fun!

Why would you upgrade an ethereal piece of armor? :/ it loses the ethereal bonuses but keeps the bad parts.

does an eth alma negra have more smite damage then a non eth one?

no, but defense increases and durability decreases, and you can't repair it.
