View Full Version : To all PvP Sorceress
I'm having difficulties deciding which character I should go for .. A fireball sorc or a lightning sorc. Both are good with their respected skills, dealing out deadly damage. I've seen both sub-classes in action. They're pretty basic for the gear and skill distribution. But, which one can handle 'most' character classes ... without having to switch gear (i.e: ss for barbs, or t-gods for trappers)? I'd like a sorc that would only rely on one gear, seeing that switching is very annoying.
well, if you dont want to switch, use ss as your basic gear, but u would have to forgo fcr and +1 skills (referring to lidless). If you want to handle 'most' char, go for cold sor. it is less likely to be negated, but like all chars, you need to practise and practise, read and read to know how to use each different type of chars efficiently and effectively. :)
awjl: not to offend anyone, but i'm tired of the cold sorc (orb). I've made one during the 1.09 days (like everyone else), and they just seem dull to me now. I would like to hear a new sound coming from a sorc other than that shattering ice noise.
I would go with the lightning.
Negateing a 45k lightning bolt is alot harder than negating a 20k fireball. First of all, not that many duelers have wisps. Second of all it is just a TON of damage to resist. The single best sorc I ever dueled was a Lightning/ES build. As for being able to handle all classes without switching gear...you should be able to kill them with insane lightning damage before they can do too much.
Plus you have the coolness factor of not being mainstream fireball sorc. Not to mention that awesome TS bolt.
Hmm...now I want to make one.

just wondering, how do u hit 45k lightning?
Fireball sorc with 1 into eshield maxed telekinesis, facet whitstans guard, hoto, faceted shako, perf vipermagi faceted, arach, magefist, maras, waterwalks, resist and fire charms, 100 base vita rest into energy 1 mana = >2 life with max telekensis, sojs, hoto
4 perfect light facet shields are fun. Friend of mine uses that along with alot of plus skills to get 45k. perf facet in helm also. I can't recall other gear but I know its possible.

1 or 2 shots kill? you must be kidding me for my own sorc without any absorb and changing to res gear, 10k blizzard need 4 hits to kill my sorc.... :surprise:

imo: blizz sorcs are boring because they tend to play defensively

not me gg ice blasted. gg corner blocked.
Ok, I have decided to go lightning sorc ... Now, again, the question is .. to go with ES or not. I don't like the fact that ES could kill your mana with basically one hit. But it can also save your life at certain times. Maybe I should just rely on my teleporting for defense? I'm not planning to tank anything and sit there (unless I know for sure i can win).

Ive researched this subject lately also. Ive been told from some pretty godly sorcs to ALWAYS go with 1 pnt into ES and 16 pnts into Telekenisis. Even if it means sacrificing some dmg, they say this is best.
I.E. With my Fire sorc, ive been told to max fire ball, the synergies, and only 1 pnt fire mastery (since it gives the least % inc), make sure I get my 16 pnts TK and 1pnt ES....THEN go back later (post lvl 80) and keep maxxing fire mastery.

k well the 45k if it is possible you would have to have flawless gear and sacrafice many things like fcr and life, so thats basicly a weak sorc.
uh 2nd light sorcs are ok but no one seemed to mention that even with a "45k" max damage you've got like a 5-10damage minimum, so even someone with a little resist/absorb can make a lot of the attacks weak or even heal them a little.
Now after saying all this I'm going to completly contradict myself and say that if you don't want to go with a blizz sorc to go with a lighting sorc over fireball.
toader:: Yeah, I heard to do that with ES (1pt + 15 or so into TK). I've read the ES sticky on Sorceress forums, but I still dont get how much damage I will recieve and how much of my mana will drain. I wouldnt want something to completely drain my mana (which in this case, i'll be sure as dead).
Ok, I made up my friends lightning sorc as close as I remember to test in sp. It doesn't quit make 45k but its pretty close. Here are the stats and skills and equip:
Lvl 94 (thats his lvl)
2446 life after bo(no block)
1k mana after bo
7-42k lightning damage(21k average with some fun 42k bolts of death and some wimpy 7 damage sparks)
1718-2430 TS damage(not much but hey at least its not 1-2430, plus it just looks cool)
1 teleport
1 in all prereqs
1 warmth
1 TS
max nova
max chainlightning
max lightning
max charged bolt
max light mastery
Gear-
15percent light skill/16 lower res griffon eye with 5/5 facet
Maras
2 sojs
archon chains of honor
20 percent light skill/3skils/40fc eschutas with 5/5 facet
4 sock monarch with 4 5/5 light facets
arachnid mesh
magefists
silkweaves
6 battle orders cta in crystal sword
10 light skill charms with 30-40 life(made mine 35 for testing)
20 stat anni
20 mana sc x9( I think he just uses mana pots but I don't like carrying them around so I just added mana with charms)
You can go make this char for yourself in sp if you want to test.
As for the sacrificing gear...I don't see too much sacrifice considering alot of sorcs use ss and they seem to teleport just fine. Using this gear you get 105 fast cast. If you use viper with 5/5 facet then you can hit 135. Yes, some of the gear is pretty hard to find. This sorc will not be a tank but the whole point is to kill them before they can kill you. Lightning does have nice range for that although aiming is tricky. I havn't tested how well it does vs 85 res and tgods but I will later and post it here. If you want to add in Energy Shield its going to cost you some damage but it might work out to be better, I don't know.
Have fun with lightning sorc. It is far from weak. I havn't dueled with it yet but frying fallen is just plain fun. If I left something out let me know.
Yeah, a lot of the things you mentioned are pretty expensive -_-... however, I will try to manage and obtain those items 'sigh'. I probably won't be using Chains of Honor, since I see Vipermagi a VERY GOOD substitute (for a lot cheaper too). So far, I have a Griffons Eye (24/15 - 5/5 facet .. traded 3% bk ring for it =) ]. I have an Ohm rune to spend, hopefully, that'll get me at least the orb/belt/ammy.

when i type cold sor. It's blizzard sor. Not orb sor. orb is pretty useless now.

my advise on pvp is not to use es. if you ever want to use es. make sure 1) es is at 95%, 2) teleke is max 3) massive amounts of mana.
i end up laughing in front of my computer when es sor got killed by my fire sor, or i see es sor that end up unable to tele after mana lost by a ts sor.

mmm...well...u dont need 95% es, mines at 69% and it works pretty well for me, plus ES can save u from foh, melee, and magical attacks

oh... these people cant kill you b'cos of es?? strange... their foh so weak? melee chars also so little damage? and magical damage attacks... they purposely test your es is it? Sometimes i use my third skills to pvp others too, when i know it's sure win for me...

are you implying that i pick on the weak and the not so well duelers? im just saying ES does save ur life from a lot of different attacks and is a great skill to use if you can afford it...
