View Full Version : Damage Reduction : How it works ?
Does anybody knows anything about the "Damage Reduced By ..." stat ?
Reducet per what ? Per hit , per second , per frame ?
Does it work in PvP ?
Which gear gives the biggest amount of dmg reduced ? What the biggest amount i can get during the game ?
Someone who knows please , give me an advance!
Tnx to all.

I belive max DR is 50%.As for exactly how it works i can not say , but i can say that if your dueling or taking lots of physical damage your gonna love having the cap DR.
Damage reduced by X is one of the first steps in damage resolution, which means it can actually be very good. I suggest you read the Zarhrezz Energy Shield Sorc guide for a full and very good explanation. I copied some of it here:
The power of Energy Shield and importance of Telekinesis become more profound when looking at the damage resolution order. If damage is inflicted on a character, certain steps are resolved in a specific order before final life loss is determined and applied. For us, the following steps are of importance:
Energy Shield: This is where the damage is redirected by Energy Shield and mana loss due to Energy Shield occurs.
Damage Reduced by X/Magic Damage Reduced by X: The damage that is not redirected by Energy Shield is reduced by the appropriate amount and possibly nullified.
Resistances: Resistances are applied. This phase does not just include the resistances listed in the character screen (Fire/Cold/Lightning/Poison) but also Magical damage and Physical damage (gained from equipment like Shaftstop). This phase is also where curses like Lower Resist, Amplify Damage and Decrepify are applied, as is Conviction.
X% absorb: %-wise absorb is applied here. I won't go into details here, since we aim to avoid this phase.
+X absorb: See above.
Damage Goes to Mana: Mana is gained based on the amount of damage still left at this point.
Ouch: Damage is applied to life.
Mana Burn: Technically not part of the damage resolution, but part of the hit resolving that occurs after damage resolution. I mention it here to indicate that it will not take down Energy Shield before Energy Shield gets the chance to redirect the damage.
So this means, that in PvM, you can essentially get to a point where you take little to no physical damage, but for PVP, its worthless, because so much gets by DR% anyway, taking 20 or so off does not even matter. Add to that max resists, and you get a dude that can tank a fanatic-MSLE-fire enchanted boss pack of hell gloams and dolls at the same time by himself!

per hit, which sometimes is per sec or per frame. most burn damage (eg. meteor, firewall) is per frame. however, phys damage rarely is (which is the only element dam reduce affects.)
theoretically, you can make yourself immune to phys damage by packing on the dam reduce gear. however, there are only a limited number of slots, so this stops working for a certain damage amount.

Tnx for advance :worship: , i think about gear that may give me the desired immunity :spy:
Gladiator's Bane armor: It gives 15-20 phys and magic dmg reduced
Gerke's Sanctuary shield: Almost same
String Of Ears belt : same
3 quest sockets ( additional to stuff's sockets) with sol or mal runes - 21 dmg redused.
helm and amu with " Life Everlasting" suffix - about 40- 50 dmg reduced.
All this is about 100-120 dmg reduced per hit
The average dmg of monsters on hell is about 150-200 HP. sounds good no ?
Barb With such gear will become unstoppable !!!
What do u think ?
Thanks alot.

it's very easy to make yourself nearly immune to phys nowadays:
75% defense = 25% chance to hit.
75% blocking = 25% chance X (1-75%) = 6.25% chance to hit
45% damage reduce (stormshield + harle) = 6.25% X (1-45%) = 4.1%
the dam reduce bt X path is very inefficient, and leaves gaping holes in your resists, absorbs, and offense.

Nalchik- Damage reduced by X combined with damage reduced by X% is a great combination for PvP as well as PvM, seeing as how all damage is 1/4 in PvP. If you reach the damage reduced by 50% cap that reduces the physical damage you take to 1/8, and then that is when damage reduced by X comes into play. this is then subtracted from what is left,
Ex: say a barb hits you, he does 4000 damage. First you take the PvP penalty into effect so 2000/4 = 500, then the Damage reduced by X% comes into play, saying you have the 50% cap that further reduces your damage taken to 250. Then the Damaged reduced by X comes into play, and using the equipment you said would take another 120 off of that 250 - 120 = 130
So you see it can help alot but it is far more useful for PvM than PvP because of the huge amonts of damage given out in PvP, you will want max resists which would be hard to achieve with this setup. It would be good for melee attackers but if you came up against a elemental sorc or even a beserker barb you are pretty much toast.
Hope this clears anything up you wanted to know, let me know if you need to know anything else ill see what i can do
