View Full Version : Personalize question
Does anyone know how to remove the name from a personalized item?
As a side note....anyone know of any advantages to personalizing an item?
thanks
You can't, and there aren't any.
That's why I justpersonalize that last cracked buckler I found, and sell it back to her.
Aww you guy's are no fun.You can get rid of that name but you will have to replace it with yours. There are some good things about doing this aswell. After you get you charecter finished and dont plan on changing gear custimize it ALL with your sweet name you will have your own set!!!! uber!!! :flip: :flip: :flip: have fun.
I seem to remember it not replacing a name, but adding another. I think I did that once with a rare circlet.
well, one advantage is that the item loses 100000000% of its value.
i mean who wants to buy a perfect botd with the XXSUPERAZNPKMANPKPKPKXX's botd.....

I very rarely go after Nihlathak, so the question dosen't pop up often. That said, I will personalize items that come to have a special place in my heart.
For example, I own an Ashwood bow, "Pain Song" that started as a stag bow with something like 15-35 damage. It wasn't much, but it was the best bow my soon-to-be strafer had found at that point (about level 20). I figured I would get a better bow soon enough.
I don't trade often, and I never beg; sometimes my luck isn't good.
I finally got that better bow nearly two months later, when my then level 50 strafer had finally built the Amn rune I needed to cube Pain Song into an Ashwood Bow.
Not long thereafter, I finished the nightmare Anya quest and got a bow nearly twice as good as the Ashwood Pain Song. I naturally started using the other bow, but the quest to upgrade Pain Song had taken so long and become such a focus, I couldn't just toss it.
So now another of my zons is using Glory_Argentum's Pain Song. :)

Nameing funny things is great as well. Like my crafted zerker axe, "Its_WilliamHung's Cruel Song - Beserker Axe"
they axe, she's not all that great, but there is a little ED% on her, so all in all I'd say she bangs. :)

It depends WHO personanize items.
I NEED THRUGG´s SHORT SWORD. OFFER GODLY!!!
Now..If you are bored, here is what you do. Make throwaway character and rush to normal Nihlathak. Personalize gear and repeat until all of your gear has same name.
All kinds of corporations do this and get lots of cash from customers who will pay hard earned mony to advertize said corporations.
If you do this enough you will get brand recognition, then you can sell your gear all over the place. Just think, hundreds of DII players offering all kinds of godly gear for your "(your name here) cracked sash" just because of your marketing skills.

For trade; "cookeds' cracked mage plate"; iso ladder sojs, 'anni' charms, or vex rune.
My friend and I, back in our days of n00bish D2 naivete, wanted to start up an ebay store. We've since become non-lame, but one of the ideas we had was to create a character named Bill and personalize a bunch of Bills (exceptional voulge), to make Bill's Bill. Unfortunately, Bill was taken. Also, no one would have bought the damn things anyway.
I'd personalize items that are extremely rare.
Items you know no one will throw away, and would care less who's name is on it. Thus your character becomes immortal in a sense.
For example: I found a perfect 30% cold dmg deaths fathom, i then put a 5/5 cold facet in it. Its such a rare and perfect item i should put my name on it.
