Thinking of starting a Barb clan/group... thoughts? [Archive]

Hello all, I've been toying w/ the idea of creating a kind of Barb clan or maybe just a group so we don't all have 2 build new chars w/ some dumb prefix or suffix on the name. It would be open to ALL barb builds, but it would be strictly PvP. WW barbs, Conc barbs, Zerkers, Throwers, u name it. Anyway I want input from ppl such as the interest level in something like this, ideas for rules (such as which items r BM etc...). Just post anything u want here. At the very least we should create a "Barb Temple" like they have on the paly forum... then ppl could just post that "barbtemple" is up (or call it something else...) and then ppl could go and duel. Any thoughts on this? Advice?

havent got any advice but it u get it running i'd bring my frenzy baba along for a quick death :D i think it would be cool, seeing as i'm new giive me a chance to meet some of the barb community and get some ideas from them and play a good game of d2 at the same time. so count me in if it works out :)
That actually was great advice lol! Bringing the barb community closer is good idea and would give ppl of all skills a chance 2 duel and learn (god willing everyone will get amazing and the duels will b extraordinary ;)). Like u said, it would just be about playing a good game of d2. Btw does anyone have any thoughts on 290s? They are highly debatable, I figure if someone says no 2 poison, just take them off... if they yes, then go nuts (I don't use poison, but I don't want ppl to feel limited :thumbsup: ).

I think this sounds like a great idea, I Think it should definitly should just be a Dueling Group as opposed to a "clan" b/c for the most part ppl think that clans are mainly a scam anyhow and this would keep ppl (if just a little) from thinking that this was a scam in ahyway. I have played from time to time in Temple before and I lov how it is set up, so lets do something similiar to that. I think if we did do that it would help the barb community out so much. with the coming of the patch the Pally became the "number 1" melee PvPer in alot of ppls opinion, and the barbs have been slightly cast aside by the Pally. So this would help educate ppl on how cool a Barb could be and a place to learn The Fine Art of Dueling...

In otherwords count me in...

No worries there... sounds like we'll end up w/ our own "barb temple" game hehe. Also ppl plz post ur opinions on which items should or should not be allowed... hell, even if ur post says "allow ALL items, even BM ones" then post it, nobodys gonna get shouted at, I just want input.

Well to recap:
It will be temple style (lets think of an eZ 2 remember name for it :)).
ALL barb types will b allowed, provided they are PvP oriented.

Things I will not tolerate:
racism (any kind, even joking)
bringing other char types other than barbs into our game (wolfbarbs r still barbs so those r totally find).
No flaming, no *****ing, no whining, no moaning (well, unless ur horribly slaughtered then I suppose some moaning is ok lol).
ABSOLUTELY NO SPAMMING!

Things 2 think about:
Any items that should be considered BM?
Should we have a channel up 24/7? (We'd need someone w/ a bot)
do we want to list everyone on this page who signs up just so we can keep track of #s?

When I feel there are enough ppl who r committed to this, then I'll create a "temple" thread (we still need a eZ name for it). Hopefully a MODERATOR will STICKY it for us... if not just post when u got a game up.

Keep the ideas coming (btw none of these r set in stone, I'm just trying to quickly hurl together wut has been said so far, I'm totally open to change).

Ok, looks like I may end up posting a list of ppl since the group idea is getting responses :). Once again, it will NOT be a clan, just a list of players posted here. Also since u want, plz post anything u feel r BM or that u do not want to put up with? Also do u think aside from what I already posted we need 2 add anything to the rules of etiquette?

Thanks for the interest, with a few more ppl signed up on east, looks like this thing is going to get off the ground after all. I still think we should do it temple style, but if this is just gonna be a group then maybe a priv password that each of us would know and NOT share w/ others unless they sign up to join would b a good idea. I don't want to make this 2 formal though. Anyone have thoughts/suggestions on this? Keeping it simple yet allowing for a broad base of ppl to play in the group? Lemme know...

Of course ill be there :P, as for the bm portion:

Hacked items (which really arent a probablem yet) (Dont know if this includes glitched items or not, but glitched should be debated)
Maybe like a psn cap like 300 psn damage cap (cant really say no psn cause some ppl may use crafts that do like 50 psn dam over 4 seconds)

But other than then I really cant think anything

i'd be down to join the group but seems like all the ppl interested are from east.

for restrictions on dueling, i only duel ww barbs so there really is no such thing as bm for me. for me a ww barb can use anything except for psn and items with charges for skills like lifetap/ampdmg/etc.

I would be down for something like this, I've got a couple frenziers on non-ladder west and i just starting on the east ladder. I have just one question: WHAT IS TEMPLE? People are talking about how great it is and i don't have the slightest clue. Also, i say poison dmg on equip is OK but no sc's.

Now I'll have to make seperate lists for each realm adn whether they r nl or Ladder... no biggie :).

To respond 2 whoever it was who asked about temple, Temple is a game that is usually up in the paladin forum. Someone creates a game titled Temple or temple2 etc and puts a pass on the game that everybody involved w/ temple knows. Then ppl go and duel there (it's semi private) and they r restricted to just bringing palys and playing by a set of rules agreed upon on the thread. Check out the paly forum, there is a thread titled something like "the temple is up". Also u post wut realm it is up on (east, west, europe etc.) and whether it is nL or Ladder (there can be more than 1 temple up @ a time, hence temple2///wutever etc.).

Concerning Poison: We should definately have more input on this. As far as I'm concerned ppl can go nuts w/ poison IF the other player says it is ok in advance... so it would have 2 be mutual (I personally consider poison BM and don't use it, but I'm open if others wish 2 use it...). I doubt we can really set a poison "cap" if we allow it because obviosely it would b 2 eZ 2 abuse, it would be hard to tell the difference between say 6x 290 vs 10x 290 etc.

Concerning Slow Gear: As of now it is considered BM (big surprise...) unless a whole bunch of ppl post and say... LEMME USE BM PLZ! and I doubt this will happen... so no slow gear.

Another note on slow gear: How do u all feel about the doom Runeword? It slows u and is unresistable... allow it or not? Up 2 u guys, just post...

troll thought: this is how you get a list of rules in the thousands. plus, how can you verify if a person is using an item(s) that violate a rule? why, with a hack of course.

my suggestion is to have a "master" list of rules, but only use some of them for tourneys, published in advance. group them, and when people want to duel, they can agree on which set they want to use, like golf (eg. skins, tourny, women's tees, etc.) i would say a limit of up to 50 rules per group is the maximum. for example:

BvB
Tournament
Open (Amatuer? hehe)
Pro-am
LLD

This would also minimize the temptation to cheat, as somebody with "bm" eq could just wait for an Open opponent.

my thoughts on the psn thing are I think items that have psn damage should be allowed but not charms. IMHO

I think this is a great idea I just have to say that again. I was involved with Temple for a little while but not big on pallys really. so this is such an amzing idea. I have a lvl 84 IK barb, a lvl 71 Polebarb, and working on a Sword/Shield Conc. barb now.

Anyhow I will keep reading here...

-no poison
-no prebuffing from other chars (i.e. crybaby for bo/shout and enchantress for enchant)

I was not in anyway saying all Clans are a scam I myself am a rather high ranking member in a small very elite Clan and ave been for about 2 years now so I was not saying that in anyway and am srry if it seemed like a low blow to anyone.

Ok, been away for a day, sry...
Anyhoo the new recap...

Style:
I'm lazy so it will be temple style, I'm going to call it "bloody moor" and pass will always be "bvb". I'll still make a list of ppl who want more private duels and then PM them all a dif password (so other ppl can't "drop" by uninvited w/ their fav necro or something when they get whooped..).

BM items:
ALL slow gear (clegs etc.)
Doom runeword (if ur opponent says u may use it, then it's ok, but it must be MUTUALLY agreed upon, if other guy says no, then keep it in ur ****ing stash...)
Poison charms (most ppl don't seem to like them) so poison is out. If u have an item that deals poison dmg u must "declare" it before a match and show it 2 ur opponent. Don't try and b sneaky btw... showing off a 100 poison dmg wep and secretly using 1-5x 290... it's eZ to tell the dif because 100 poison doesn't do ****...
No charges from items (except enchant from demon limb, it's cool seeing red weps :lol: )
No prebuffing from other chars (unless we do team duelz, then whoever has highest on your squad would be ok). Other than that stick 2 ur own ****ing BO, if it sux, 2 damn bad!

Code of Conduct:
No racism in any form, joking or otherwise...
No flaming (I hate it when ppl get stomped on so then spam up the whole ****ing screen w/ "joo nubzor" etc.), this also includes SPAM (I consider spam to be flaming and highly annoying)
Duel or get the **** out... this game is for duels, not idle chat (sry :)).
No TG or PK (if u become known for this I'll change the pass and perm ban u...)
Never bring ANY other type of char cept a Barb (if u bring a non barb, i'll change the pass, perm ban u... yada yada yada).

Things to think about:
I would "prefer" if everyone in this game is lvl 85+... (I guess I could live w/ lvl 80...). Lemme know ur thoughts (I hate seeing ppl get beat then saying... "ya, well ur 12 lvls higher than me!" even if it is true...).
Grudge Matches (might be fun if 2 ppl really hate each other and want to duel 7 rounds, first to 4 wins!). There would be a Ref... and hopefully an audience :). Lemme know ur thoughts on this, I'd love 2 c a few of these ;).

I'm out of town this weekend, but am also creating a new barb specifically for the occasion! It should go up next week sometime... remember I only play East so once we get that established I'll find someone trustworthy to run 1 on West (and europe I suppose...). Anyone feel like nominating any "game moderators" for the kickoffs?

Ok, back :)! To answer the slow question, yes, everything goes except slow anything and doom runeword (unless ur apponent agrees to it, but it MUST b mutual). Games will be primarily nL or ProLadder, but that's up 2 u ladder guys to decide... Last question, should duels be held in NM or Hell? Recently I've grown fond of hell duels... not that it really matters I suppose... so NM or Hell? And somebody nominate someone on WEST already!!! I DONT play on West so can't help there unless it's Ladder West, sorry...

Anyway, few suggestions. The overall USEast barb communnity basicly nothing. In 09 we had babapk and it was basicly pub with the pass 1. It was very gm for a pub and when non class came in they would be 7v1 and nk till they left. I have attempted to revive babapk games but doesnt seem to be holding out. Maybe we could use this as game name since den/tribe games have been up for questing and w/e. Also maybe look into puttin up a channel bot where we could meet and hang out for just barb talk and setting up duels. Also the bot could keep an up dated list of the top 10 duelers in the channel. Some what like the palapk and zonpk channels that are up.

Those were just a few thoughts on organization and keeping things under control. I've been involved in dueling run like this since early 09 (pvp-east, gosupvp, wesuck! ect....) and the people involved in these communities along with myself have all been very satisfied.

If noone objects u've got the job :). The responsibility is pretty simple... u put up the 1st babapk game on west (the kickoff) and try and make sure ppl r following the rules. Also if people have questions or suggestions I'd be trusting u to b able to answer them and make on the spot decisions. Also if any trouble makers pop up let me know :rant: .

As for the guy with the bot idea... does anyone have a bot to run the channel? If u do it would be greatly appreciated!

I'll post the final link in the next few minutes. Also I've decided to not list the names (for now) I may make a list l8r. If ppl begin abusing the rules or certain players develope bad reputations and ruin the game for others then I WILL post the list of allowed players and send them each the new password.

Since u will be running USWest I c no reason why the kickoff time shouldn't b your choice :). I'd say however try and shoot for evening when most of the more competitive players get home and online. Prob a good start time would 6 or 7pm? Lemme know your thoughts... Also It'd be great if your friend could help w/ that bot, even if he can only do it for west. Is channel name "Babapk" taken? If not I'd say go w/ that (same name as the games will always be). If possible I'd like to c u launch the west game by thursday or friday this week, let me know if u can :yep: .

Random FYI:
I will be hosting a USEast SC nL game tomorrow at aproximately 4:00pm PST (7:00pm EST I believe). I doubt I'll do any fighting (sry if anyone was interested in dueling me, I'm just gonna ref at first and see how things work, make a list of changes to b made and complaints etc.). Also be prepared... If u come to the game u MUST fight if asked for a duel, none of this "unhost me plz cuz I wanna pk everyone else" ********... Live, Die and Learn.

Final Note:
ALL barb classes are welcome, but don't get in a twist if u continuosely die to another player (ex: a WW barb will always kill a Zerker Barb etc.) or u get stun locked 24/7 by a Singer... just roll w/ it and have fun!

i think it should all be 1v1 with absolutely NO interruptions unless everyone in game decides on team or something. i'm a 1 man team. for me, i like 1v1 or stuff ffa (free for all w/ 8 barbs).

BTW: People get ur fukin asses into the games. I had 1 up 2day and only person who showed was Zero-unit w/ his wolfbarb (props zero, gd!). I'll be hosting another game tomorrow at about 12:00 PST (3:00 EST pm of course). If u want to duel then come else ill just cancel this whole thing... so show up 2morrow!

Well I have gave this two chances and I thought it would work, but for those who said they'd participate, didn't. It isn't properly organized for one thing (no offense) and it doesn't seem ppl are willing for this in my opinion. This is a good idea but I just don't really see it happening.

Check the "Babapk is up!!!" thread, we r getting more organized there and Katharsis is REALLY helping out. Once I'm done with school finals I'll make some minor revisions and c that this gets fully off the ground, no worries :).
