I don't play alot of barb pvp but I have been playing alot of barb pvm... natural resist doesn't need to be max.. 12-13 points.. it evens out after that.
as for missing armor.. it depends against what kind of players you'll be fighting.. as a somewhat allround gear I'd take:
angelic ring + amu
1 dual leech ring / AR / resist
Draculs grasp (sp?) for gloves
Gore riders for boots
dunno for belt.
You won't have (alot / any) absorb so get ready to die against a good sorc / FoH

Whoa whoa whoa, hold on. DON'T put 12-13 points into Nat resist. After 5, the returns per point become TERRIBLE. Most barbs only put one point in it and let +skills boost it, since it's pretty easy to get max resists that way.
Your best option for a pvp barb is going to be a whirler with ww, bo, shout, mastery, and leftovers in ironskin and required one-pointers like bcomm, berserk, and nat resist. Gear is going to run verdungo's, stormshield and arreat's with ed/str jewels, gore riders, enigma, raven/raven/highlord with dual angelic rings and a halo for melee duels, steelrends (Drac's don't trigger with whirlwind), and either a BotD or a Death Cleaver.
Swords are a good choice if you're going to be doing a lot of switching between 1h and 2h, though axes are better if you're going 1h; I myself use a BotD berserker axe with wizardspike in the stash for dueling casters (resists/mana/faster cast for teleporting, plus extra whirl hits).
Minimal str for gear (should be between base and 81 or so), minimal dex for max block, and the rest into vitality.

What Hal says is pretty much spot on. Having said that, I'd also like 2 point out that there is currently much controversy about stat point allocation. Some people prefer enough str to wear their SS w/o gear, I think 156 str for base (l2aider ran w/ 150 base I think he told me...). Others do run low str, I've seen as low as 30 (literally a barbs base starting str for a pure vita barb, though this is IMO a terrible idea...). My current barb runs with about anywhere from 6.1k-6.8k life (depends on gear) and anywhere from 4k-5.7k ww dmg depending on gear (very debatable, I built this barb to be good in all situations... and he is  ). U should build several barbs, each w/ a different stat point allocation/focus and find the 1 that u r most comfortable with. Nobody gets it right their first few times... experimentation is key.

i have made 2 complete, planned out pvp barbs, i am currently figuring out which one is better.
one had around 95 str or so, and was able to use eth valor/stone/steel carapace, but his life was around 6.2-6.5K
my new barb has base strength, and 7 K life, with about 3 K defense less than my eth valor barb. I will try a more str build (150 roughly is a good number, my first barb had that much) as my third and see how that works out.
there are advantages and disadvantages to everything, more life and less defense, less defense and more life, more dmg, less dmg, as Fire_dragon said, experiment and see what you like best.
Thanks fellas!!!!
