I humbly approach the forums for a problem about a history of understanding on cold mastery. :worship:

someone in game insist that cold mastery can't lower monsters 's(non immune) resistance below 0. I can't persuade them. so I just search, as I think that there's something wrong I don't know . until that I find this ,just in the diablo2.net faq of sor. :scared:
It's a shocking for me.(I always use this forums's information to persuade them....) I just wonder how old are these information ,and how it happened?

and the world sometimes is weird.

So how does Cold Mastery help me? Is it useful?

The formula for Cold Mastery is:

(Base Cold Resist) – (Base Cold Resist X Cold Mastery %) = New enemy cold resistance.

As stated above, this formula cannot lower a monsters resistance below 0, or to 0. It also only affects cold-resistant monsters. This makes it the least useful mastery out of the three, as it can only affect about 5% of the total monsters in the game. Due to its diminishing returns, its better to just put only one point in Cold Mastery. Anything over 5 base skill points is certainly a waste.

However, Cold Mastery is a very useful skill for PvP, as it allows the sorceress attacks to better penetrate other characters high resistances. To that end, if designing a PvP character, it’s better to max Cold Mastery if you have a cold attack.

That was 1.09.

1.10 Cold Mastery reduces cold resist by a straight amount.

I don't know about formulas, for cold mastery but from experiance with a blizz sorce with level 40 cold mastery and -25% to cold resistance on items (shard+ rainbows) it makes no difference, if a monster is CI, i do no damage to it. I just static it and let my merc kill them. Hope that helps?

Cold mastery and -x% Cold Res on items will not break immunity at all.
Only an effect on the monster (like Lower Resist, or Conviction) will break it.

diabloii.net is good but if u are confused why not visit the battle.net?

http://www.battle.net/diablo2exp/skills/sorceress-cold.shtml#coldmastery

quote from:www.battle.net

Cold Mastery will not work against monsters that are Immune to Cold. So even if you have Enemy Resistance -105%, they will still be Cold Immune and you will still be unable to damage them. So what's the point of 100%+ you might ask? Well if they are NOT Cold Immune, it will lower their Cold Resistance down below 0% which essentially means they will take more damage. It's just like when *you* have negative resistances in Nightmare/Hell difficulty.

If a target has 75% Cold Resistance and you use Skill Level 1 Cold Mastery, the target's resistance will be 75% - 20% = 55%.

because we believe in "www.diablo2.net."

btw: I am from China, :buddies: we think that "www.diablo2.net" are more powerful than "battlenet.com ".

I have post the question‘s link on our forums to remind others, and maybe the master of forum could feel the clicks increasing too much

Battle.net is usually better for itm info, and techinicalities like that, diabloii.net has too many errors. But for lforums tech support and char based questions, diabloii.net is better, usually.
