If I do the recipe ral + thul + perfect amethyst + rare normal armor but a rare armor with two gems in will I:

a) get an exceptional rare with same stats but lose the gems
b) get an exceptional rare with same stats and keep the gems
c) get an exceptional rare with rerolled stats and lose the gems
d) get an exceptional rare with rerolled stats and keep the gems
e) not work

I'm kind of hoping for b because my stats are really nice !! I managed to get a thul rune and I'd really like to try it out, but I don't want to stuff up my armor. Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure it's B. Stats are definetely kept and I'm pretty sure the socketed items stay as well.

Basically all the recipies do is change the base item type. All affixes, sockets, and socketed items remain the same.

Str, Dex and charactel level requirements will go up, but so should the defense. Just make sure that to check the base item defense first. Some upgrades are simply not worth it, as you might need 15-20 more lvl req, and 20-50 more str/dex for a lousy 10 defense more.

Upgraded my HOZ, with an UM in it, and ended up with something like 14 more Defense, and much higher requirements...I cried. lol. :D

I decided to check the requirements on Diabloii.net before I upgraded it: and I'm glad I did, because I wouldn't have been able to wear it (not enough strength - by 20 or 30!!). Although I will check if my mercenary can, I think he'll be able to.
