what character is best

I started a necromancer and, through baal runs, have been able to build him up to lvl 55. I can not kill baal by myself yet, but all other monsters in normal are no problem. In nightmare I get slammed, I have managed to make it almost all the way through act I but I am struggling. I lke to get into the middle of things and fight. but i think I might of messed up a little when I built him, he was my first.
110 strength
80 dexterity
70 vitality
65 energy.
I used most of my skill points on mages, fire golem, and skel and golem mastery. also put a bunch into amplify damage. enough about that guy.

I wanted to know what character, when built correctly, is strong enough to get me throught the game on my own. I am thinking about an assasin, but have also considered a sorc. any feedback would be greatly appreciated. thank you in advance.

Any character can easily solo nightmare. Its just up to you to build him to do that. with your current stats it seams to me that you need more vitality. Also try trading for better armor. That will keep you a live longer. It seams to me that your main problem with your necro is your gear. If you can't solo norm baal at level 55 your equipment isn't doing you any good. Ask a friend for some of his stuff or trade. But that sound like its your problem. Hope it helps.

I believe part of the problem lies in just HOW you built your character. Attributes aside, which are not all that bad BTW, just a little low on vitality, the skills are what truly make a necro.

A well built necro can solo hell, relatively easily, with only the most mundane of equipment. Although the other's recommendations of getting better gear are definitely appropriate, I figure it would be preferable for you to build a character that is less reliant upon his equipement to succeed.

thanks guys, I am going to start an assn tonight, I am going to try to focus on tiger strike/dragon claw and see what happens. Seems like everything that i read about droppin damage, points to this combo as being really productive most of the time. I also have a low level sorc that I am trying to build but will put on the back burner, I am tring to make a blizard sorc, but heard they might struggle in hell. I am going to try and bring up my viyality for the necro and see what I can do. thanks again. :yep:

the best way to learn something is through experiment. try different builds on your own. don't just do what everybody else says is a great build (not to say that these guys aren't giving good advice). sometimes the fun in the game is the challenge of doing it with more difficult characters.
