smite !!

is there a way to beat those mo@#$@# in melee ? or even get close ? I specificaly asked for a melee answer leave out bone necros // hammeradins // bliz or whatever sorcs // wind druids . I need to beat one in melee . Do i need to make a better smiter or is there a better way ?

Smite > melee. A good smiter can beat a WW barb as well with enough life and defense. Smite > close melee, and Smite > ranged melee with charge.

You'd need to be a freaking good dueller to beat an equally equipped ww barb imo. If both duellers are very good with their build, and they have equal equipment, i'd surely bet my money on the barb. I don't see how a smiter can survive some wellplaced ww (unless he's using life tap ofcourse....)

I'm not saying it cant be done, but if you take the average smiter vs the average barb, surely you must the agree the barb would win? Perhaps wvx_leader *is* a "freaking good dueller" ( ;) ), but in pubbies my ww barb had like an average kill/death ratio of 5/1 vs smiters, and i'm not a very good dueller.

Of cause the smiter has to be at least decent to score hit for hit. -_-

Anyone considered kicksin? 7/2/2/2/2 FPA speed on Dragon Talon + Dragon flight both pure melee attacks? or good fury wolf? fury damage per attack about same or higher compare to damage of WW with spirit of wolverin AR pretty high as well. How about Conc barb?

Only two melee skills stand out:

You might be right power of assasins lie not only fast attack but rather in ability to perma stun opponent with MB and so to speak MB arent melee attack ...
On other hand berserker with maximized sinergies (pure melee right?) need get connected 2 maximum 3 time to kill outright anyone

I got a question abt smite and that is the ias required to reach 6fps...

at http://www.diabloii.net/characters/paladin/ias-smite.shtml

the table showed that with a base weapon speed of -30 with fanatism on, just 10 ias is needed to reach 6fps smite speed...

does that mean if i use a Kingslayer(30ias) Phaseblade(base speed -30) I would have more than enough ias to reach 6fps without any additional ias?

conversly, would it also mean that if i use a botd(60ias) warspike(base speed -10) i would also be smiting at 6fps w/o the need of additional ias items?


sry i know theres been many questions on smiting but this is my first PvP char and I really wanna make him well...

yes -30 weapon need 8% IAS
-20 weapon need 21~30% IAS
-10 need 35%
0 need 50 with lvl 26+ Fana 55 with lvl 25 fana
10 is 85 I believe

isnt this a little easy to reach 6fps?

in fact a botd warspike can also zeal at 4fps with fanatism w/o additional ias...

msot ppl use astreons or redeemer for the added damage they add, 120 or 85 dam is alot, as it goes through both pvp penalty and damage reduce, that and having high defense from synergies and holy shield, 6 fps smite, 3k smite dam, around 3k+ life max block, 20k + defense(30k or so with exile, but wont talk about it, life tap and defiance are kinda bm imo) it is very hard for a barb to win.
firstly he needs high attack rating too get a 50%+ hit ratio, second, he needs damn good damage to go through damage reduce and be able to kill the pala, and if pala has some chrushing blow/open wounds, the barb is generally dead real fast, same goes for all other melee, there simply isnt anything that owns melee more then a smiter. maybe if they had given ww a synergy, barbs would have stayed as king of melee, like a 6% synergy in damage or something from shout kinda like concentrate, and maybe an attack rating bonus or something, dunno. but its very hard for a barb to "own" a smiter.

I would say a decent V/T or Vindicator could take on just about any WW barb. Open Wounds and Crushing Blow work nice with smite.

I think I might level up two pallies in one of my accounts to lend to you westies. You and Marcus could maybe share the account? One is a smiter with a 2nd attack that's not yet decided and another pure smiter with passive resists for fire and lightning, I was testing. =)

Keep in mind that 3K is extremely hard to achieve without great gear.

Also, Upgraded HoZ doesn't have the highest smite damage as does a Targe or Rondache type shield. But there is no shield that can beat a Up'd Herald of Zak. for smite.

10 Combat charms does wonders to your smite damage as well.

Sacred rondache: 35-58 = avg 46.5
Kurast shield: 10-82 = avg 46
Zakarum shield (upped hoz): 46-46 = avg 46

Did you re-cast holy shield when putting on extra combat? I reckon 4 combats would make the damage pretty high........

no i didnt recast but - i casted HS with my charms on and it was 2500 avg.. then i removed 1 charm and my damage was lowered by +-60-70

The biggest damage comes from holy shield i think, maybe it didn't lower but only the 15% ed from smite itself.
