Frozen Orb sorc, Viable?

Ok, Having had a lot of fun with my blizzard sorc, I eventully got bored and deleted her, now I want to make a character that is exceptionally good at killing hell cows. I know blizzard would work fine. but I really like frozen orb.

So would it be viable to make a straight frozen orb build that could demolish cows?

Also, I considered the meteor orb build, but Im not sure if the frozen orb would be strong enough to kill the cows quickly that way.

i like frozen orb.i was taking out hell cows fairly well,till i got the king"grumble grumble"i take meph and baal also.i do like blizzard but seems to work better in group situations.like baals last 2 packs of minions.but other wise i use orb all the time .

My orb/meteor/fb sorc is effective in Cow level as well as everywhere else, with no synergy points in Orb (except 1 prereq), nor any damage-enhancing equipment. I imagine wearing something with +cold dmg as well 20 points in Ice Bolt will make it much more effective.

i'd say no. you'll kill them, but nowhere near as quickly as a meteor or blizz sorc.

It's viable, my mf sorc is pure orb. I cow with her looking for charms/runes so often without much problem

If I said I like Orb I'd be lying to you. I love Orb! I'm not sure about Blizzard, but I think you can cast Orb faster. I just like the fact that I can "aim" the orb and is sprays the damage.

I also don't know about the "pure" part, I use Hydra too and I don't think I would walk into Hell Cows and use Hydra. I want faster damage, like yesterday.

FO tickles hell cows. It does not demolish.
The problem is you can't beef up the damage either with a synergy or party help. Blizzard you can synergize way up, fire and lightning you can also synergise and gain from - resistant from either party or items, or use + skills for more damage from mastery. Cold mastery is limited to -100% resistance.

You will also need to use a good Death's Fathom which is not cheap.

You mean the lowest you can get enemy res is -100? because I know my mastery subtracts more than that.

Jayaz, correct. You can't go below -100 resist. Mastery subtracts more than that because if a monster has 80 Cold Resist, and your mastery only subtracts say 140, the monster would be at -60, not -100.

FO isn't as good as Blizzard vs. HELL cows, but it still works. I'd say FO beats Blizzard in the Normal Cows, and tied in NM cows.

Also, it's easy to obtain a higher lvl static if you do pure FO (max static is an option), which can Static the whole screen+, which helps kills fast.

MMm let me put this way FO beat **** out of blizzard then you are attacking single target due to higher damage with right positioning (you can hit target with up to 14 shards with maxed sinergy and CM its will net you 15+K cold damage per orb per target) but for area attack ... blizzard tomb up
