Hey,
I'm thinking about starting a throwing barb and I have heard that Gimmershred's are the ideal throwing barb weapon. Well, since I'm just starting out from taking a long break I may have some trouble finding some gimmershred's. So, how expensive are they? I was planning on trading for some but if their expensive I may have some trouble. Also, can you leech from throwing?

Also, this is kind of off topic but here goes. I have heard of builds pumping dex for max damage and I have heard of other builds pumping vitality for massive life. Which would you recommend doing?

Another thing, with gimmershred’s, will the elemental dmg take out those pesky PI’s? What if you don’t have gimmershred’s, what would you recommend doing against PI’s? With gimmershred’s, how much IAS would you need to reach a repectable throwing speed?

Finally, I think I’m going to either build a throwing barb or a strafezon. Which do you think would be better overall and which is least item dependent? I know your opinions are probably going to be biased since this is a barb forum, but if you give me an honest answer, I’ll be very grateful. Thanks a million!

To answer your questions in order. Gimmershreds are extremely cheap, to be honest with you. Only barbs can use them basically, and then only thrower/thrower hybrid. I would say you can get them for no more than mid level runes (i've gotten them for um's before). Leeching, yes you can. Because of the nerfing blizzard did on this patch, life leech does not work well. I use only a 4% mana leech ring on mine, and it never runs out of mana. Life leech does work slightly better on a thrower than most because of the distance (less getting hit makes the leech seem more effective) As to the vitality, it depends whether you're going pvp or pvm. If you're going pvp, pump vitality and get a bunch of 3/xx/xx charms. If youre going pvm, get some war cry charms, and pump dex. If you go the high dex method (approaching 300) you can easily expect to hit near 10k with a might merc and over 6k with a holy freeze or other merc. If you go the pvp method, you will have only about 5k or so damage, with over 10k attack rating and nearly 4k life (higher possible with echoers). Finally, yes the elemental on the gimmershreds will take down any ip with no more than 8-10 throws. Hope this helps.

Yeah, thanks it helped a ton. So, if I was going to go the massive dex route, how much vitality should I get? You wouldn't leave it base, would you? Also, if I remember correctly, um's aren't that cheap, right? This may pose some problems. I think the gimmershred's may be harder to get than I expected.

Finally, how do you think a Throwing Barb would compare to a WWS Strafezon? Which do you think would have an easier time overall? Which is less item dependent? From what I've read it kind of seems like the Throwing Barb would because they are less item dependent and if they run into PI's, they have a way around it. Strafezon's don't, really. Thanks a million!

You can get gimmers for MUCH cheap than ums. I was in a game where someone offered a pair for just one soj (useast non-ladder). YOu can easily get these for pgems.
