View Full Version : Please help a newbie make a Conc/Charge/Sacrifice build please
Well I've done a little homework and decided that this sounds like a very fun paladin to play. FTR, I will be single-player only for the most part. Char is stored on my own computer.
So, about the build. What I intend to do is have a very hard-hitting character.. 2H weap + concentration + sacrifice and charge when I need it, should end up doing insane amounts of damage (I think, anyway). But, I need to know which skills I should train in now, and which I should leave off until later.
I've given you the basics: Conc, sac and charge. I don't really know what else to use though. I've speculated on Redemption as a cleaning-up aura (plus the fact that it gives bonuses to Sacrifice). Vengeance sounds nice, but unnecessary when you consider that I will want to be using Sacrifice.
So.. what kind of build do you recommend for this kind of character? Don't talk about items please, since I *am* still a newbie, and don't want things to be spoiled. Also, how many points should I invest in my stats? What is worthwhile for this build? I know that I won't have much use for mana, but Charge does (from my POV) use some mana. I'm level 10, invested 1 sp in Might aura, with 9 unused, and my stats have been invested pretty safely into Vitality, Strength and Dexterity fairly equally. So in essence.. what should I use my 9 SP for now? Where should my next 10 be allocated? Where should my stats be (in percentages), etc etc.
Oh yeah... If this character will become complete toast in NM/Hell modes, please tell me. I don't expect to make it to Hell mode, but it's nice to plan ahead you know? I'm also open to suggestions for other types of builds, but as a note I don't really like the idea of the Zealot or the Hammerdin builds... Avenger would be my closest alternative. But I really like hitting extremely hard, so help me make this build work please. :)
Thanks!
Okay well since no help came the entire day, I went ahead and fiddled around, it wasn't as hard as I'd thought it would be.
20 Concentration (1 pt might, 1 pt blessed aim = 22)
Bonus to damage, duh
20 Charge (1 pt smite = 21)
Big hitter - will work well against bosses I am guessing?
20 Sacrifice
My bread and butter
20 Redemption (1 pt prayer, 1 pt defiance, 1 pt cleansing, 1 pt vigor = 24)
Gain mana I wasted with charge/health with sacrifice post-fight (anything not covered by leeches). Also adds a 20*15=300% synergy to Sacrifice, giving Sacrifice a 345% (conc) + 408% (sac) + 300% (redemption) = 1053% damage increase, with charge at 345% (conc) + 575% (charge) = 920% damage increase... Hmm, with all the synergy I will have for Sac, makes me wonder if I even need charge ;)
Here's another Q: I read somewhere that the Resist Elemental damage auras give a passive increase to your resistance? Is this true? Does this also hold true for Salvation? Are there any other good "passive" skills worth adding to my paladin?
For stats, I still have no clue, please enlighten me :) Also, does Redemption take 4 skill points to reach (training in defiance, prayer, cleansing, and vigor), or do I only need 2 (defiance/vigor)?
What do you think? Is this a character capable of surviving in Hell mode? And thanks!
sorry no ones msged u on ur build but it does look new and looks very fun.. it obviously is a VERY hard hitting build but remember 2 keys toget through nm and hell (norm should be cake walk for u)
1. resistance.. gloams and skelemages can own u if u ahve poor resist.. so id suggest HoZ p diamond if tats outta ur league then a mosers double p diamond. rhyme shile dis also good if ur low on budget (shael eth in a 1 socket shield)
2. dr: also known as damge reduce.. tehres a lotta hard hitting guys (ur not the only hard hitter :) ) in act5 such as those crazy bulls so ull need dr to reduce the dmg.. dr is current capped at 50% and anything over it is useless (or is this only for pk? cant rmemeber) anyways try to get as much as possible. items like shaftstop shako and etc will give lots of dr. (i no u said dont talk about items but they are important for ur survival :) )
as for stats.. since ur gonna be going two hander like u stated.. i think u might need to invest quite a lot into strength. wat weapon are u planning to use in particular?
most 2 handers have steep sterngth requirements so ur gonna see urself putting from 100-225 O_O so it really depends on the weapon u plan to use
u should only put one into the skills u arent going to use and try to max the skills ur gonna use asap.. sacrifice maybe a lil bad for u to use at low levels because u dont have life leech ring (get a catans asap) so use zeal until u hit high levels. ull want to maxx charge before sacrifice imo because more dmg = faster kill = faster level. charge should do more damage at earlier levels than sacrifice. ull want to put 1 into the auras redemptions fantatism and vigor asap as well.. even 1 is useful but id focus on maxing charge, then redemption, then sacrifice, then rest in fanta..
and u talk about life problems.. u should get a life leech ring/helm (vampire gze) i think this is very essential for ur build since ur gonna use sacrifice which can lower ur life significantly with each hit.. but now tat i relook at it u have redemption as a skill ur gonna max which is great but its still good to ahve a ll ring because theres times ull get mobbed by guys and have no time to kill an enemy but only hurt him.. this will increase ur survival rate
ur skills IMO should be layed out like this:
20 charge
20 scrifice
20 redemption
20 vigor (synergy of charge and run like crazy fast to breeze through acts)
and rest in fantacism
why fanta? fater sacrifice attack speed..even MORE Dmg.. (wow ur gonna be packin round the 15k area O_o)
ur gonna have to switch between fanta and redemp since ur gonna use fanata to kill then redemp to gain life after u kill something..
item wise for starters try:
vamp gaze
resistance ammy
ll ring/ manald ring for mana leech and life
string of ears for ll and dr (which is important)
shaftstop/lionheart
boots/ any would be fine
bloodfists gloves because of the fhr and life +min dmg
mosers blessed round shield double pdiamand
weapon depends on ur funds
all the items i listed are cheap and easy to obtain.. even for starters.. gl with ur build and ask away if u have anymore questions
o ya.. u asked how well itll do in hell not too sure cuz later in hell the minions get very difficult esp in act 4-5 u may have trouble with death knights that use iron maiden skill since ur all physical damage.. lemme think a lil about this build and get back to how u can survive in hell
edit- just thougt about it and u WILL most likey have a hard time in hell esp since ur gonna use a two hander.. ever thought about 1 hander with shield?
itll increase ur durability in hell by at least 50%.. tell me wat u think :)
Hrm thanks for the input... I had not thought about using Fanaticism for the synergy bonus... And vigor could be a good idea too.
BTW, for better or worse, I do *not* have the expansion pack... so no runes and whatever the hell other stuff there is in LoD that makes no sense to me obviously :P
As for the two-hander, nothing is very concrete at this point. If I have a nice 1H, I'll use that over a 2H. I can keep my character pretty open actually until NM, and if I begin to have problems there with 2H I can switch to 1H, maybe get some Holy Shield too (which could go a long way helping Hell mode). And I have no clue which weapon I am shooting for, because I've never seen anything more special than Bastard Swords and Crystal Swords from my old Act 3 barbarian (whom has disappeared apparently :o)
Anyway, you've raised some very important points. I probably will need defense to survive... Do you have any suggestions on how to raise it other than going 1-handed? Perhaps Salvation as a back-up aura, to use in NM/Hell when things get a bit too hot, and then play defensively (by Charge, run away, Charge, until monsters dead?). Hmm...
Regarding the build... I really like what you did to it. Vigor will add 400% damage to Charge, but I am still unsure whether to choose between Fanat and Concentration (or possibly Conviction... could that help me in Hell mode?).
Also unfortunately I play SP so I can't trade/buy these items, just gamble/hunt for them. So what I get is pretty variable, not leaving me too much to work with.
I wish I had already experienced Hell, so I know just how difficult it is, but from what I hear (iron maiden, immune monsters galore) it sounds just like its name - utter Hell. Which makes me tempted to make a tesladin or a frost zealot, just to make everything easier on myself. But I can't give up the idea of a super-damaging paladin :P
Edit: Wow I looked on B-net and it seems Fanaticism has an even bigger damage bonus than concentration, plus increased attack speed and rating, plus 5% per level for sacrifice. I'm sold :)
ahh ic.. so its not lod :P well the best choice for u is to either mf or to shop for ur sheilds.. u can get urself a real good one with mods such as "prismatic" of "deflecting" ya i doubt ull need massive dmg since its sp.. any more questions? good luck with ur build!
I'll probably have a few more a bit later (too lazy too think right now), but what do you think I should call my paladin? A Berserkadin? (very fast, very aggressive, very hard-hitting)
