Yes and no

Eg A COH has 70% en Def. Put runes in a superior dusk armour with say 10 en def it will have 80% en def.

I think wat you are trying to find out is does the word superior disappear? Answer yes it does

A good 3 sox archon can go for storm

The armour stays superior but it costs an absolute fortune to repair rune word items where the base item used was superior. Up to you of course but I strongly suggest you use the best none-superior armour you can find and save yourself the pain....

You want to use the 5 sock thresher for Doom runeword I presume? Is it going to be used on a merc? Then a 5 socket Ethereal Cryptic Axe is much more usefull. Highest damage possible on a normal quality polearm class weapon. If you are on Europe realm let me know on acc-name *Superslet-FDNL , I have 2.

cryptic axe is elite, and its speed is +10. I thought giant thresher is best. It's speed is -10, and its daamge is not much lower than cryptic axe. a merc above 85 level can use it.

Average damage of Cryptic Axe = 91.5
Average damage of Giant Thresher = 77

That is quite some difference. Combine this with +330-370% Enhanced Damage and you get some serious damage output with the Cryptic Axe. Including the 50% Ethereal bonus and it becomes even bigger a difference. Of course the Giant Thresher has better IAS then the Cryptic Axe. Giant Thresher has max attack speed of 5.5 fps, Cryptic Axe doesn't go below 6.5 fps. If this is a notable difference I don't really know.

FPS is Frames Per Second
IAS is Increased Attack Speed

It depends, as a big speed difference will mean that the faster weapon will deal more damage than the more damaging weapon over time, but multiplying a twenty damage difference by 330% - 370% is also a big difference. Can you get to your fastest attack without the -10 Thresher speed?

I think I'll use a Thresher, (When I can make Doom), just because I don't really like the way that a Cryptic Axe looks. But this is SP PvM ;)
