Merc Help

I'm very new to the game and I was wondering, how do you use your merc? By that, I mean, I’ve realised you can't control him but he follows your around. However, when I’m playing, he kinda lags behind or never tanks for me. How do I run with the merc staying close by?

when im using my sorc that has the act 5 merc, his sole purpose is to tank. when u teleport, the merc comes with you. using that knowledge, i just teleport right in front of the enemies and walk backward, the enemies will charge and run into the merc first. he will attack, i will attack, the enemies will die, everyone is happy.

there is no way i know of it run with the merc next to you. even when you walk, he stays behind you.

my other sorc uses a a2 holy freeze merc, and that merc doesn't need to tank as much, but when i do, i do the same thing i said above. normally, this merc just needs to be near me, then everything will be slowed down giving me enough time to kill things before they get to me.

Btw, how do people come about lvling their merc? Right now, i'm lvl 26 and my merc is 22. Would it be a good idea to let the merc die, get to say lvl70+ quick and then lvl him? Or should i continue in what i'm doing. Lvl myself a bit and let the merc catch up?

Well, when you hire a merc. you hire him relatively close to your lvl (well about 15-20 lvls below), I'm 69 and just hired my Act 2 Merc. in NM at lvl 47). Take him to places with enemies you can help him kill so he doesn't get overwhelmed. Remember, you can equi him with armor, a helm, and a weapon (or 2 for barb mercs), by pressing 'O'.

just tele, whenever u tele ur merc shows up right next to u, its wat i do.
