Ok, I have been reading strategy postings for Sorcs, and 90% of them have so few points in Warmth...some even recommend as low as 1 point!!!

Honestly, even with + skill items, how the hell do you survive?

I have a MF sorc that has her warmth boosted to 17 with items, and I can still run out of over 600 mana...

Am I missing something, or do these guys seriously underestimate warmth?

what is your build? my old meteorb only ran out of mana with CONSTANT spamming or teleporting. I had tal's ammy, belt, shako, vipermagi, occulus or rare or gull, rhyme, magefist, maybe an SOJ--nothing special..
I only had like 2 points in warmth..
Maybe you're just playing too hard ;)

I think the main reason the guides say only 1 point in warmth is because sorc builds are very tight with respect to skill points. To get max damage with your spells, you need synergies, so you don't have many skill points left over. I would personally rather do huge damage, kill quickly, and have to drink some pots, than to kill slowly to save some mana. If you kill slowly, you end up casting more spells anyway, and thus maybe that's why you run out of mana.

The skill points are even tighter if you do dual tree which is necessary if you plan to solo hell (unless you have an awesome merc to take care of the immunes).

EDIT: Prion has a good point. Get some items with "+mana after each kill"

1 point in warmth is all u need. thats all i have and with my equip its around 10. I never run out of mana. The only time i do is when i take off my sojs, frosties and such to mf. But im fine with using pots. Overall i think its a bad move to place more points in it.

warmth i can replace with mana potions. lost skill damage not quite so easy. more than 1 point is a waste.

Well, I am currently going for this build (and I'm at 77)

20 FO
20 CM

20 FW (at 18)
20 FM (at 3)

Then using Teleport, Shiver Armor, Static Field, etc. It's a pretty basic MF build.

I am having assloads of trouble with cold immunes in Hell though. Every cold immune is one of those dark rogues, etc. They run right through the FW without being touched.

I guess that is my main problem. I can't get anywhere in Hell because Firewall is a crappy spell unless you're trying to kill a boss. I really wish I would've gone with the meteorb approach instead, but its too late now I guess...

For items, I am using Vipermagi, Shako, Prismatic Ire, Goldwrap, and some other items that add to magic find.

So, I think with all of my MF items, I need all those points in Warmth. I have Frostburns, but I don't use them (because I have MF gloves, etc). Same with Tearhaunch, etc. I replaced the good items with mF gear.

So, on a MF sorc, is more than 1 point still a waste? I don't think so, but I could be wrong.

i assume you have an act2 or act5 merc? yes, firewall is not the best out there, meteor usually better imo, even on a limited point budget. firewall can work though.

with 1pt warmth, base nrg, and +skills eq (+7 all, +1 fire) i can keep near max mana when using timered spells (meteor, blizz, sometimes FO too) at around 600-700 mana. if, however, i get a BO, i have noticed that regen rate is faster than usage rate.

also, mana pots are not a problem. if i am mainly tp'ing, then i use 3/4 of my belt for mana pots, if not, i use 2/4.

Yowza! New rule of the thumb.

Hehe, shouldn't it be Rule of Wrist? ......... Only for the people who have seen Dogma a few times too much :)

But on topic; something I've noticed it that with my current setup around 1k mana is needed to be able to teleport non-stop without manapots. This setup has slvl 11 Teleport and slvl 12 Warmth + 25% mana regen from Magefist. This is by no means an elite amount of +skill, so around 1k mana should be fine.

Well thanks for the input guys. I guess I'm not really convinced that any more than one point in warmth is a waste, but I can see why I like it now.

Update: I maxed FW, and I have a total of 11 points in Fire Mastery (with items). After leveling and doing Radament, I decided to pop a few points into Meteor and Fireball to try to get myself some more effective fire damage. Hopefully it'll work out...

Thanks again!
