View Full Version : How does Iron Golem Work

I heard Iron Golem increases damage or defense whether on what item you make it out of. Does it really take on the properties? I have a hard time believing that even though I have played for years.
If I make a iron golem out of Stormrider Tabar, will it last longer and be more effective than a iron golem made from armor?

why would a stormrider make an iron golem last longer?
im not sure how it works in 1.10 but i know in 1.09 there were a ton of properties that transfered over to an ig. % ctc items work well, especially in armors.
oh well..

Hi
When you maka a IG from an item, fx. at eth Doom the sword damage will be added to your IG's base damage, and if you make a IG from a 4-socket shield with perfect Diamonds, it will receive 4 x 19 % resistance to all.
Here is a list of mods your IG can get from items :
%Enhanced damage
+ Min/Max damage
Elemental damage
Chance for % deadly strike
Chance for crushing blow
Attacker takes damage, including elemental damage
+% Damage to Undead or Demons
Cast spell on attack
Cast spell on hit
Cast spell when hit
Chance for % open wounds
Faster by % run/walk
Faster hit recovery %
Hit blinds target
Hit slows target by %
Prevent monster heal
Knockback
Hit causes monster to flee
Magic Find and EAS does not work with IG :-(

Prevent monster heal
PMH works... coolio... does anyone habitually use the runeword Malice to make an IG... The properties seem kinda rich to me.

ig is a horrible golem. slow. barely hits. not of huge use for something like malice.

oic... thought it might be useful on bosses but if it rarely hits then it rarely hits. THNX

barely hits? is it the AR?

Yep. Even with all the synergies maxed and a level 40 IG he will still have only 980 AR. And that is why Golems aren't used for damage. Well that and the fact that damage is really low.

can't you make an IG out of a brutal/cruel weapon with AR bonuses?
Mad Mantis

You can. But that means giving up a really good weapon. The IG will still miss a lot of attacks. And it does nothing for his attack rate. He attacks not very often.

What if you max out blood and iron golem, and use iron for the thorns?

Edit: The only reason I would use Stormrider is that it is so easy to get...if only useful uniques would drop like Stormriders.

Nothing changes.

I meant use Iron golem exclusively for the thorns. The strategy would be casting amp/maiden on everyone and let them hit your golem as much as you can. Plus, make a golem out of a crafted hit power weapon for more thorns.
Will this be feasible?

No. The life/damage ratio for monsters if way off. Too much life not enough damage. Even with a high powered IG and Amp they will kill themselves only after a lot of blows. You will be constantly resummoning your IG.

So for pure offensive meleemancing, using amp curse usually and decreptifying for backup defense on difficult monsters, which other golem to use, fire? (+ clay synergies? or leave it alone so you can blow up your golem often?)

Fire is very expensive mana wise. You don't have a lot of mana.
A side effect of FG is that he attracts monsters. This is not a good thing. You want the monsters to be in small manageable packs. Not huge mobs.
As a Meleemancer I would not put points in any other Golem than Clay. And even then not a lot of points. You will need a lot of points for curses and BA.

And what is wrong with BG?

Low life, damage, AR and defense.

Making IG's out of runewords with auras (like Doom) is fun experimentation ... but only if you're rich and foolhardy.

Certainly im not rich. The golem gets a 2nd aura?
Mad Mantis

Yep, he does. You can give him an extra aura like HF, or Defiance or Fanaticism.
