Introduction
Hello let me introduce my self. Some of you know me as xPumafangx. Some people know me as Bri. I have been playing this game on and off since 1.04. The Paladin is my favorite class to play, mainly because it is the most flexible class in the game. Wile using this class I have been able to meet many deferent kinds of people and seeing very deferent kinds of builds since I have started. I never got in to the class till 1.09. Before that I have been playing barbarians. Before I started to play the class of Paladin I did not think it would have meet my expectations. Well it didn’t, it surpassed it. Now that the Paladin is one of the top classes to play now in 1.10, I want to give to you the reader what I know about this class, the Smealot/Ranger. So you too can enjoy it as much as I have.
I will be giving you 4 chapters on how to build this kind of Paladin. In each chapter I will be giving away in depth information about the Smealot/Ranger. The info will range from what to use and why you should use it. All of the info given is facts that I have looked up or tested my self. Also this guide will be made for the people that just started this game, and also for people that have been playing for as long as I have.
Chapter 1. Building a Motor
Like a car the character is the instrument you use to get around in this game. And well your stats and skills are you motor. The stats are the easiest part to do. Here I will explain it.
Strength and what it does. You need it for using your items. Some times you do not need a lot of it, some times you do. For this build you will be adding just enough to use all of the items you have. But what it does is increases your damage. By 1% for each point you add. For some weapons in the game it adds 1.10%. Those items are legendary mallets, ogre mauls, and Thunder mauls. You should only be using the Mallets if you decide to use that kind of item.
Dexterity like strength you only want enough to use for items. Unlike strength dexterity does a lot more then just gives you more damage. It also helps your block rate, attack ratting, damage with missile weapons, and defense.
Vitality only does two things. You do not need it for items, but you will end up adding all of your remaining points to this. Because it gives you more life and stamina, by +3/+1 per point added per level. The end result you want to have like 2,000 life give or take a few 100 points.
Energy does only one thing. It adds too manna pool. All of your skills will be using around 2 points per use. And by leaving it at its base witch is 15. It will give you as much manna as you will ever needs for the rest of the game no matter what level you are. So please keep it at its base.
Now that we have the stats covered lets move on to skills. I will be going over what skills to max out first. Then I will be going over the rest.
1. Sacrifice- Like a true Martyrs. The Paladin is willing to sacrifice his own life to kill the minions of hell. What it does is takes 8% of your life and uses your essences to give your attacks more power. At level 1 it does 20% to attack rating and 180% more damage done. Per level it gives 5% more attack rating and 12% more damage done. This is the first skill you will be maxing out. At level 11 you will be getting your hands on 2 Catran’s Seals. Witch is a ring, which gives you 6% life leech and damage done to you by 2 per ring. With 2 of these rings you will have enough life leech to heal your self by 4% damage you do per hit. This is the first skill you should max out. Meaning put 20 points in to this skill.
2. Zeal- this skill is the bread of your butter. It has changed a lot over the years I remeber when it added 1 attack per skill level. But that does not matter right now. Because right now it gives you up to 5 attacks ending at level 4. But at the same time this skill gives you 10% to attack ratting and 0% more damage done at level 1. Per level added you gain 10% more attack ratting. Then at level 5 you will get 6% more damage done, with 6% more damage added per level. Sacrifice helps this skill out. With more damage by a %, by 12% more damage done per skills level of Sacrifice. With Sacrifice maxed out you will be getting 240% more damage done at level 1 zeal. Witch is really sweet. You will be starting adding points to zeal at level 20. But will stop adding points to it at level 60.
3. Fanaticism- this skill will be your main aura. What it does is 4 deferent things at once. They are increases your damage, increases your teams damage, increases the attack speed you and your teammates, and increases you and your teammates attack rating. Making this skill highly useful. At level 1 this skill gives those things at these amounts, party damage 25% your damage 50%, every ones attack speed by 14%, and every ones attack rating of 40%. Adding to each per level as well. I do not want to go in to this to deeply. You should start adding points to this till it is maxed out at level 30.
4. Holy Shield- Is a extremely useful skill. What it does at level 1 is adds to your def by 25%, raises your block rate by 14%, and 3-5 more smite damage. It does have a timer. Witch at level 1 is 30 seconds. All of these things are increased per level. This is the last skill you need to max out.
Now for the rest, I will be talking about the most important skills first then the least important.
1. Smite- The Paladin uses his shield to bash his enemies to death. This skill is your butter of the bread. Every point you have left after you have maxed the 4 skills in the list above. What this skills does is at level 1 are ignores the defense and
the block rate of who ever you are fighting, gives you 15% more damage, a % chance to knock them back, and stuns
them for .6 seconds. But only the damage added and the stun rate increases for every level after that. Note: Smite gets its
damage from your shield, attack range from your weapon, and attack speed from your weapon.
2. Vengeance- you do not have to add any points to this skill. But you can if you want to. You only should because what it does is adds elemental damage to your attack. Witch gives you a way to kill monsters that are immune to physical. You may not need this skill if you have a weapon that does a large amount of elemental damage away ways.
3. Charge- what it does is makes you run all most instantly to your target. That is why you should hotkey this skill. But do not let this skill damage and attack rating fool you in to adding more skill points. Because this skill is very buggy, the programmers when they made the 1.10 patch made a mistake. Some times your Paladin will use the skill in a very slow running speed or will just freeze up. I will not even tell you the damage or attack rating of this skill at level one because it is meaningless for this kind of Paladin.
With ending the first chapter I will now explain how you will add skill points to your character wile leveling it.
Levels 1 go to the Bloodmoor. Do the first quest you will be able to get to around 4 levels I think. For the quest reward add that skill point to might. Witch is your first prerequirements for fanaticism. And you will be using that aura till level 31. Around level 4 or 5 go buy some stuff. Add all of your stats points to strength. In fact know how much strength you need to use all of your items before hand. If you are poor or new, get like 110 – 210. It really matters on what you find. Now get in a party and go level and do quests. Wait till you are level like 10-15 and do act 1 boss games, till you cannot level any more. After that go to act 2. Beat the first quest. Use that skill point so you can add to blessed aim. Now you have a choice either rush to the end of the first difficulty or do the game by yourself. If you are new do not get a rush. Keep playing it is a fun game. If you are getting a rush, wait till level 24. Then do cow games, till you cannot level any more. Then do normal Baal runs, till like level 40 something. Lets get back to skill placement. At level 20 you should have sacrifice maxed out. After that do max out zeal till like level 30-31. At that time do this for every level add a point to zeal or fanaticism, alternate with the 2 skills. That should end around level 60. With each skill quest you get add to prerequirements for holy shield. But if you are having trouble, like for say you are not getting a rush. Just add to the prerequirements skills. For dexterity is also like strength just adds to it every now and then you will never need more then 145 and that is pushing it. Compared to like a Smealot. Witch should never need more then 100. After that add to vitality in fact add that mixed in with dexterity. Good places to level in nightmare and hell are act 5 Baal runs. Good places to find stuff are in act 1-hell countess runs for runes, and act 1 hell the pit, more on the pit and countess.
Chapter 2. Fine tuning your car
In this chapter I will be talking about what items to be using. This in its self is the tricky part. Because of the 2 main skills being used zeal, and smite. Are very useful with 2 very different kinds of items. Smite is very useful when using items with plus to skill. Wile zeal is a very different story. This build uses zeal a lot more then it uses smite. So we will be building this. Using items centered on zeal. But one thing that needs to be done at all times is to all ways have an elite paladin shield. Well not when you are a low level. There are a lot of items out there that will mess this kind of paladin up really quickly. But as long as you stick to these things you will never get mad that your Smealot/Ranger is dieing in hell. Well maybe just do not blame me. They are at least 75% resist all in hell, 4fps zeal, absorb in each element, as much deadly strike as you can get, at least 1-2k zeal damage per hit, 50% damage reduced by a %, 75% block rate, 48% faster hit recovery, and some kind of elemental damage. I will give you a list of items that can do this, also a number of sets that can do just that.
Now I will be giving you a list of items to use from high end, to the cheap easy to get that most people would just sell off to Charsi. I will start off with cuirass. Then I will move too helms, boots, shields, gloves, belts, rings & amulets, and then the best for last weapons.
Cuirass
1. 1.08 Arkaine’s Valor – there is no better item that blizzard will ever make again. Funny thing is that you could still be killed using it.
2. Boneweave shaftstop – second best highly fixable as well. Can get 1616 def with a perfect one. Other then that the best mod is that it has 30% damage reduced by a %.
3. Leviathan – It is a lot like a shaftstop to be honest. Just less damage reduced with more strength and not more life. Cool green look.
4. Stone & Gloom – both are very good items but are a lot alike. Gloom having the lower enhanced defense, has the higher resist all. Wile stone having the higher defense has the lower resists all. Even though defense is cool and all defense is not all that needed.
5. 160/60% ias- this was once the best armor you could get for a Smealot. What it is is jeweler’s elite armor of the whale. It has 4 sockets in it with a large boost to life. In the sockets you add 4 40% more damage and 15% faster attack speed jewels.
6. A quick list of cheap items: Griswold’s Heart, Lionheart, and Dark Adherent.
Guardian Angel or Chains of Honor– This item main strength is the, fact that it gives you a lot higher resist all witch is great verse classes that uses elemental attacks. Other then that it does not do all that well. It should not even be upgraded. Not given a number because it is a side item.
Enigma – mainly used because it has teleport on it. Making it a side listed item just to put in your stash.
Helm
1. Vampire gaze – I have used this item for a very long time. It is dependable for its 20 – 25 damage reduced by a %. Depending on what kind of helm you get.
2. Crown of Ages – nice helm I did not like that it did not have duel leech. Witch is needed since this build does player verse player and player verse monster.
3. Harlequin Crest- This helm is good, giving you a lot of things. But it does not give you enough damage reduced by a %. The plus to skills on it is great for some one that wants to use smite more then they would use zeal.
4. A list of cheap easy to get items rare circlets with duel leech and resist all, Tals mask, and well what ever you can find should work.
Veil of steel – this item alone has 50% resist all. It is needed for a side list of items to be kipped in your stash.
Belts
1. Thundergods Valor – It basically gives you 20 in strength and 20 in vitality with absorb in lighting.
2. Verdungo’s hearty cord- this belt is like O my god cool. 40 to vitality and 15% damage reduced, and 10% faster hit recovery. This thing does a lot for you when you use it. Works well when it is perfect and used with a storm shield.
3. String of ears- this is the cheaper verdungo’s hearty cord. Really easy to get Just try to find one with 15% damage reduced.
Now for the belts you want in your stash.
Snowclash – This belt is used for fighting some one that uses mainly cold damage.
Rings & Amulets
All rings and amulets are just items you want to keep around.
Raven frost – You could all most never go wrong with this ring. Why, it gives cannot be frozen, 150-250 attack ratting, and absorbs 20% cold damage.
Dwarf star - Absorbs fire damage, and plus 40 to life.
Wisp Projector- Once again I am adding a ring that gives you absorb an element. This one is lighting.
Bul-Katho’s Wedding band- Plus .5 life per level, and plus 1 to all skills.
Angelic halo and angelic wings- this thing gives you plus to attack ratting per level. Only use this if you feel that you need more attack ratting. As in you do not use smite very often or you do not have a highlord’s wrath yet.
Highlord’s wrath- Speaking of witch, this things is awesome 20% faster attack speed, .375% deadly strike per level, +35 lighting resists, and plus one to all skills.
The rising sun- you become all most immune to fire. Great verse Diablo, some of the monsters in hell, and fireball sorceress.
Metalgrid- all resists of 35% and 400-450 attack ratting.
Shields
Like rings and amulets shields are something you want to switch around. Unlike rings and amulets you only want to keep around 2 or 3 shields.
Sanctuary- this thing is very versatile. You get a nice block rate with it. Really high resist all. Good amount of defense. Then to top it off you have slow missile charges as well.
Exile- this shield is one bad mother. Even thought of as bad mannered. The main thing set around this shield is that it gives you really high defense plus a % chance to cast life tap.
Storm shield – This shield used to be the best shield in the game. Now it was set to the side when the cap for damage reduced is set at 50%. But it still has it uses. Mainly the fact that it has 35% damage reduced, 25% resist lighting, and 60% resist cold. I like to state that an um rune is my favorite thing to add to this shield. It has a very low amount of smite damage.
Spike thorn - 20% damage reduced. Then add on that, player verse player does not lower the damage done to attacker per level. Makes that a sweet little shield to use. Bad things is that if you where not going to win the duel any ways you will still die and they will be at a lose of a large amount of life. Also it does give the most amount of smite damage for normal shields; it is still nowhere compared to elite paladin shields.
Herald of Zakarum- this is one of the shields in this game that is loved the most by all paladins alike. The elite version is the one you really. So you can do the most smite damage you can. Put an um rune in it, or give me your ear. Just pulling your leg, I mean ear. HAHA
Rhyme or Ancients Pledge- these 2 shields when added to an elite paladins shield with resist all are good for the poormans choice. Rhyme is just a little better since it has magic find and cannot be frozen.
Boots
This is a small list of boots to get.
1. Gore Riders- these boots are really good for its deadly strike, crushing blow, and open wounds.
2. War Travelers- these boots are great for when you have maxed deadly strike. Because they give you 15-25 damage to your zeal attack witch is added in before you add the damage given to skills.
3. Now for poormans choice go with boots like Immortal kings and Aulders advance.
Gloves
Another small list of items needed.
1. Dracul’s Grasp- The main thing about this is that you are getting like 5% chance to cast life tap and 25% open wounds.
2. Steelrend- these gloves are all about doing more damage.
3. Lavaghout- are the poormans ideal gloves. Also I would like to say that laying of hands, magnus’ skin, and sander’s taboo are all good items as well.
Bows & Javelins
Now lets talk a little about the ranger side of this guide.
1. Widowmaker- this bow is ideal for the fact that it gives you guided arrow. But not only that you are getting some magic damage as well. It does have 33% chance of deadly strike. This bow just screams ranger all over it.
2. Eaglehorn- this things is tight because it gives you attack rating with a good amount of damage added on. Not only that but it is fast as well.
3. All 3 of the elite javelins are great. But at the same time you could do a lot better with elite rare weapons. Also you can get a really good cheap rare one. That will out do deathbit by far.
Expiable of a godly rare javelin and a good one are.
POKE STAB
Winged Harpoon
400% enhanced damage
300 to attack rating
40% faster attack repairs 1 every 5 sec
NOOB USER
Winged Harpoon
250% enhanced damage
150 to attack rating
repairs 1 every 5 sec
4. The poormans pick death bit throwing battle dart.
Charms
Now for the last list of stuff that isn’t a list at all. Get Annihiles, after that you need to work with charms on these things: resist all in hell max it, 48% faster hit recovery, then after those are done you want fine small charms, and small charms of vita. If you have room go with small charms of run walk. Never get plus to any Paladins skills grand charms.
Now that you have what armors to wear, lets talk about what weapons to use.
The weapons you want to use is really the tricky part. Basically because you need a weapon that will work for you when you zeal and when you smite. Like for say a ethereal headstriker with a zod rune in it will not help out with your smite skill. But it will help out with your zeal skill. So it is not the kind of weapon that will help a Smealot. Also the silence phase blade since it is great for smiting, it is really lacking in the damage department. Henceforth I really suggest you do not use these 2 weapons for this kind of paladin. But if you take a Stormlash add in the fact that it has 15% chance to cast level 10 static field, 33% chance to do a crushing blow, a good range for damage, and even a 20% chance to cast level 18 tornado. Knowing all that I hope you see that all of the things there can work with smite and zeal. Just trying to decide to use a sheal rune or a ber rune is the question here.
This is a list/chart of things that work with smite and things that do not work with smite.
1. Plus to skills helps out a lot because it is the only thing that gives you more damage with the 2 skills smite and holy shield.
2. Crushing blow and open wounds are the only 2 things of the open wounds, crushing blow, and deadly strike that work.
3. Plus to damage from as in the +60-120 and the +40-85 from the 2 weapons The Redeemer and Astreon’s Iron Ward. Are the only two weapons that give you more straight damage you will ever find.
4. Deadly strike does not work with smite at all.
5. Plus to damage from charms or jewels even enhanced damage jewels do not work with smite.
6. The increased attack speed that is on the weapon only will effect the speed of your smite.
7. The range of you weapon will have the same range as your smite.
This is a list of things that really help with zeal.
1. As much deadly strike as you can get.
2. The highest average damage you can get.
3. 4 frames per sec zeal is the only speed you want, and the fastest speed you can get.
4. Try to use a weapon that has a range of 2 or more.
5. A large amount of elemental damage will help you out in the long run.
6. Also if and when you can try to use % chance to cast a skill on attack. I have found that static field, enchant, and life tap work wonders.
7. Try to use weapons with a base speed of 0 to -30.
8. Try not to use slow target it is really bad mannered.
Now I will give you a list of weapon to pick from I will a be giving each weapon a point for each thing on the list above. If there is a negative thing on the weapon I will subtract a point. The poormans pick in this list is what you can get really.
Ethereal Stormlash with a zod rune (8) – Why well it gives you a large amount of damage and like I listed above there are a large amount of good things that this weapon has.
Crescent moon rune word(5) – Now for why, well for one I use it now on a myth sword. I love it. But I did not count that as a point. But to be fare it does have some weakness like for say it does not do a large amount of damage like that stormlash I just listed. It does have some great things on it like has static field, it does do a good amount of damage, and also the – to targets lighting resists just gives you more damage done. Witch I think that this weapon does the most amount of lighting damage from static field from any of the weapons out there.
Doom rune word(5) - Ok why well it has a lot of great things about this weapon. But it is really bad mannered to be using such a item. The good things are it gives you level 18 volcano on striking at 5% of the time. A large amount of enhanced damage from 330-370%. Plus 2 to all skills. 45% faster attack speed. Deadly strike and open wounds. So why try to over kill it with holy freeze? Yes beat who ever you are fighting, but why bore them to death?
Eternity rune word(1)- That’s right a 1. Ok why it gives a good amount of damage and crushing blow. But it has slow target on it.
Hand of justice rune word(4) – good amount of damage you can do, increased attack speed, deadly strike, and well even if you are getting all that fire damage from a aura I really do not see any harm from it. Like I saw from doom.
Kingslayer(5) – Yes that is right a 5 open wounds, crushing blow, vengeance that is your elemental damage right there, a good amount of damage, and increased attack speed.
Call to arms rune word(3) – 1 to all skills, increased attack speed, and a good amount of damage can be done with this weapon.
Fury(4)- Like they say, a oldie but goody. A descent amount of damage done, increased attack speed, open wounds, and deadly strike.
The redeemer(3)- and a high 3 at that. I think I said why in the past.
Astreon’s Iron Ward (5)- could have been a 6. It has slow target on it. WHY BLIZZARD WHY?!?!?
Bloodmoon(2)- open wounds and sort of good damage range.
Lightsaber(4)- Ok the damage bites so I did not add on with that. Other then that it has a chance to cast on striking, increased attack speed, range of 2, and elemental damage.
Azurewrath(4)- plus 1 to all skills is the reason it is on this thing. After that it is about elemental damage, increased attack speed, and a range of 2.
Razor’s Edge(4)- Ethereal is the way to go with these. That is why I gave them a 4. good damage, increased attack speed, deadly strike, and open wounds.
Elite The Atlantean(2)- Plus 2 to all skills, then you have a fare amount of damage.
Now this list is more of ‘Yes it works for both but does not do very well with the list above.” kind of list.
Griswold’s Redemption
Sazabi’s Cobalt Redeemer
Lastly Bul-Kathos’ Tribal Guardian

Chapter 3 Fine Tuning Your Car
I decided to do this, as it’s own chapter. It goes with chapter 2 because in this chapter we will talk about. What items should be used with what items. Since this is version 1 I would like some responses on your ideals for these groups of items that you have found to work together. The kind of groups lets call them sets. That we are looking for are weapons and shields that work well with Zeal and smite. From our armor we are looking for 75-95 resist all in hell, 50% damage reduced by a %, and some thing that gives you a little extra kick. I will start this with the groups of items that works for me. Also I would like to add in some of the finer points of confusing people. O yes if you are just starting out with this game or are just a good old poorman, go ahead and skip this chapter or read the first set of items.
Poormans pick of good stuff.
Weapon1: lightsaber
Weapon2: deathbit
Shield1: Rhyme Kurast Shield
Shield2: Ancient’s Pledge Kurast Shield
Cuirass: Griswold’s heart 3 perfect topaz
Helm: Tals Mask or steal skull
Ring1 and 2: Cathan’s Seal
Gloves: Lavaghout or Magus’s skin
Amulet: Rare or crafted amulet, that gives plus to skills, life or manna leech, or maybe some resist all.
Belt: String of ears or maybe Credendum
Boots: Aulders they are easier to get then immortal king’s boots.
With this set you can do mf runs in act 1 hell. At the same time in each game you go in you can do a countess run as well. You can do both things in act 1 hell. The pit is an area that you can get any item in the game from killing the monsters there. Giving you a chance to get items to trade with or get better items to be used. Try to keep all of the good small charms that you can find. If you are just starting out try to start out as a ladder charter. They have a larger amount of items to get. Also you can make runes that are worth your time trading with. Or even make some items that you really want. You can get up to 97-171 mf with the items I listed that is not a lot, but it is a great start.
A dream set up.
Weapon1: Ethereal Stormlash
Weapon2: Widowmaker with a Lo rune
Shield1: Perfect Sanctuary Kurast shield
Shield2: Arrows
Cuirass: Elited perfect shaftstop 40% Ed / 15 max damage
Helm: 20% damage reduced elited vampire gaze 40% Ed / 15 max damage
Ring1: Perfect Raven frost
Ring2: Dwarf star
Gloves: Dracul’s grasp
Amulet: Highlord’s wrath
Belt: thundergod’s vigor
Boots: Gore riders
Charms: maxed out all resists in hell, 1 annihulus, 48% faster hit recovery, rest are fines, vitas, and faster run walk.
In this set of items, you have a large amount of things needed. I could have switched out the shield for an elited Herald of Zakarum. But I wanted slow missile for when I was swarmed by bone spirits or chain lighting from Black Souls. I have 50% damage reduced, Absorb in each element, a chance to cast life tap, a chance to cast static field, a chance to cast tornado, a large amount of defense, and good amount of damage.
Your never going to hit me set up.
Weapon1: King Slayer, you pick
Weapon2: Fury, you pick
Shield1: Exile in an ethereal Vortex shield with resist all on it.
Shield2: Stormshield
Cuirass: Stone elite armor (500-600 base defense)
Helm: Elite Stealskull 506 defense if perfect.
Ring1: perfect ravenfrost
Ring2: Wisp Projector
Gloves: Elite Hellmouth or Steelrend
Amulet: Highlord’s wrath
Belt: Verdungo’s Hearty Cord 15% damage reduced
Boots: elite Gore riders
Charm: Just like “A dream set up.”
In this kind of set, it is based around really high defense. Some of these items are theorized in to this. Like the Stealskull I basically looked it up on the Arreats Summit. Saw that it could have a very large amount of defense, so I added it in. I also did not want to add a range attack with it. I first thought yes I really should then, I saw that there was no chance for 50% damage reduced. These items are for when you need to fight some one that does not have an attack that ignores your defense. Also if you find that they are having a really hard time hitting you. You might want to press w and have the full effect of 50% damage reduced with a higher % deadly strike. Of course I have never used this set so. I would like a lot of feed back about it. Not from tests in less you all really want to. But from what you think from just seeing it.
Mage killing set up.
Weapon1: Lightsaber or silence rune word
Weapon2: Shouldn’t need a second weapon
Shield1: Sanctuary or Herald of Zakarum um rune (witch ever one has more resist all)
Shield2: If you are not using a weapon in slot 2 then why use a second shield?
Cuirass: Guardian Angel or Chains of honor
Helm: Veil of Steel
Ring1&2: Raven frost, Wisp Projector, and/or Dwarf star
Gloves: Doesn’t matter
Amulet: Metalgrid with 35 resist all or The Rising Sun
Belt: Thundergod’s Vigor or Snowclash
Boots: does not matter but if you need it Tearhaunch
Charm: same as “A dream set up.”
I do not condo* to being mean to a class that relies on elemental damage. But I also do not like it when some one likes to do one hit kills. So I have given you all this set up of items, so that way if you ever have the need to beat some one like that, go right ahead.
Pure Ranger, anti necromancer / hammerdin.
Weapon1: doesn’t matter but you might want to use a Crescent Moon for it’s magic absorb.
Weapon2: Widowmaker
Shield1: Sanctuary
Shield2: arrows
Cuirass: Enigma
Helm: does not matter
Ring1&2: 2 angelic halos
Gloves: Dracul’s grasp
Amulet: Angelic wings
Belt: does not matter
Boots: does not matter but anything with 40% faster run/walk helps a lot
Charms: Again same as “A Dream Set Up”
Like I said I do not like people that like to do one hit kills. It makes for a very boring fight. I have not been able to do this yet because I have not gotten my hands on a Enigma. At least with this you can give them a good fight. Or might even kill them.
Now there are better ideals for what charms to have. It all comes down to what to use with what situation you are in. Like for say you are dueling verse melee only. You will be better off using a lot more fine small charms then if you are using resist all small charms. The charms you use are really there to compensate for what your weapons and armors are lacking. Also if you find that you are using smite a lot more then you are using zeal plus to combat grand charms are a good ideal for you.
Now just in case this is your first paladin or the first time you have played this game. The kind of damage you want to be doing in hell is 1000-2000. That is with zeal. That number is just the least amount and is just a round and about figure. It will look be different with different kinds of weapons. Also remember that the more average damage that you do is all ways better. Just as long as you do not loose these things they are, cannot be frozen, 50% damage reduced by a %, 48% faster hit recovery, and 75%-95% resist all in hell (player verse monster and player verse elemental casters), and 30%-75% faster run/walk speed.
All right, now that I am ending this chapter I know that it is really not over. Because I feel that there is more ways to put the items in chapter 2 together. So a lot of ideals are needed to make this chapter really work. Like item sets for good mannored dueling.
* I could not find the right word. I am looking for the word that means except, allow, and/or let. Sounds like Con-do’ne I think?

Chapter 4 Driving Your Car
This is where it all starts out. Now that you know what you want to build. Now we will go over how to use them items you have. I will be talking a lot more about strategies based around player verse monster. The great thing about this build is that if you can take things slow when you are getting beat, you can solo a hell game. But if you are a lot like me you do not play this game to do things on your own. That is why we have battle net. So also I will be talking about team play. Who to join up with, combo attacks, and tricks of the trade. I will be going over each one after another. How to do each and when to do them. I know that I do not know every thing, so I would all ways love some ones else’s ideals. Even if you hate me or want to have my kids.
Ok team play I am not one for great introductions so I will just start. You will want to team up with large groups of melee or range using classes; The Barbarian, Werewolves, Werebear, Amazons, Claw Assassins, a lot of the paladin builds, melee sorcerers, and the hardly seen poison dagger necromancers. Even if there is just 1 other melee or range user, stick with them. Some people do not like having some one else trying to work with them for one reason or another. If that is the case, argue your point or just let them be. Right now I will make one of those lovely list thingy’s.
Barbarian There is a lot of things you can do with them. Like when you two are fighting 1 monster that has a lot of life. You can stun them with smite. Then have the barbarian keep attacking it. Best thing to do with this kind of attack is sort of like this. Lets say you are “X” the monster is “O” and the barbarian is “Y” and this next line is a graph.
XOY
X- Wants to use smite attacks over and over again. To keep the monster in stun.
O- Sits there and takes the beating.
Y- Attack the monster with a attack like bash, frenzy, concentrate, berserk, double swing, or just a normal attack.
Now you can use a wall or some thing and have the barb just attack the thing as well. The ideal is to keep knockback from happening. Also the barbarians battle orders will just help you out, as well as your fanaticism helps him out. With large groups of monsters all you really want to do is to keep swinging with zeal. See if you are getting hurt at all, if things are too much leave the group. Use the hotkey for charge then go right back at another spot. Then start zealing again. Now if you get caught up in hit recovery use your hotkey for smite. Then attack with that skill. You can single out a monster and then take them away from the group with that skill.
Werewolves Like the barbarian you can use the XOY attack on a single monster. If they have a pet spirit out you do want to protect it a little. Also heart of the wolverine and fanaticism really works well together. If you are working with a carrion wolf you are in for a treat. Large groups will just fall at your feet. Because mass poison damage done to a group is just scary, exp when you have open wounds going. It is just one big bloody mess.
Werebear A well made Werebear is all ways a treat to work with. You should not need to use smite as much when working with them. That is if the bear has a good level of shock wave any level that is over level 10 is good. If they are a shock-a-bear. You really want to be in front of them most of the time let them shock wave the monster and you should just zeal away. This graph like thing is the next line you are “X”, monster/s is “O”, and the bear is “Y”.
YXO or YXOOOOO
Amazons This group is more or less known by a lot of people. If you have ever been in a game with a bow Amazon or javelin Amazon, that mainly uses range attacks. You will know how to do this. You need to play as the tank. Working with they’re valkyrie. As the Amazon attack with what ever she decides to use. I have a old friend that only plays as a Amazon. He mainly uses Freezing arrow. Basically to help make things quick and easy for me.
Claw using Assassins I hardly ever see the kinds that you would find in 1.09 any more. Now most of the melee assassins that I see are whirlwind assassins. These kinds of assassins I treat a lot like a barbarian. Just I cannot get a large amount of life and defense from them.
Other melee based Paladin builds A lot of the time I try to stay away from them so that there is a very large amount of people getting fanaticism. But when I am forced to work with one I ask if they have a second aura. If they do I ask if they could use that one. As with common sense I only ask that if they have fanaticism as well. If they do not have one, do not want to use it, or it is better to just have both of us using fanaticism. I will work with them. Under stand that some times having us both use that aura will keep us having our normal damage. I don’t know. ßUMMM that is not some thing you would not want to read, is it?
Melee Sorcerers and the Rarely seen Poison dagger necromancer These two are hardly ever seen. But I know that 2 of my friends has these two builds sitting around in they’re accounts. I have even seen people that come to these forums talking about them. So I would like to talk a little about working with each. Now a Smealot/Ranger is not the best kind of paladin to be working with them. I think that a Avenger would be a lot better working with these 2 kinds of builds. But They can get a faster attack speed wile using fanaticism. Not only that but if the necromancer has some curses that works like Lower resists. What you should do is see if you have a spare weapon in your stash that does all most the same damage your main weapon does and has a good amount of elemental damage. Working with both classes at the same time is a really good ideal. Because the Sorcerer can and most likely will use enchant on you and the necromancer. Giving you a lot more attack rating and more damage. Working with a group of 3 you, the sorcerer, and the necromancer is ten times better then working with either one. From what I have seen in this game. O yes XOY attacks work with these two as well, well it works with most melee using builds in general.
Now to talk about combos, and tricks you can pull off. There is 6 main combinations that you can work with. They are smite then zeal, charge then zeal, charge then smite, smite then charge, smite charge then zeal, and charge smite then zeal. These combos are used so you can move around in the battlefield, control groups, and keep you from taking large amounts of damage. It also keeps you from falling asleep….
Now there are some things that you can do that will tell you where the monsters are. The best thing to do is to have a bow that shoots magic arrows. Then shoot in a full circle, when you see that you are leeching life or manna. Keep shooting in that direction. This is best to do when the monsters are really far away, or in act 4 “The River of Flame.” Also know that the Griswold’s redemption has a little trick. If you can get one with 4 sockets in it and you do not have a raven frost yet. If you add 2 sheal runes you will never be slowed down from cold damage other then holy freeze. Now your run/walk speeds will slow down. But that is not a big deal. Now lets talk about iron maiden, not the 70’s-early 90’s speed metal band. The curse, there is monsters in this game that will use it on you. The best way for me to fight them was to switch to javelin and shield when I see them. Then I use smite. When and if it they use it on me, I hit my hot key for throwing. Now this only works half the time. Because I have to force my self to switch attacks right away. Now I know that you have read about me talking about hotkeys. What I am talking about is the F1-F8 Well those are the keys I use most of the time. Keys 1-4 are all melees and my throwing attack, F5 is vengeance or fanaticism, F6 is fanaticism or holy shield, and f7 is holy shield if F7 is needed at all. I keep my fingers hovering the hotkeys. So that way I can do a very quick change of attack. Now for shift and walking. When you do this you are getting the full benefits of your defense and block rate. Witch will help you out player verse monster and player verse player. Also if you have a good fast computer and a cable connection, all most all of the missile attacks you can just move around. But you cannot dodge bone spirits and guided arrows. Well you can easily out run bone spirits but they still track you.
I am all ways finding new tricks that you can pull off so this chapter can as well keep being remade. Also if there is a large amount of people making smealots / rangers, they too will see what I mean after doing some questing games. I wanted to add this chapter in because not every one sees the things a person can do with the build that they use. Now saying all that I have wanted to say about this lets move on.

Chapter 5 Running your Friends over
Ok we have gone over every thing else. Lets start talking about the best most juicy stuff, dueling. Did you know that the looser of a duel is actly the winner. Freak you out yet? See a looser learns more from loosing then the winner. The winner mainly learns what they did to win. Wile the looser learns a lot more they learn what items they should have been using, they learn what attacks they used works the best, they learn what attack the winner used to watch out for, and they also learn that they are not the best. But do not go around letting others win all the time. Or you will never learn any thing at all. The best way to learn how to duel is to go out and duel, take any one on. Do this when you feel ready to duel. Never listen to any one that says you will never beat this kind of class or build. They only say that because they do not know how to beat that build or class. There are classes and builds that I do not know how to beat. That does not mean that I cannot beat that build or class with this build. What it does mean is that I need to duel that build or class again when I am ready to do that. There is one weakness for this build that is there is no real strength, but the strength of this build is that it has no real weakness. This is not a V-8 it is a V-6. The closest you can get to a V-8 is by using a weapon that does a very large amount of damage. The weapons you have for killing others are you have a range attack that can shoot from just on screen too as far away as you can get like 2 or 3 screens away, you have a high damage melee attack that needs to have a attack ratting, you can move around really easily most of the time you do not need to teleport to move at these ranges, and you have a melee attack that does not need attack ratting. The items that I have talked about lean on the bad mannered side of dueling. But this build should be able to work for good mannered dueling I just need to find the items needed for this. I was kind of jumpy to talk about how to beat other classes. I decided to talk about just that. To give you the reader a ideal on the things you can do to beat some of the most common builds on the pubby dueling games. If you need to beat some of the less common builds out there you will have to work that one out your self.
Sorceress- I do not see a lot of these in pubby dueling games. Other then the fireball sorceress, she is a joke if you went with the maxed out resists. With the anti elemental set. Most of the time you will not even need to use that set to beat one. Hey if they can beat you they are a great player.
Amazon- Ok if they use a bow. All you will ever need to do is charge in then zeal or smite. Also if they are using strife you will have to get them on your screen then make a large circle around them. Then charge in with zealing or smiting. If they use a javelin you will have a problem if they stick to being defensive. Best thing to do with a javelin Amazon is to use a widowmaker dodge they’re throwing attacks then shoot guided arrows. The amazons biggest weakness is these three skills dodge, avoid, and evade. This is why when you make those skills trigger. It only effects that first attack witch is most of the time charge. Then they have to sit there and take what ever attack you use next. The way they take damage is a lot like how a barbarian takes damage with whirlwind it will not show till after they are done with they are done with the skill.
Barbarians- these barbarians can be a lot of trouble, if you do not know what you are doing. When you do fight them you should test them first with this. Hold shift and zeal, do that once see if it worked at all. If it did keep it up. If it did not, use shift and smite. If that does not work, guess what it is a good barbarian. Let them know that when the next match starts. Now let them beat you while shift smiting them. Next match starts. You will find out what kind of person you are dueling. If they say some thing like dumb noob, do not feel bad about what you will do next. Because they never seen this before. Go as far away as you can from them. Get the distance like 2 or 3 screens away. Use widowmaker now if you have one. If you do not that’s cool go with the javelin. You want to start this by a corner. While they are running at you shoot when you are ready. You have two chooses on how you will kill this barbarian. You can dodge they’re whirlwinds shooting them as they go by. Or you can go to that corner that I was talking about. You need to be in side that corner. Then use shift smite see when you are using this. They cannot use whirlwind effectively and mostly they will not attack or they will use they’re second attack if they have one. Either way you just won your self some barbarian’s ear. Some of the really good barbarians have a trick that all most beats your corner trick they just whirlwind to just hit you once then run back. If they are doing this you are better off using the dodging whirlwind shooting attack.
Assassins- There is a lot of assassins that you will just not like, like trappers. I only say that because there is a large amount of them that will sit in town and use traps that are out side of town. If you see trappers that will not sit in town, thank them for doing that. If they are a town trapper sit there with your absorb stuff on in full effect. Make them loose the traps sooner or latter they have to come out or leave the game.
Necromancer- Now I have not had the chance to fight them with this ideal. You want to use the anti necromancer set that I gave above. Right now this can only be done on ladder with a paladin. It is still a hard duel to win. If they cannot teleport, you have the win. You will all ways be able to get away from them using your guided arrows to pick away at they’re life. If they do have teleport I really cannot tell you if you will beat them or not. Like I said I have not been able to test this yet or have meet some one that has done this.
Druids- I have not dueled the one that every one I have seen talk about yet the wind druid. So I do not have any thing to say about them.
Paladins- there is a large amount of paladin builds to fight. Since I have fought a lot of paladins. But from what I have seen from temple I will not go over how to beat them. Honestly if you can beat another paladin you did it with the upmost ease. Like if you beat a zealot. You did wile using smite or zeal. If you want you could beat a hammerdin. You would have to be able to stay out side of they’re blessed hammers wile shooting. Or if you have that really fast computer and cable modem. That in its self is a trick that right now, I cannot pull of with my slow computer.

chapter 4 is nice.
the rest needs some work.
you need to work on your formatting, and spelling/grammar(just copy/paste into word, use spellcheck, have someone read it and help, for instance u use the word "witch" and you want the word "which".
your item section is rather not thrilling, and your reasoning for selecting items is not the greatest.
its too long. I think some editing would get some of the "fat" carved off and make it a much better read.
it is a good start, it will need probably 2-3 more versions before it is ready for a sticky.
i give it 2.5/5 stars

I dont think widowmaker needs the angelic set...
A trick with Widowmaker is, when the arrows are released, it you switch to your 2nd weapon/shield before the arrow hit your opponent. The Open Wound, Crushing Blow, Deadly Strike, Chance to cast% of that side gets applied.
so using kingslayer/exile combo or lacerator/Up'ed Swordback Hold for cheeseness.
or the good old lacerator/HoZ.

Ok I did do this on mircosoft word. I do see how I messed up with witch/which. I will go and change that right now in mircosoft word.
your item section is rather not thrilling, and your reasoning for selecting items is not the greatest.
Understandable, what should I change?

What should I take out?
Thank you for helping Phelix.

I did see one used by a friend of mine Skull. He does not even play any more. I will remove it on V2.0. Thank You LovelyGods.

Your right I too am wondering what I was thinking.
A trick with Widowmaker is, when the arrows are released, it you switch to your 2nd weapon/shield before the arrow hit your opponent. The Open Wound, Crushing Blow, Deadly Strike, Chance to cast% of that side gets applied.
Added it. Just as long as the weapon and sheild can still do just fine on they're own I will not complain. I will add in your name for giving that info in.
P.S. >.< I must stop promoting BM tactics t.t
If you really want me to I will remove some of the info I gave. If you can give me a better way. Like the ideal of using slow missile on a necromancer to make those bonespears move at really slow speeds.
of if u like deadly strike........use a 6skt weapon with LoLoLoLoLoLo
Why not just use headsriker for a cheaper price wise move. You still have to be a higher level, but then again there is other weapons that are better then a headstriker even the ethy upgreaded one. It still is a cool weapon tho.
