View Full Version : Next Patch: How Would You Fix Weaken?

I believe I'm not alone in thinking that weaken is about useless. Why make them deal less damage if you could instead Dim/Decrep them to achieve a better effect? The rest of the curses have a fairly unique niche...but weaken is just kinda there as a prereq.

Suping up the damage reduction doesnt seem like it would do much good...

It would be interesting if they added a 2nd effect to weaken...or(highly highly doubtful theyde do this) create a new curse in its place.

Here's 2 ideas.

Weaken Version 2.0: Normal Weaken + Lower Enemy Defense.

Stupify: Normal Weaken + Forget one random special attack/ability for curse duration(would be fun for bosses, especially on diablo if his lightening got forgotten :clap: )

Again...Blizzard won't do it, but if they were what would you want?

Lowering enemy defense would be a good idea. Then I might even use it over Decrep. I would definitely be switching between the two if they made Weaken have a second effect.

But alas, I'm still waiting for Blizz to fix the Fe bug in SP...

The thing that convinced me that Blizzard really isn't going to do ANYTHING to change Diablo (other than maybe reducing the number of servers to save cost when the number of games dies down) is that they have done zilch about the in game spambots. Mostly they are just annoying, but I've had a couple of close calls when they blocked my view of what was going on with their spam. If they were spening a dime on this game, they'd CDkey ban those suckers as fast as they pop-up. Even at the $10.00 that D2 is going for in the bargain bins, the cost of getting new copies would drive them out of business.

I think lowering defense would be really cool. Also, if you have a screen full of messages, just hit the N key to clear them all. That's what I do, at least after squelching them.

no they don't, but they should add it just for this curse ;)

It'd be invaluable pvp though.

What about just making it stackable with other curses, in the same way that Attract currently does. Weaken + AD could be rather tasty...

hehehe, how about BM + IM against a WWing barb (hitting your summonings, of course ;) )? Wow, if curses were stakable even WEAKEN would have a use.

Weaken + Decrep = 17% damage. That'd be quite nice.

that's a nice idea, sort of an "enchant" for necros.

I'd use it on an iron golem.

I would remove weaken all together, and instead i'd like to see a skill something along the lines of teleport, but not me teleporting, the skill could be called "return to me" where when cast, all your minions would teleport back to your location in the form of a human shield around you.
Good for unsticking the mercs that seem to get stuck all too often

Id say keep weaken, but make it be able to reduce damage by 60% at level 20 and apply to all forms of damage. That would make it a useful curse in pvm and pvp.

Or make it a synergy to decrep. Id like both amp damage and weaken to be synergies to decrep. Every point in amp gives 2% more enhanced damage tp decrep, and every point in weaken gives -2% more enemie damage. Thats just kindof a basic idea, but I think that (fine tuned) it could be a good idea.

if your description of decrep with it's synergies was true I could make a hybrid mojo/venomancer. THAT'd be fun.

i think they should nerf all the curses so weaken doesnt seem like it sucks so much. I would also do something so that the curses got more effective with more points, its insane that necros can have insanely powerful skills, for all 10 skills in a tree(except maybe weaken) without the need for any synergies or even more than 1 point...name anohter class with such an effective tree?

they could replace weaken with delerium, maybe a modified version where you morph into random enemies. or, your enemies turn into stygian dolls possibly. would be nice vs gloams. call it transmute or metemorphasis or something.

How about the "Defense Curse"?

It's the only other non-necro curse in the game, and I think that it'd be a meleemancer favorite, as the -defence scales with lvl.

I'd like to see it reduce the monsters Defense as well as their attack damage, much like a weaker version of Amp.

Or something a bit more intresting, along the lines of a curse you cast on your minions which increases their attack speeds and r/w speed at the cost of 5-10 life drain on the minion for the time of the curse.

It would be rather fun to see.

Na i got an idea... replace WEAKEN with 'Life Drain' curse above thier heads LOOKs like Life Tap but a diff Color. Heh and it Drains the life of the target, while healing you. Kinda like a poison skill, it would have %X of life drained over Xsecs, increasing as higher lvls... and futher more Blood Golem would be the syenergy! Maybe Blood golem adds the Same affect BUT works ONLY on your MANA! (hince a Dual Leech kinda Redemption skill) :flip:

No, that would be too godly. BUT it would be balanced if it had a synergies.

Lag Spike gains bonuses from:

Raise Skeleton Warrior .25 seconds desynch per level
Raise Skeleton Mage .25 seconds desynch per level
Revive .5 seconds desynch per level

Weaken should cause the affected to target to deal 67% of their listed damage (including magic damage).

So multiply by 0.67 (like a mana shield kinda effect) instead of taking their enhanced damage attribute and 'adding' -33% to it.

That'd mean decrep is better for general pvm, but weaken is teh uber for pvp and/or extra strong/might'ed/magic using monsters.
