Decided on shaft over ed/life armor, I cant really get my hands on 4 insane jewels to make it more worth it, I made this barb all on a single player character editor, and experimented with shaft or a 100 life armor with 4x 28% ed jewels (i belive 30 is max for my level, i was trying to be realistic ;) ) and I found that I lost about 60 max pvp and about 100 life after battle orders by using shaft, BUT I gained 30% dmg reduction, and it made my shopping/jewel getting a bit easier :) So, shaft it is, now my question.

I'm going through my mules looking at all that I have for this barb so far, and I came across this jewel:

12-41 fire damage
1-85 lightning damage
7 Dexterity
16 cold resist

Useable at level 49. It seems to be a pretty good jewel, adding 13-126 damage with the fire/cold, lets assume 75% resist to both, so about 3-32 damage, assuming max resists, with no fire/light absorb. Of course, not all my pk victims will have max resists, so that could be significantly higher. On top of that, 7 dex will net me 7 more vitality, or 28 life, about 60 more after battle orders, which more than makes up for the life lost by not going with an ED/life armor, then a little cold resist vs orb sorcs and whatnot is just gravy.

So, do I go with my jewel, or try to get a good ED jewel? Thanks!

What weapon will you choose? That's sort of relevant if you want to compare that jewel with a +%ed one :)

Hey Matt, correct me if I'm wrong, but a further 1/6th PvP penalty applies to the damage from that jewel, leaving it.... somewhat lacklustre :P

Damage jewel all the way ;)

that 1/6th penalty effects the elemental damage as well? Ooooh, I have no clue, you are probably right, thanks tuna :) Can anyone verify this, neither of us seem 100% sure  Thanks! Yeah, looks like Ill go ed jewel, thanks guys!

I have a 30%ed jewel and a pretty decent one that I've been saving for some unknown reason, the stats on my "decent" jewel look like this:
+5 Min
+6 Str
+5 Dex
+14 Mana
________
This jewel would net you 11 more points in vitality, which in turn is 44 life.

Matt. Assuming you go for max berserk and synergies you will benefit a whole lot more from max damage jewels, just so you know :). It's a difference in several hundreds in max dam if you go with +%ed jewels or with max ones.

Of course, I don't know your exact build, but unless you already have it, I'd suggest you check it out for yourself with my nifty little calculator made for just these occations

Whaaaaaat? Wow, thanks DoB! I hadent socketed anything yet, but I was very sure ed jewels were better, didnt even think to check it... Thank you very much for telling me!! So, I aim for 15+ maxers? Also, any idea how that effects my armor choice? If the difference in damage is much higher with max's, then max//life armor could be a lot better than shaft (60 max as opposed to 15) Thanks again.

Max damage is always the prime target imo, thus the carnage jewels take precidence.

I have a 26% ED jewel sitting on a mule Matt, that I am incline to give you, because I traded all but one of my max dmg charms for Max Dmg jewels for my PK/PKK level 18 necro.

Is your account the same?

Matt
