View Full Version : PURE summoner
I just recently got back into playing D2, and i havnt played since 1.09. i decided to make my first char a puresummoner, aka a hunter. I have but one question, what order should i max my skills in? i was going to eventually max poison creeper, dire, grizzly, and HoW. But i cant for the life of me think of what to max first.
P.S. Get your crap together and realease your G.D. guide electric blue. i saw your teaser and thats what got me back into D2. Ive been waiting for like 3 weeks for your guide, but i couldnt handle it and started my hunter.
First off, welcome to the forum, fellow druid! :drink:
In your early levels Poison creeper rocks the crap out of everything,so that's cool to max first.
Then I'd proceed with Grizzly and Dire wolves for the synergies and at least a point into HoW until you can max it later on.
But then again I'm in no way an expert with hunters so yeah.. :cheesy:
i'm not real sure about the general posion creeper idea, buuuut..
yeh, if your going to use it, max it first. asheron had the gist of it. when you hit 30, drop 5 into dire wolves and 1 in grizzly. this will hold your grizzly over till hell difficulty, if you want. that part hasn't changed from 1.09. somewhere in the middle you can start throwing points into HoW, i expect it will need pumping as you move along since the spirits tend to be pretty fragile at low levels.
some general 1.10 advise, don't go to nightmare until your level 55. If you go to hell difficulty early, your screwed. stick with the nm baal runs as long as you can stand it. ;) also, max resists are almost a requirement in late game, although if you're really good at dodging you might be able to get away with sub-perfect resists. however, don't worry about poison resistance, even if it's maxed, 1-2 hits will suck u dry. just carry around 1-2 antidote potions. ;) there are tons of new items which could be used with this build, be sure to check them out. note some of the new items and cube recipes are only available on ladder.
welcome to the forum! :D
Thanks for the advice guys, also, thanks for telling me not to go to nm or hell right away, because as soon as i could i was going to 0_0.
Electricblue SHOULD be getting his pure summoner guide up here soon, so
That should help whenever he does.

Ok heres my current skill placement at level 33
Ravens 5 (blind is so damn useful in act 4 and other places)
Poison Creeper 1 (haven't decided if i invest more yet)
Spirit wolf 5 (very helpful till i got dire wolves)
Dire Wolf 10 (synergy to bear and makes them stronger)
Grizzly Bear 4 (gonna max fairly soon)
How 9 (helps me and minions)
Carrion Vine 1 (vine i use for now)
so far its been pretty good and i'll be getting a kuko anytime now which will help me in my baal runs.
*remember*-putting points into a summon gives them more resists
I hope that helps.

For your amusement, here's my HC Hunter rebuild (last one died while mfing in NM, due to the classic death for summoner builds; Lag and Curse enemies. I had to wait for the rebuild until I found more summoning equip.)
No rush, all fighting.
Skill points base at level 43:
5 in Ravens (Just because levels 1-5 didn't offer anything else. They were useful for awhile, though.)
20 in Spirit Wolf (Oh yeah, the resist thing. Should have seen them against normal Diablo at max level. First easy Diablo fight I've had on the ladder.)
4 in Dire wolf
14 in Grizzly
1 in Oak and 1 in How.
My bow is Riphook, because no one remembers how good it is. Slaughtering my way through NM right now at level 43 by using Spirit wolves.
Who would have guessed that spirit wolves would still be useful after getting dire wolves. :surprise:
by the way kuko owns with this build so if you can get it, although you can't leech with kuko unless you have crushing blow.
I like kuko for sure for mobs but for single monsters there are better bows out there. I prefer the huntermentalist route but if you go pure hunter then you have enough points to get a high level oak and HoW which I would do also max you dire and bear. As for vines I prefer carrion which allows me to not worry about leech.
Yeah, ive got a kuko. Best bow ever i might add ;).
I think alot of, people dont use riphook because you actually have to have ar to hit with it.
