My 55 level hardcore ladder character was just PK'd by what I think is a hack. There was no delay between hostile and kill, and I don't think he even put up a tp. Does anyone know about this?

hrm, maybe it was those tkpk or whatever you call it. it tps out and hostiles fairly quickly. they existed mainly in 1.09 but ive heard they exist in 1.10 now too.

theres also another technique, was in early 1.10, i dont know if it still works. a hammerdin would spam some hammers in throne, tp out, hostiles in a very short period. the hammers wouldnt have disappeared and hits everyone in the area. some being killed. since this is what early 1.10 (and ladder), most of them got pk'ed.

I think the Hydra, Meteor, Blaze, Blizzard etc. PK trick still works as well

I play strictly HC, and the only things I see that I believe you are talking about are BSpirit tppk's and Jav tppk's.

Although I haven't seen the latter, the BSpirit tppk I'be seen quite a bit. It is cheap, noobish, and I will kill anyone else I see using it.

Ok, back to sleeping and dreaming about lovely things, like sleeping.

The proggys to do this for 1.10 were briefly public, but they took them down thank god. however, you will run into this once in a while, so until blizzard gives us a non-hostile game option (yeh, like THAT'S gonna happen :P ). either enter public games at your own risk, stay out of public games, or (cringe) get your hands on a copy of mouse's maphack and only use the chicken feature. this feature being used by hardcore players, and the anti-trade hack feature being used by people who trade high end items, are the only excuseable reasons for using maphack.

blizzard should be scorned for not dealing with these problems themselves, but until they do, mouse's program is, unfortunately, the only real solution to the problem.

i apologize for even bringing this up garbad/elly/any admin's/mod's who read this, but with all the new people buying d2 because 1.10 is out, i feel they really should know about this option. we all know the bottomfeeders target the 'newbs', and all us vets know about mh anyway, so i don't see the harm in bringing up the subject in this light. if i am gravely mistaken, i apologize.

also, for anyone just learning about these features, i should point out that even discussing maphack on this forum is forbidden, and actually useing its 'cheat' features will get you the silent treatment. if the trade forum finds out that you are using it to cheat, they will ban you. with that in mind, if you ever want any help from anyone in these forums again, DO NOT use it to cheat!! don't pm me asking about it either, please, i will report such requests to garbad and elly. as i said, the only reason i brought it up at all was so that you would be aware of the option.

Doesn't it seem sad/stupid that a purely defensive fix would be so shunned, aka Blizzard as a reincarnation of 1984. If people are cheating, why not immediately patch? If the patch doesn't come, what's wrong with doing it yourself? I've never used a hack, in any version, but have to seriously consider it, given the number of hours that can be ditched by a cheater.

its easy to say they can patch this and fix it asap. but this actually takes time, they have to figure out different solutions and in a programming level, it may prove difficult to an extent if you cant really pinpoint what is causing this, it may look like something in-game, but it can look different in the code. i dont really know because i am not a blizzard employee. =/

then again, we know blizzard, they take their sweet time unless their servers are being hammered by a certain hack, then they would take drastic action.

Wouldn't it be relatively easy to allow a game selection for no hostility? That was duelers can play, but leave others alone.

you can change your stance to neutral but that is not logical to say that the other player will. Besides, coding for the function of declining of duels will take some time to code not to mention tests and all these cannot be done in a matter of a few months. Though I would love to see such a function.

Imagines in game message:

so and so has issued a challenge/thrown down the gauntlet/tries to bully vs somebody
somebody graciously accepts/declines/chickens out

That'll be cool

Blizzard have stated many times quite clearly that "no pk" button will never exist. They like it the way it is now and if you don't like it, go and make your own game and play that. (Paraphrasing a bit there.)

they also said that absentee spells, such as hydra, are deactivated (or wutever) after the caster has entered a tp... maybe i am wrong :(

I seem to think I've seen meteor burning after someone entered a tp

That's the whole idea, right? 1.10 was supposd to allow PKing and duels, but not in a cheap way. As it exists now, cheap PKs can still happen.
