View Full Version : Smite Weapon Advice
Switching between Lightsaber and Lacerator currently, but closing in on the final rune for Beast (Ber) or Silence (Vex or another Gul).
Going with Silence, resists would be maxed and damage would increase due to the +2 skills.
Beast would add damage and speed (using conc now instead of fanat, its a long story).
Anyone using Silence (phase blade?) for their smiter? If so, any issues? What about Beast (what weapon? pahse blade? zerker axe?)?
Thanks

Ahhh, yes, another curious mind seeking the answer to that age old question: What is the best smite weapon?
This question has popped up more times than i can count on my fingers and toes yet it never gets old. To answer this question really depends on class really. I currently have a v/t (smite/foher) and right now am using a 114 redeemer. This is one of the better weapons (imho) for a v/t because of the insane damage with minimal input of skills into smite. (I have max holy shield/fanat, but base smite skill). The redeemer, for those who dont know, has a +damage mod which is factored into smite damage, and multiplied by your fanat aura without a pvp penalty. This usually ends up in pretty lopsided melee duels. One thing about redeemer is its lack of resists; this limits its usefulness to just barbs, zeal/smite pallies, and werebear/wolf druids.
Silence phase blade is another great weapon for a v/t. It has lots of mods, and in some cases I would choose it over my trusty wizspike. The mods cannot be ignored: 2 to skills, 75 to resists, fhr. Best of all, no need to weapon switch when smite is needed. It has speed and better range than the redeemer.
Pure smite is different as well. Many suggest the lacerator for the chance for amp damage, good range, good speed. Potentially however, I think the best setup would be to use lacerator until amp damage goes off, then wep switch to phase blade. Ouch.
Hope this helped!
Excellent info, and fast too. I have a Redeemer sitting in my stash, so that's good news. So here's the follow up question...
I use Conc instead of Fanat. Does the Redeemer bug still come in to play?
I'll run the numbers with fantat due to Beast as well as the +2 skills due to Silence and see what that does for me.
Now all I have to do is find that extra Hoz for the weapon switch... D'oh!
If the Lacerators value is amp damage, does the unique ammy (atma's? )with amp damage have any use? I just picked up a +2/+2 Seraph and can't see how anything would be better, but am open to input.

You will need alot of IAS to use redemmer with conc. Not sure exactly but probally like 95 IAS. You should probally use the silence for the speed and skillz since your using conc.

I use a Silence Berserker Axe on my Smiter/Charger, and its great (my most valuable item along with my twin upgr HoZ's  ). It's got good range for Smite, and good damage for Charge. The high res is great vs Sorcs, Trappers, etc. And the +skills...
However, I need to fiddle a bit with IAS to get 6-frame Smite, even with Fanat. Since you're using Conc, it would be even worse. So it would be a toss-up between a Silence Phase Blade and a Beast. You can't make Beast in a sword, so probably either a Beast Warspike (for speed) or a Beast Caduceus (for speed and +Smite/Fanat). I haven't tried a Redeeemer, so can't comment on that.
I think it comes down to 3 issues:
1. Do you need the res from Silence? Or can you get it somewhere else (ie charms)
2. Can you reach your desired Smite breakpoint (prob 6-frames)? I haven't crunched the numbers, so you should check how much IAS you need for the Silence and Beast.
3. Are you a pure Smiter, or will you use another skill? If you'll be using Charge for actual damage, the Beast has more damage (and helps your attack rating). If you'll be using FoH, or going pure Smite, the +skills from Silence will be more useful.
If you're using the Lacerator for amp, Atma's is pretty much useless (unless you need the poison res).

Redeemer! Do NOT Smite without Redeemer. Mind you without Fant you will have problems, but you will with any weapon for that matter =\
Redeemer can be shealed an used with Highlord's or 20 ias gloves for the Breakpoint with Fant. I wouldn't suggest any other Smite v Smite or when Smiting characters with huge life. The damage is just too insane. I've tested and Redeemer can even rip apart a Smite Doom Pally (Holy Freeze and weap still does +2 Skills) before I even got to 3/4 Life.
Trust me, for big life chars or vs Smite the best you can get is a Redeemer (at least for non-BM) Also, as mentioned, if you plan to charge you should pick up another weap. Silence is crap for Charge with low damage. Redeemer's mods suck for charge. I would say the best Charge weapon is something with Open Wounds/Crushing Blow/Deadly Strike. Some sort of combo. Great runewords for this are Kingslayer (praised in Pravda's V/T guide) or Fury. Fury is definately the better Charge weapon with more OW and DS, but DS won't work with Smite. My suggestion:
Kingslayer - If you want to have a good weap for Smite and Charge on the same switch leaving room for CTA
Redeemer - If you only plan to melee with no Charge needed
Fury - If Charge is brought in use this with Redeemer on switch. Fury packs enough to even Smite casters or low life chars so you don't even need to switch to Deemer except for the big life/power chars.
Silence is decent for Smite but without the mods mentioned above you will get shreaded. Try and get your resists from elsewhere and pack one of the above. Anyone who doesn't believe me can Smite v my Pally using their Silence and we'll see :)
