Witchwild String (Exceptional Unique Bow)

Has anyone read these stats? This bow is really really good. It fires Magic Arrows at level 20, chance to cast amplify, all resistences + 40, 2 Sockets, and +1 percent Deadly Strike per level!

its nice.... i use mine upgraded to elite bow on the weapon switch to deal with PIs.

also... use atmas scarab with athat bow to invrease the amp % even more. ... great bow for a strafe zon. and great bow in general... if you put 2 ohms in it its VERY nice indeed

I agree fully. It's my favorite bow. I have lvl 87 Strafezon using an upgraded one in EuHCL.

Welcome to the forums :) Yes, we "Witchyzons" are almost fanatical in our love for our bows. I never used this bow in 1.09, I just hadn't gotten around to it. So I deceided to give it a try in 1.10 and was sold on it imediately. It is THE bow to use if you play HC.

My gear is very simple and unexpensive:
- WWS (Shael-Shael)
- Demonlimb and +26 Str shield on switch to cast Enchant on me
- crafted gloves (Knockback, 20%ias, 20%mf, fire res +11%)
- Tal's Mask (ias jewel)
- "Lionheart" Mage Plate
- Razortail
- War Travelers
- inventory full on mediacore life charms and some +max/ar charms and one annihilus.

NO don't use witchwild string, go get a windforce or BoTD because as we all know the only thing that matters on a weapon is the displayed maximum damage.

Just venting my anger at some idiots on this forum who put down WWS.

i will continue to put down wws, i dont play hardcore maybe it rules the roost there, but on normal ladder i go wf all the way, having played with both and playin probably twice as fast with wf, i dont play pure bow both either so.......let me have it omikron

This may be a dumb question, but what type of bow does it upgrade to? Crusader, ward, hydra, something else? I want to make sure I have the requirements to equip it.

This is better than WF in my opinion, especially if you can hit the 9/2 Strafe breakpoint. I attained it by using the following:

IAS/ED Jewel'd Gaze [ED isn't really necessary, IAS is though]
Cat's Eye - not one mod that doesn't help a lot
Shael+ED/IAS Jewel'd Upgraded WWS [Shael'd once cause I needed 1% more than IAS jewel woulda gave for 9/2 bp]
Whatever armor. Lionheart/CoH rule here, though.
IAS/KB Gloves
Any Belt. You could use Nos/Goldwrap if you need 10 IAS for next BP.
War Travs...the added damage on a low base damage bow really outweighs Gores in my opinion.

Also tried WF today with CoH and other nice stuff on my ama... CoH is nice, but WF is definately worse than WWS on my ama even though I was at 9/2 with it but she is of course build to use WWS so the comparision is invalid.

I think you need a 60 ias armor or 45 ias helm wouldn't you to hit that breakpoint?

Yes, I used 45%ias helmet to test 9/2 with WF. The 8/2 on WWS only required me to replace Lionheart with fervored Duriel's Shell.

Since this seems to be the place for "witchyzons" to hang out at the moment, thought I would ask how you make a strafe witchy. Obviously you need the bow, but what other equipment mods and skills go into a zon designed for the wws?

In the beginning..and now up to lv 49 (a2 NM) I have been wearing Twitch, Sigons gloves and boots, LORE circlet, Razorswitch, Manald ring and now a 27 res all ammy. ATM my WWS is Shael's Amn'd (got it that way) but think of dual Shaeling it (use the unsocketing reciepe). So I currently have 70 IAS.

I am still debating about how my setup will be later. Dual Shael, thats 40 IAS. LoH or any other glove (crafted or magical) has another 20 IAS. Now I could put an IAS jewel into a Duriels Shell or wear Lionheart. This will depend wether I can get a Cats eye. I plan to use Tals Ugly mask (TM) and could IAS that. The 40 res all on the WWS really opens many options.

BTW: You need 86 IAS to reach 9/2 strafe speed

To level, don't be tempted to put the points in to use Buriza. Worth waiting for. I personally just had a friend use his high level enchantress to enhcant me in games, but I'd say rely on your merc until you can use your Witchy.

If I understand your post correctly, there is no reason to wait to use a WWS. You can use it non-upgraded at lvl39. I didn't upgrade my Witchy until my mid-late 70s and after I had already completed acts 1 and 2 in Hell.

I also have a question for you witchyzons, though it's not based on a zon. I have several characters that use a witchbow and I do love it alot. My question is this; Assuming a character that doesn't require any extra IAS from the bow itself, no shaels, (ie assassin with BoS), what runes, items, etc, would you favor to socket in the witchbow? I ask because I have a 'sin in act 1 Hell and though she is in no danger of dying, I would like to increase the effectiveness of her bow as much as possible and thought I'd ask for some expert socketing opinions. Any suggestions are welcome.

Does WWS do magic damage if you're strafing with it? The arrows look like regular arrows on the screen.

No, Magic arrows are only shot when you use the normal attack (same goes for Kukos and Demonmachines exploding arrows)

A sin with a Witchy...Hm...have enough LL? Enough Knockback? ML?
Can you actually ever have enough IAS?

Yes, a 'sin with a witchy. I like challenging builds. Normal and NM were not much of a problem so, I didn't use all the gear I have available. Hell is tuff but survivable and I can now use some nice items. I have LoH and 20IAS kb hit power gloves, lava gouts, etc and goldwrap, 'smoke' armor, other stuff for resists and my witchbow is currently socketed with shael eth. BoS will give over 50 IAS and I only need a 10 frame speed (75 IAS) to keep up with venom. So, not needing IAS or kb, what would be good to socket my witchbow with?

Well, the last options are not realistic :lol: as I don't suppose you find the runes soon. Don't think the base damage is high enough that ED helps too much on the bow (OHM 50% ED), or if DS stacks if it comes from two sources, but unless you are lv 80, a LO would add 20% DS
