one quick question...
does faster cast affect rate of inferno damage?
ie with a bunchload of faster cast, could i do x damage over .5 seconds instead of 1 second?
hopoefully, this is true

Inferno is bugged so it does much less damage then displayed, and I'm not sure but I don't think faster cast has any effect on inferno.
If faster cast worked on inferno (I don't know if it does), it would only affect the intervals between firing. You'd still only have one inferno going at once.
inferno is bugged so it does iether 1/2 or 1/4 of the dmg displayed, so its not worth using now. i really loved inferno back in 09, so im really dissappointed about this. but about the fcr:
inferno displays dmg per second, but it, like all other spells that are dmg per second are actually dealt per frame (25 frames in a second). this doesn't change the amount of dmg dealt per second, but if you deal 2500 dmg per second, it will really be 100 dmg per frame.(not counting the inferno bug).
the easiest way i have found to explain this is by showing the steps in which inferno is used:
1) you click to use inferno
2) casting animation
3) inferno burns
the casting animation is effected by fcr meaning if you cast at 8 fps vs 10 fps, it will take you iether 8 or 10 frames to start the burning. but once the burning is started, nothing makes you deal dmg faster except +skills.
Regardless of bugging, Inferno is still ejoyable to use. I am currently working on one and will put a guide here for the build when I'm done.

The actual damage dealt is 28% of the listed value is what I've gathered from other posts on Inferno/Arctic Blast/Wake of Inferno.
I also think Inferno is a really cool skill, but for a build that wants to go anywhere, I'm afraid it's not an option in 1.10.
To give an indication: Inferno/Fire Mastery/Warmth 20 with +6 to Inferno, +5 all skills, +20 to fire skills will do an average of about 939 damage over 8 frames. I'm taking 8 frames here since 8 frames casting is closest to 'per second' in comparison and 8 frames cast is doable. Compared to a 9 frame casting the average damage is 1014 per cast, compared to 10 frames 1127 damage per casting.
Compared to Fire Bolt/Fire Mastery 20 with +6 Fire Bolt, +5 all skills, +20 fire skills (same gear setup, Leaf in a +3 Fire Bolt staff instead of a +3 Inferno staff): Average 3291 damage per cast.
Compared to Fire Wall/Fire Mastery 20 with about the same setup (+3 to Fire Wall instead of +6): 5680 over 8 frames.
Just the 939 over 8 frames should tell you enough...would you go into hell with a character that does less than 1k per hit damage?
Why? Because I want a challenge. A huge challenge. If I want to breeze through all levels, I'll get a Hammerdin or Overlord.
I'm not expecting this to be easy, and I know I'm going to hit the wall eventually, but I'm going to keep playing this build until I do.
After all, I can just go back to playing one of my many other better characters.

problem is it dosn't provide any advantage like some of the other underusedspells
Warcry stuns, Blaze you can keep moving, Enchant you can block, Leap Attack can block and is invulnerable in the air (most of the time) etc...
Inferno provide no benifit to go with it's bug + disadvantage
even in normal difficulty i noticed that my fireball sorc burns mana and destroys everything while my inferno sorc just burns mana :(
makes a good mule tho.
/me is waiting for the bugfix
