I started a new new assy after playing furysin for awhile. I'm using full Angelic set ATM... I found it to be an interstung set for an Assassin. W/ BoS on she can really waill on monsters. weapon switch is blood cresent sword & that has 33% open wounds.
Anyway I stared to think about alternate assy/ninja ideas & was wondering if anyone has tried any of these out:
sword assy
staff assy
flail assy (kinda like kno-chuc's (sp))
I have played a bowsin before in 1.09
BFsin uses these types of weapons for damage for the stars they throw. I was impressed at the speed & damage done by a assy using the weapon as melee. Yes I know you loose some skill attributes for lack of claws, but i have played claw assy's since the expansion. I'm just trying out different things out.
BTW, using a sword should allow charges too... right?
I guess this all started form making a pure trapper & ending up defending her in some melee messes she got tangled w/.

I've started work on a throwing knife Assasian- but I've gotten side tracked by some of my new Paladin sub-builds

Sword allows charges for the following skills:
TS
CS
PS
None of the blade skills get a bonus, you must have claws to use them.

Put on a bow as your weapon... then switch to blade fury skill and start to shoot.
I used Windforce as my weapon for a while as a BF Sin, just for the hell of it.
You don't even need aorrws/blots :) (hehe)

I agree you can get some decent mods that way, but you'll never get anything you haven't seen before. Basically you are a ranger with a WWS, since you dont have to pay for arrows. The worst part about using a bow, is you can't get pierce from the bow to work with your BF.
I'm not saying not to use a bow, I'm just saying that you can get far more interesting different stuff by using weapons that were meant to be melee weapons.

Lex.. I kinda knew that. I am the author of the Blade Fury Guide Ver 1.10 you see at the top of this forum (GRIN)..
I'm just saying that as foolish as it sounds, bows work too. And that they are a horrible choice for weapon.

Rits,
Sorry, I rarely look at who actually writes the thread. I wasn't trying to flame you or dog your choice. You are right bows do work, and they can be effective.
I just like to see people using different stuff. I'm a little niave, and I always hope someone will come into the forum with some wierd combination of gear and it will do something really wierd and fun.

but isn't a bow considered a 2 handed weapon & thus subjsect to the penalties?
But would chance to cast meteor like on skystrike work?

Hehe it's cool Lex.
I was just messing around. But hey do keep an eye out for a weird combo of gear.. I do the same.. I just always check whom is posting. I didn't need an apology... buuuttt now that you've given one I*ll accept it :)
Again thanks man.

No idea :) I only used a bow to see if it's work.. as soon as it did I switched back cause I looked stupid, having a bow in one hand and pointing the other.

Just for fun, I put an executioner sword on my assa...it was fun to watch, she seemed to swing it slowly, but it just because u get used to insane speed of assa.
Sword was nice had 20 resis all (cos no shield), and some insane stats. Best thing was high melee damage which meant she could actually leech life without needing to kick! U could even do a charge up with a normal release, great for fire resist, for which dragon tail sucks. Only really just started to play with it, do dont know ins and outs....let me know how u get on.
Cheers

Am currently playing a Monk Assassin (Staf/Kicker/Bladefury) on HC. Got to lvl 6x in a group game, at the end of Nightmare currently. Once I'm done with Hell (or die) I'll go write up a full post on it. Got a version of it on SC as well, but that one took a backseat to the HC version.

Aerath,
I'm really interested to see the guide. Best of luck in HC
Thanks... Monday we should finish NM and probably move on to Hell.
Ouch... Died as Conqueror in Nihlathak's Tunnels on NM... Poisoned to low life + Bonespear = Deeds.
Means I'll lack Hell experience unless I get a new char boosted over the weekend.
Will still sit down and write up the guide soon.
gogo TS with s/s! massive dmg output...Backuped by WoF  should work...

I've wanted to create an assassian for a long time, however, the idea of claw class weapons didn't interest me because I already had a dual weapon barbarian. I wanted my assassian in the likeness of a ninja or something. What weapons do ninja have? Swords, sickles, chains, stars and knives etc.
So, the way I figure it,
A kusarigamma (sickle with metal ball attached by chain) = flail
'ninja stars' = throwing knives
That couples with crazy kicks = a cool chain swinging, knife throwing, head kicking ninja that "flips out and kills people. Ichiban!

Actually bows are considered ranged weapons and they experience an even harsher penalty with the blade skills.
Also to Lex's comment about 2 handed weapons being able to be used with Blade skills. Blade skills can use anyweapon placed on the assassin but 2 handed weapons, ranged weapon, and 1 handed weapons all experience different factors before the 3/4 factor is applied. IIRC its 1 for 1 handed weapons 1/5th for 2 handed weapons and 1/20th for ranged weapons like bows. With bows, xbows, and the like your looking for the other affixes to deal damage. Crushing Blow is the biggest and best of those affixes for bladefury.

I'm thinking of making an alternate assassin as well, a sword using one. Havent decided yet whether to use a sword/shield or a two handed sword; tha'll probably depend on what I can find (gonna be an untwinked char too)
Anyway, heres what I'm thinking for skills..comments needed
20 TS
1 CS
For PS, either just 1 point for freezing, or maybe a mid level, around 7-8 for some element damage..need opinions on this
5 BoS (for a little extra boost)
1 CoS
Now, heres where I mainly need help. Should i max venom? I have absolutely no experience with using this skill, so i dont know if its worth it, but im thinking that would give me alot of extra damage.
If I go with what I've got there, plus maxing venom and all pre-reqs, that leaves me at about 52 points used. Including the skill quests (what is there, 2 or 3, whatever, I forget) that puts me at about level 50. Then I'm free to either put some more points into PS or get shadow master and boost it.
So, what do you guys think? Maxing venom worth it? More points into PS or shadow master? More BoS maybe? All comments appreciated.

You seem to know your Blade Fury stuff. I'd never heard the Ranged Weapons were even worse than two handed weapons... What does it do to mods like Crushing Blow and Elemental Damage? Is the % different for one handed, two handed and ranged weapons? The reason I ask is how good could Cranium Basher be for a Blade Fury Weapon?

Crushing blow, Open wounds, and any other ctc type mods do not experience the 3/4ths penalty or the reduction factor since they are mods not weapon damage.
AFAIK elemental damage is not reduced by the reduction factor its only reduced by the 3/4 damage. So a 1-2 dagger with 40-50 fire damage should do the same damage as a 20-40 bow with 40-50 fire damage when using blade fury. I have to assume that the elemental damage is not factored since charm elemental damage only goes through the 3/4 factor and no others.
Stick with 1 handed weapons if possible, if you have to go with ranged or 2 handed weapons you should be focusing on affixes that deal massive damage such as Crushing blow, ctc static and Open Wounds. Otherwise you won't get the power you need from your bladefury.
