View Full Version : A question I've never managed to answer.
How do Hammerdins (and Sorcs, but I'm focusing on Hammerdins right now) do SO much damage? Okay, synergies. I did the math, and Blessed Hammer barely break over 1k with maxed synergies. I must be doing something wrong.
I asked a Hammerdin on hammer damage, and he said around 4,300. Am I going crazy? Over 4k? Yes, +1 skill items. I understand. But getting over 4k with +1 skills must be horrendous.
So please, can any of you nice people shed light on the question?

Well, for hammerdins, they usually use the aura, Concentration, which adds a TON of damage to their hammers. (Use Hammers on the left-click button and Concentration of the right-click button.)
Sorcs and other characters also most oftenly use equipment with +'s to skills on them. Equipment like the Harlequin Crest (+2 to all skills), Lidless Wall (+1 to all skills), Skin of the Vipermagi (+1 to all skills), and skill charms are widely used on casters such as a sorc, making their damage a lot bigger.

A decent hammerdin doesn't have just +1 to skills. He can have +20 or more to combat skills. For example, 4 from Herald of Zakarum (2 to all skills, another 2 to combat skills), 1 from Viper, 3 from Heart of the Oak, 2 from shako, 6 from offensive skillers (let's assume he wears the cube and leaves a 4x2 space free for picking up stuff), 2 from amulet, 1 from Arachnid Mesh, 2 from 2x soj, 1 from Annihilus. That's +22 already and I'm sure I forgot something.
Blessed hammer also benefits from the Concentration aura which will add lots of damage and most of the items mentioned above add to concentration as well. However, synergies don't benefit from skill bonuses.

You must be miscalculating, or forgetting about some synergies, because my hammerdin, naked, does 3.5-3.6k per hammer.
Throw on a Hoto: 4.55-4.6k
Throw on HoZ: 5.85-5.9k
Throw on Mara's, Shako, Soj(1), Arach, Enigma: 9.65-9.75k
A dash of combat GC's(6) and an Anni: barely under 13k
And this is obviously not the most a hammerdin could do. Add another soj, replace gheeds and the tome of tp by 2 more GC's, take the 2 empty rows I keep for "pickup" space and put another 2 GC's..... And you're probably close to 16k. And I'm sure there are flaws in that setup as well.

Amazing. I guess I'll start a Hammerdin and max some synergies and BH. Thank you, I finally might have a character that can last through hell.

I realize my mistake! I translated 14%=14 points of damage. Stupid me.
Fire Sorc.
Max Meteor.
Max Fire Ball
Max Warmth
some in fire bolt
throw on some + skill gear items (say +5)
and u can do 10k meteor damage and 4k fireball
great until u hit a fire immune.
oh, throw on a Rising sun amulet and u can stand in a field of hydras (being healed at the same time :) and waste hell meph in 30 secs.
